50 Yd. 177 Challenge

The boards are updated.

Hello again,
Not a problem with me I just wanted to be sure so I did not score wrong. I "scan" my cards with a piece of red cardboard on the back side so the holes show up a bit better, however some times a hole is not real clean. Here is a card that I just shot this morning and it might have to be enlarged to clearly see a couple of the "5's".

It is difficult on some shots to gauge such a small hole on a small target but the way you are doing it is working just fine.

For those wishing to play you really ought to give it a run. It really is a eye opener.

My scores over 11 cards has been

39, 34, 34, 32, 31, 30, 29, 28, 26, 26

The median is 30 with an average of 30.5. The standard deviation is 4 with a skew of 0.83 (score is more likely to be above the mean than below.)

So while I am bettering my score it seems I will not continue to do so consistently. I am close to peaking it seems. However, I remain optimistic!
Yes I've shot a PILE of cards and I feel any score over 30 with a springer is absolutely respectable, after that it starts to become more chance vs skill. Not that PCP doesn't take skill as well, but I think they still fall to chance when getting close to a perfect score.

Conditions were perfect this morning I shot the HW 77 and the HW 80. This is the best I’ve shot with the 80. so on the HW 77 target number two and number nine I score a four and five but you can clearly see paper between the hole and the line. If you zoom in you can see a grease ring touching the line.
Thats awesome shooting. Yes I can see the ring, it's a nice clear card. Gotta love it when the air is still and you're in the zone. I usually only get one or the other but not both at the same time.

I took my Longshot Marksman out to practice with it tonight. I was tired and my back was sore from painting kids rooms today. More of that to come tomorrow! Yeah!

Calm 85°F Humid
Heavy air as just rained

Tx200 Stock
Mueller 40x56mm
AA Field Heavy 10.3 gr
Rock BR
Protekor #1
Score 42 found score error.

For giggles I put up 6 targets and set the scope to center on AA Field Heavy 10.3 grains.

Target 1 was a 36 but did no 0 bulls.
Target 2 was a 34 but no 0 bulls.
Target 3 was a bust. Something jumped or settled. Used it to re center scope.
Target 4 was a 34 but had no 0 bull.
Target 5 was a 38 with one 0 bull.
Target 6. Concentrate. It was a 42 with 0 bulls.

I believe I have the video of this on the Longshot Marksman. So when I figure out if I did it right I will upload it as well. A picture for now.

So I didn't beat the top score but I am 1 point behind it anyway! Yeah TX200.

EDIT: BULL 2 SHOULD HAVE BEEN A 3 NOT 4. CORRECTED HERE. SORRY.

This is my first time doing something like this and a ton of fun! Below is my buddies shooting with my rifle. I'm finding that after filling the rifle, the first shots are all over. Then the rifle settles down. Not sure why this is, I think that the harmonics must change at a certain PSI. I shot first after filling the rifle and my targets were worth squat. My buddy shot and did well. Then there was rain....

So this is your buddy's card? It is board worthy, if he has a profile we could have him join the challenge. If I'm misunderstanding and it's your card just let me know and I can add it to the board.

Hello Drpietrzak,

Don't stop working on improving your skills. I am attaching a pdf copy of a MOA paper Target that I designed for shooting at 50-yards. Print out some of these to shoot at before shooting a competition target. I shot two of these this morning before I started shooting various competition targets. Hope this will help some. Please note that I have a "Scale" in the upper left corner so you can confirm the correct size on a printout.

Thanks. I have MOA targets I use as well.

What do your 50 yards rigs look like? What rests are folks using?
Mine is nothing more than a rolled up towel on top of a bar stool.

Hello @Fixedflinger ,

I shot three targets this morning and offer this Card as an upgrade with a score of 58. Perfect conditions for shooting, cool, low humidity, overcast but zero wind.

Awesome score! Board has been updated.

Hello Drpietrzak,

My benchrest setup is pretty basic. I have a Bag Jack with a Lyman adjustable bag on the front. I have two Caldwell Bags for the rear support. Depending on the rifle and target and target distance, I will use just one rear bag.
