HW50s with Diopter sight

I just mounted an Anschutz Diopter sight that I picked up from Bear-of-Grayling and all I can say is, wow! Not only does it look great, but functions perfectly too. Now all I need is a custom stock from Custom Stocks Ltd. and I'll be all set.

Baranjhn,
Few questions on the sight if I can. Is that an adjustable iris? About what ballpark do one of those sights cost?
I have a HW30S and was considering getting the Williams FP-AG-TK sight based off what everyone recommends. But being me, I know I’d also end up wanting to collect different inserts for different shooting scenarios. If yours is adjustable, does it take care of that, more or less?
And - last question for now - how does your sight compare to a scope? I was also thinking of the UTG Bug Buster 3-9 or 3-12.

jbuchse17 - The iris is not adjustable. This is a vintage sight, so prices can be all over the map. However, there are new diopter available at Pyramydair start at a bit over $100.

Comparing to a scope? I'm not sure you can but here's what I like about it over a scope. It doesn't add any noticeable weight, it looks good, and it does promote better accuracy (over the barrel mounted rear sight).

I have a 3-12 Bugbuster that I use on a different airgun and it's a decent scope in it's price point. If I needed another similar scope, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

Your HW50 looks great. It will be a total classic with a custom stock. What stock model from Custom Stocks are you going to put on your 50? Here is some information to read before ordering from them. https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/tips-before-ordering-a-custom-stock-ltd.1188670/

Really cannot compare a diopter to a scope, as mentioned. The scopes main advantage is magnifacation. However, that advantage comes with many trade-offs. I really love my scopes but not on all my guns. I have as many peep sights as scopes. If I can see the target clearly trough a peep sight, I will out shoot my scoped rifles. That’s me. I’ve always enjoyed the ease, weight, look and enjoyment of a good shot through a peep sight. Room for both in any collection.

I’ll probably get the CS500 as long as it’s not much bigger/heavier than the current Weihrauch stock.
The CS500 is a beautiful stock. I have 2 of them. They are definitely for scoped rifles, however. Can’t get a good “comfortable” sight image through a diopter with the 500. That’s why I got a CS600 for my HW95. I think the 600 Tyrolean and your Anschutz diopter would be very nice. Like the original HW55 Tyrolean.
The 500/600 is a touch larger than the factory Beech stock. The Walnut is a bit softer and needs the extra meat. Plus the Beech stock has no extended comb. The weight is comparable though, depending on wood density. The extra size is actually better for most Han the factory stock.

I just ordered an adjustable Gehmann iris from lostnationrd.com for $55 I have several on some Anschutz diopters, and Gehmann does make one with a smaller shaft that will fit one of the Willams diopter sights.

Your Anschutz sight is a model 6700, an earlier type. With the longer base than the later 6702, you can seat the iris further back on the receiver dovetail. Also, the iris that you have mounted is designed to accept a eye shield to block out your left eye. The windage adjustment on the 6700 is not clickable as on the 6702 so may require a bit more fiddling, but is extremely sensitive? Nice airgun!
