Supressor/Moderator question

Impulse Air. We put a pink one on my wife’s Maverick when we turned it into a Compact but stayed with the 480 bottle. Clearance was adequate and IMO it was quieter than the DFL Tatsu that was on it before.
It is now on her M3 which I have dialed up to shoot 24.8 gr slugs. Still very quiet.
You can add to the chamber length as well if desired.

Thanks, just checked them out, real data is a touch hard to get, especially comparisons but...that said, on a RAW they went from 117 down to 97, about what I'd expect. I'm going to get one and a few extra baffles, should be fun.

Thanks for the tip

How did the Impulse Air moderator perform for you. I'm thinking about getting one for my .30 cal Maverick pushing 100 fpe.

Honestly, according to the sound meter, not much 2db or so....it may have removed some of the sharpness, a recurring theme on moderators. From a practical standpoint, I'm behind a 6' fence and VERY tall shrubs, people walking along the street have never commented and where I live they are a bunch of wusses so they'd say SOMETHING. Distance of about 20 yards, with an echo from my house. I did notice that the Donny FL's have a bit of very fine mesh screen in the chambers and that MIGHT soften the impulses a touch. I have a printed Mod coming in to try, cheap enough, will see.

Ok had a chance to do a quick test of the Air Impulse, one printed one from TX, forget the name, just got it , my stock Sebroia and my Donny FL Sumo, hands down the Sumo was the best, in my garage, no pellets, just air. Out of my .22, the printed one was the worst closely followed by the Air Impulse and the stock one. I’ve didn’t have a chance to test the stock FX. It looks like I’m either going to get a smaller bottle or a longer barrel and a Donny.

Honestly… trying a lot of them, they usually don’t sound massively different, at least not enough for me to want to spend $100 more on one versus another. Buy what you like the looks of.
I'm just paranoid about being reported, I'm in a city environment in a less than friendly state, that long one on the Left Coast. I've ordered another Donny FL Kio, it'll add length to my Compact .22 but, I really don't care what it looks like I just need it as quiet as possible.

I just put a Huma M40 on my Air Arms s500. I bout the full 4 chamber version. 30-35fpe, very quiet. With latest phone app, and a couple feet in front as I shoot, it said 72db.

I also have an inexpensive printed mod that I have used on it which reads 78db.
If I shot outdoors without a mod, the same choppers that ran Tank Johnson out of town would be flying over my house.

The only down side with the M40 is it’s big and heavy. $130 more than my printed mod got me 6db.

Totally got what you are saying. I’m just saying that you are very limited on your specs because you want the thinnest possible. I’m saying that I haven’t seen ground breaking differences between mods that are basically the same size, long and skinny. I have owned the Huggett Snipe 1.22” (like the Koi). I liked it a lot, and was a touch quieter to me that some others I tried that were bigger. The Koi is well regarded at the same size, and it would be hard for me to think it could be very different in sound, but it is cheaper. Either go with price or with looks, as I don’t think one or the other is going to be massively different and make the different in whether neighbors here you.

The other piece not mentioned, that determines the quietness way more than the mod is the power/speed you are shooting. Some mods are designed to work with different levels of power (not the two I mentioned). If you really want to get quieter, stay with lighter pellets at slower speeds. For example, my Crown or Impact was significant quieter shooting 18gr at 880 vs shooting 25gr at 940. I honestly think that is where you will find your biggest difference and what will help you the most.

Oh I get what you saying. It is a air volume/velocity thing. I’m running 18gr at about 935 on my compact, 25gr in my .25 At the same speed. The big sumo is much quieter…duh. If I can pop my tank off and tether the .22 I’d put the Sumo on it for giggles.

Thanks for the update, you just saved me a lot of money! 😄

I'm here to serve. As soon as I get my next Donny in I'm going to do a test on all of my moderators. I'm curious as to the difference in Db levels from my iPhone to my state of cheap dB meter, IF it isn't raining or rather nippy, and if I can run tethered without a tank. I'll even try do a low budget video.

Just wanna say I feel your pain. I live just outside Chicago and I'm terrified of people even seeing me with my airguns, which I don't even shoot at home.

Hogkiller, Why don't you have a custom adapter made that will extend the Sumo out far enough to where you can still use your original tank? Donny FL might make something for you or he used to have a name and phone number on his website for someone that did custom work. Not sure if he is still listed there or not but that is another option you have to get it quiet.
Thx
Dan
