No doubt here! PCP, SSP, MSP, Springer, ...do them all - regularly!

I've collected a variety of airguns for specific applications but have a preference for PCPs, guess that comes from my powder burner days.

I thoroughly enjoy plinking with my R7 and the FWB 124 is still my favorite walkabout rifle but, IMHO, a 30fpe .22 caliber PCP is the best all around versatile airgun for plinking, pesting, target shooting and small game hunting.

I can say, whilst tuning mine, I was able break the poppet because I didn't set up a chrony before messing with it. Not a big deal to fix, if you have a replacement. But the noise will bring all the dogs!

It can be hard to tell if a spring is broken. Depending on where a spring breaks you may have slack once the barrel breaks. They usually break a few coils up from the trigger end and that usually leaves enough preload not to get that slack. Another indication is a crunch noise towards the end of the cocking stroke. Broken Weihrauch springs are pretty common when shot regularly. It can be hard to tell if they're broke without a chronograph and records keeping. Typically a rifle will start grouping poorly and have wider extreme spreads in velocity. I've taken apart rifles that were operating relatively well with broken that had no noticeable indication of a broken spring.

A 50 is a buzzy rifle without a kit. A beautiful rifle with one. It might be worth having a kit and piston seal put in even if the spring is fine.

Last time I was at Kelly's he was putting a regulator in a pistol, and he showed me the gk1 internal differences - its so small of a difference, I am sure you could run a k1 without a reg.

The 3 most common ways to fill a PCP airgun are:

From a hand pump
From a SCBA or Carbon Fiber tank (that has been filled at either a: Scuba shop, Air Pro shop, Fire Dept, or from a personal HPA compressor)
Directly from a HPA compressor

Thank you all for your suggestions. Please understand that I am not a new shooter.
I have a couple of of "entry level" springers and have learned them out to 50 yds or so.
Shooting hi-power centerfire for as long as I have has translated pretty well to the airgun for me.
I just need to practice the terminology/technique (e.g., the artillery hold - yeah try that with a centerfire!)

From what I've seen and learned online, the Weihrauch 97 has a lot of appeal and is not out of reach financially.

Mounted the included scope, it was interesting that it would be shooting a group say down 3" and to the left 3" and then grouping to the right and up, also didn't seem like the 1/8" clicks translated very well to what you saw on paper. Read a post that suggested sighting in at 20 yards and then at 40 yards you would also be on target based on pellet rise and fall... did not find that to be the case. So I sighted it at 40 yards and the first dot above center seemed to be right on at 20 yards.

Using the H&N Field Target Trophy, 14.66 gr that AZ suggested, is there better pellet for the HW95?

Probably new gun teething pains .. the more you shoot it the more it settles in on spring / seal along with maintaining stock screw , hing bolt tightness, adjustment. .. pretty typical hw stuff .

I'd shoot it on its irons for a 1000 or 2 as it's setting in , helps take some of that off a scope .. you'd probably see it as accurate on irons as with a scope .

Matter of fact I like mine on irons more the scoped ... A easy to see bulls at 50y is a 2/ 2-1/2" circle using 6 o'clock hold. Snuff / bean , pellet can lids are my fave all around bulls ..lol
