I am new to springers. I received a Weihrauch HW95L two weeks ago and have of course shot it about 400-500 pellets. In the learning curve of the ideal hold for me I’ve experienced some frustration so I start to look at things outside of the operator. It can’t be me right ?
I tried a variety of pellets and then, because I’ve read many threads about dirty barrels on new rifles, I thought I should do a good cleaning. Of course a PCP is relatively easy to clean with a patchworm and aid of a straw at the muzzle. Most every “artillery hold” video you watch advises that you should keep a hand on the barrel and the stock restrained under the arm or some other way while loading.
My question: To me, at home, I would grip the barrel in my protective jaws of my bench vise and proceed, but do you do anything to restrain the stock like when loading pellets ? I can see easily fabricating a strap around the butt and last couple inches of the stock and securing it via rope or nylon strap to an eye bolt under the bench for that just in case scenario, but do springer folks do that ? Or do you just clamp the barrel and proceed with cleaning ?
