I’m guessing you’re from the UK based on the sub12 guns and I’m thinking that this might be a bit of a cultural misunderstanding. Most older American shooters grew up around multi-pump pneumatics, so when we think of old school traditional air rifles we’re thinking of Benjamins, Sheridans and Crosmans. Spring piston airguns over here only became common in the late 80s or early 90s. We always had spring piston BB guns, but proper spring piston air rifles were only sold through a couple of small mail order companies.sorry ,i was thinking of the OP's statement .
