paypal is dead to me.

At this point I deleted my account with paypal. I wish not to dwell on their policies, what they may do or not do etc. I prefer to focus on positive changes. So what are my options? Venmo is paypal light, Zelle is a possible answer that I will look into. USPS money orders and Personal checks. I believe I can make it work. Sure, I'll have issues buying stuff on delayed payment plans. I just can't have some entity hanging nefarious possible actions over my head. Someone screwed up there big time, Either the company approved asset seizure as part of their conditions of use to be arbitrarily applied as they see fit or some wingnut in their employ came up with that by mistake and a superior approved it! Either way , I can't accept that level of malice or stupidity.

FWIW
PayPal rescinded that policy

They will never live down their reputation for being among the first to try and sneakily enable a social credit score based financial system in the United States of America. PayPal has been and will continue to seize funds and ban accounts for thought crimes regardless of their public relations walk-back attempt.

i dunno, paypal is super convenient click shopping .. never had a problem .. let somebody get ahold of your credit card info now, then you got real problems, theyll be doing their laundry and everything else with it lol ..
Certainly not the only payment system I use but I’ve never had any trouble with PayPal myself and it has saved me a lot of wasted time down at the bank.

As for the political aspects… nothing to add.
Love Paypal, so convinient and never had a problem.

I never had an issue either, just don't wish to get stung to find out. If you wish to continue with paypal by all means. Everyone is their own person, I'm not trying to convince anyone to change, this was the decision for me, that's all. Hopefully, no one has any serious issues with whoever provides their banking services.

So you never had an issue but decided PayPal is dead to you anyway ?

At some point we the people have to stop supporting companies that do not share our values.

I have never had a problem with paypal either. Paypal is dead to me as well.
Good for you,
every single transaction I had with PayPal ( and I had a ton of them ) has been flawless and zero problems, I don't go read between the lines, if at some point they do something I don't like I'll take action,
as of now I'll not meander in paranoia and political stuff I stick with facts and what they do with my transactions.

I haven't been wronged by Paypal, and I will not give them the opportunity.

A company with a market cap of almost $100,000,000,000 does not publish a detailed policy like this by accident. It was drafted and then reviewed by a multitude of people and then approved to be implemented. The only mistake is that they took it too far too soon and a significant enough portion of their clientele said no.

Stick around, frogs. The water is warm and comfy.

Sigh...

Man, life sure is tough for a lot of people. Then it gets even tougher when people start to make it tough on themselves. (and yes, Businesses do it too...)

Like most people, I have not had a problem with Paypal. Like some people, I do have issues with some of the things they do, or tried to do. However, again like most people, I don't live in a perfect world. If I tried to only do business with people who thought exactly like I did, or who felt about every issue just the way I felt, then I fear I wouldn't do much business at all.

Paypal is super convenient. Using it is, for me, very efficient and very effective. I have not had any trouble with it personally, and honestly, the majority of the time that I see complaints it seems to me that "User Error" is substantially, and sometimes, totally, to blame.

Do I like all of their policies? No. Do I like some of the things they try to do? No. But generally, they respond when the public makes noise and generally they adjust those policies to reflect the negative feedback. I'm not sure what else you would expect from a large corporation that depends on the goodwill of the public/customers to maintain their revenues.

So, they may be dead for some of you, but they're definitely not dead for most people, including most of "us" (whichever particular "us" you may be today). Is it possible that I may pull my business from them because of something they do? Sure. But it's not going to happen for something they screwed up and then rapidly fixed once it became clear to them what a cluster-f**K their new policy was.

And by the way folks, those of you who hate Paypal but like/love Venmo...PayPal OWNS Venmo. And if you think Zelle is super convenient (which it is, for some things), just remember that Zelle has no recourse. None. Nada. Zip. Once you send money via Zelle it is gone. For good, or bad, as the case may be.

As for the comment that big businesses don't do things by accident, well...Wrong. I've been a senior executive of large international businesses for much of my working life and I've seen a boatload of big mistakes. In fact, a big part of my past 15 years I have spent going around the world fixing "mistakes" made by various people who thought they were doing the right thing, except they weren't.

That's correct, Not going to wait for a situation where some "fact checker" thought police deems something I write violates some community standard they set. But the hubris to say initially they would seize MY money from MY account at THEIR discretion is abject BS. They as just a damn banking service. nothing more. In spite of the fact they walked back their claim of financial retribution in the event of "misinformation" as they deem by me, Forget it. They need to be reminded they are supposed to SERVE their cliental, not regulate them. It's a situation I currently can not accept, others are of course free to decide for themselves, I just hope no one gets financially slapped by paypal down the road.

You know that you can use PayPal just as payment drawn directly from your bank right ?

there's no money they can seize that way since no money of yours is actually in their possession.

Looking at that list posted above I see no real crazy stuff but basically common sense and nothing that radical, don't really understand why the panties in a bunch so much.

I did not say big businesses don't do things by accident. I said Paypal did not do this particular thing by accident. A detailed policy with very specific language covering a host of nebulous infractions is not an accident.

That policy but they will and can still freeze any funds in your account for up to 6 months for violating their terms of service. One of which is no firearm sales and I don’t believe they realize air rifles aren’t firearms. Heard of too many people getting squeezed. Just don’t leave money sitting in your account. Transfer it to the bank right away. Really us small buyers and sellers aren’t going to be greatly effected. It’s small businesses that do a lot of transactions and at any given moment may have a lot of funds sitting there that are most vulnerable.

I agree they have horrible politics and practices. I still have an account and I admit it is due to convenience. I commend you for sticking to your principles. I really should do the same on this one as well.
