Kit for Ranger XR

Hi all,

The Brocock Ranger XR should be arriving Wednesday. I got a Westhunter 3-12x44 IR FFP and medium rings ready to mount on the Ranger. I also have a Magpul 45 degree QD sling mount on the way to mount to the rail on the bottom of the chassis, so I can use a two-point adjustable sling.

I would like to get a bipod, and can get a good price on UTG products. I am looking at the Recon 360 TL series. I like that the legs can be set forward at an angle to get the pivot point farther forward. They make a 5.5-7", a 7-9", and a 8-12" version. I initially was thinking of going for the middle height 7-9" one, so I could use it with the legs shortened and at an angle off a bench, and have the option to use it with the legs longer and straight up if I need a taller shooting rest. But then was thinking that the rail on the bottom of the chassis is pretty far below the barrel bore, so maybe the shorter 5.5-7" one would be better.

Anyone have any advice re: bipod height for the Ranger?

@l-leon and @Blackpaw very interested in your thoughts.

Thanks

@L.Leon I forgot you have an Atomic. I will make a report on the Ranger, after I get some trigger time. Also will have to report on the Westhunter, seems like one of the few lower power compact FFP scopes with an illuminated reticle. What height rings are you using with the WH on your Atomic.

@Blackpaw Ack! Do you know who stole it or at least where it happened to avoid that again?

@Ghostranger169 I have been thinking an adjustable forend might be useful for offhand and other field position shots this squirrel season. What brand is yours?

puddleglum,

I think there are better quality ones out there, but they were hard for me to find. This one has a kinda cheap, angled plastic picatinny attachment, but functions(changes positions and locks in place) well, is light, and was less than $20 so...
