Pretty crazy how much has changed since in 8 years. I believe the Daystate Pulsar was released late 2014? I had the chance to shoot one last year for the first time and it was just as good as any current production rifle. Pretty cool. Now I guess the Delta, Alpha, and Ghost have replaced it in current production. Still, I think the Pulsar was so advanced for its time, it doesn't get the credit it is due. The stock was odd looking 😂 but the bullpup basics haven't really changed from them to now.

I too think the Pulsar was ahead of its time. I have a .177 standard (17-inch barrel) Pulsar that I started calling my Alpha Wolf about two years ago, way before the current AW models. I put a Huma reg in the pressure tube, and replaced the factory board with a HeliBoard, so instead of the pressure vs hammer voltage dwell algorithm as the tube went from 250 bar to 130 bar or so, the gun only needs to be really dialed in at the reg set pressure, in my case 150 bar to achieve 20 FPE for FT. It functions almost exactly as a Delta/Alpha Wolf on Advanced Settings... The gun makes a good little FT gun, much easier to shoot off hand (for me) than my longer rifles... I have it shooting the 10.65 H&N at 915 FPS. Very accurate and consistent, gets over 90 shots per 250 bar fill. I haven't done a test in a long time, but when I set it up initially, I shot 90 shots with an ES of 8 FPS. Can't get much better than that...

Yeah it's shocking how little attention it received I. have a few friends that have them, and just about all of them have referenced how it still hold up with the best of them, a credit to Daystate forsure.

This goes back to 2012 .. where the only Bull Pup around was EDGUN.
There were a few conversions one could get out of europe if wishing to convert a long gun to pup configuration.

Personally took on the challenge and manufactured my own conversion for a gen 1 Marauder. I had dubbed it MUD PUP for "Marauder Unitized Design"

This was made 10 years ago !! & yes we have come a very long way !!

Nice! Seems like a brand specific evolution, or maybe I'm missing something.

The Taipan....I have a lot to say about that, being one of my first real shoots with the platform. I can see the appeal. I also dislike it a bit aesthetically, but holy cow does it shoulder well. Such a nice backyard squirrel killer. You can shoulder it with one hand easily.

I guess it is. I was comparing the Pulsar to the Alpha just for fun and was impressed how far they have come in both form and function. Like I said though, the Pulsar performance is still top notch. I like the aesthetics on the Alpha far better than the Pulsar though.

There's this thread on how much the aesthetics of a gun do influence or do not influence our purchase decision.

Maybe that's why the Pulsar (and the Bobcat) didn’t become as popular....? (Bobcat's little brother, the Wildcat, is on version 3 already....) 🤔

Matthias
Yeah aesthetics do matter to me a lot. I've been thinking about it a lot actually but didn't reply to that thread because I think it's a fireside chat that is hard to reduce to a post. Interesting how car designers will work on a prototype design for 3 years or so in the future, and sometimes it utterly fails to meet consumers' aesthetic desires. PT Cruiser comes to mind (though there are some PT Cruiser people out there shaking their heads I am sure). A lot of times I think airgun manufacturers have to do the same thing when it comes to stocks...take risks and so on. Bullpups stocks seem to have been refined this last couple years. A more affordable brand stock that I think is shaped well is the Benjamin Akela. It has a nice stock. The Alpha I think has the best looking one so far. I guess it is all subjective but there has definitely been refinement at least in my eyes. I have never been a bullpup guy but that is partially because the stocks have traditionally been meh on the aesthetics. I do think @intenseaty22 Taipan grew on me favorably after both seeing it in person and shouldering it. Another than grew on me was the Uragan Compact. It looks odd in photos, but in person it is visually well balanced and just how I would want it.

Well there is my rant. Anyway, yeah bullpup evolution of stocks in some way or another.

I think the look of the gun just didn’t resonate with many people. It came out around the same time as the Impact which had so much press and also had that popular AR15 style so it had a hard time competing I’d think.
