Reviewed a couple thermal scanners

I got the chance to view a new brand of thermal last night. Thermtec, I got to see the cyclops d 640 and their 335 units along side a pulsar telos.

Cyclops 640D pro
I’m just going to say the FOV on the 640D is massive on the 20mm (1.1x)setting. Being able to swap to the 40mm (2.2x)setting which does not half your resolution is a good setup on a scanner. It’s an optical zoom so at 1.1 or 2.2 it is 640, I know it’s not the only brand to do this. We were watching deer out to 600 yards. One major plus on this units is the menu layout and all the adjustments(sharpness, contrast, brightness and hue adjustments) The internal screen is pretty good size and distanced right so the eye piece doesn’t cut it off. It has 2 18650 and I was told it could be sent to the service center to be swapped. They have a 3 year warranty and were designed by a guy that actually hunts and has been in the industry for quite a while.

Cyclops 335
This scanner immediately surprised me with the image quality from a 384 resolution unit. I honestly would put it up with some of the lower end 640 units. It has a 3.3x base power, and zoom on it will be digital. It might be the Best Buy in its price range,we still watched deer at 600 yards. It lacks a few features the 640D has but it is also a lot cheaper.

Both have several color palettes, the red hot was one of the best red hot I’ve seen. It really differentiated the animal from the back/foreground. The controls are easy to use and find in the dark so you don’t hit the wrong thing. It uses a joystick in the center with a button on each side. I think it will be easy even with gloves. Both have a focus up front and a diopter to make the screen and image clearer. Now both have an AI range finder, we checked it against a LRF and it was close. We did not try the AI past 250yards but when it was on it constantly showed distance to the deer. I honestly don’t know how it works but I will hopefully get to mess with one again. The phone app ran very smooth and might beat out the infiray app as being one of the best I’ve seen.

Telos
The telos was impressive but it didn’t stand head and shoulders above the others. The control layout will be tougher especially with gloves. The image was good, the zoom has been moved up front( all digital) by the focus. The menus and settings are a lot different from my helion2, I honestly struggled with them a bit. I think if I took the time to relearn all the new menus I would be good. The original stream vision app was ok, hopefully the new stream vision 2 will be better. This unit uses a proprietary pulsar battery but the user can replace it or carry 2. It does come in a LRF model which I’m hoping to checkout next.

I’m hoping to get to look at more products/ brands but so far these have been my favorites.
My helion 2 was fantastic it has gone to my dad so I’m on the hunt for a new scanner.

I got to see these at night vision specialists, the owner is a pretty good guy. His site is www.nightvisionspecialists.com

These are just my opinions and observations, everyone’s eyes are different.

N/A  Range Change

The shanty takes about five minutes to setup and take down. It is only a foot wide and half a sheet of plywood long when folded up. I will take more pics this weekend.

We also use an "indoor rated" propane heater to avoid carbon monoxide.

I’d be interested.
‘Be careful with any plug in electric heater in your house. If that heater causes a fire you have NO insurance. It’s written in small print on the bottom of your policy. Crow

Theoben  New scope for the "new" Sirocco

Only thing is my later Sirocco Deluxe doesn't have to come out of the stock to pump up. Don't dare try cocking one out of the stock. NO! NO! You dare not do that. I could make an air inlet extension and a delrin cover.
BTW this one's my .22 with the trigger guard off for adjusting.

Western Airguns  Loose pieces on rattler 357

You beat me to the punch line, lol.

I guess see if you can figure how they go on or come off, and either bend them, dare I say, to fit tighter, or shim them one way or another.

Maybe it's a feature. Or compliment to the namesake. :ROFLMAO:
I used a couple small pieces of a shotgun shell wad plastic as a shim. It is rock solid now lol, good idea!

What Happened toDaystate Sportsman MKII (multi pump)

Hi Bob,

Yep it was a neat gun and super cool back in that era with the high gloss blueing and sexy walnut stock! Man just think, that was around a 1/4 century ago! That was about all I pumped it was 3 times after the novelty of the power wore off.

It was the one which steered me back to airguns again(thanks to Robert Buchanan) and to the sport of FT as well as meeting you and our other FT friends.

Wasn't but a 3-4 months afterwards I took it down to Robert and traded it in towards a Daystate Harrier pcp. Man I've spent a wheel barrel full of $10 bills over the years in airguns and equipment since then.
Hay speaken of Robert Buchanan"it was over 20 years i brought a HW100 front fill from him"i said do ya give senior discounts? ya ill took off $200 bucks" it was a lot of money then i still have it.I hope he still kicken?
