Coworker asked if I could help his mom thin some squirrels in their apple orchard some time. Well there is finally a break in the 100* heat around here and planning on a cool morning this Saturday so fingers crossed the weather holds true. Have my heavy duty tripod ready and will be taking my Prophet compact and taipan standard. I also get to check out the property for long range powder burners as he has been saying we should set up some steel for distance.

Well it was a bust. Super muggy in the woods. We walked 130 acres and saw more deer than squirrels, only one. Ended up busting starlings back at his mom's house that kept landing in an old dead tree over their pasture. Got about 6 at 60 yards. Shooting off a tripod is a game changer. They said come down any time. Now they need to fix the pasture fencing to keep the cows out of the garden. I am ready for cooler temps and less humidity. Now I have to come down and help them around the farm to stay in their good graces.

The first trips are always iffy, once you get the lay of the place, you have much better subsequent visits... I'm heading out for rats tonight... Keeping my expectations low... But hoping for some shot opportunities.

Have to help another buddy who owns a haunted house park since he started seeing rats running around while working on the place. Different buddy has an ATN night vision scope he said I can try. Think that will help a bit with the rats.
