Crosman 1720 and Zan slugs < 12FPE

I‘ve finally dipped toes in the murky waters of airgun slugs. Been reading lots, doing my research, evaluating reviews (taking most with a grain of salt). I’m not shooting 100 yards or making big power but I am constantly fighting the wind in my back yard range and want to see if the slugs will shrink my groups.
Also wanted the litest possible slug since they are said to shoot slower. Fortunately options are only a little more limited than finding a quality .20 cal pellet and I opted for Zan 10gr slugs.

Adding a pic of my 1rst go round with these tiny pills. Shot over the chrony while sighting in and very surprised to only see a 10-15fps difference! Decided to relocate the chrony to verify fps at the target but was falling off the reg by then so 10.5s peeked at last shot and Zan slugs shot progressively slower from 660s fps to 650 fps.

Interesting too, besides NOT slowing down appreciably, notice the slugs are cutting a much cleaner hole in the target.

As soon as weather permits I’ll be stretching things out in the back yard.

RAW TM1000 Rifle/ Pistol Twins

@Kerndtc - Your Parallax wheel designs are interesting to say the least.
Sharing a picture of what i'm doing to my TM1000 pistoli.
Notice the modified eccentric mag wheel top of pic...
it's going on my TM 1000 pistol's S-Tac 4-20x50, this weekend and allows me to reach over and grip the scope from the top for my standers and perhaps kneelers. The rings you see are designed to slip over the eccentric wheels before a match starts - they are calibrated, or will be (set up) in different temperature ranges depending on expected weather conditions to accommodate the much dreaded and anticipated temp shift. The blue things are keys that allow the IR function to be easily turned on or off. @Scope-Werks

Very creative! An awesome idea.

My wheel design is like most of the things I do, effective and simple. The fanciest things that are on my gun are things I had to buy.

When I setup probably 20+ scopes a year with wheels I'd probably cut into my airgun budget with the cost of buying those beautiful wheels you have. When I was first learning how to design in cad I wound up favoring the hatchet design so I could have all the further yardages very easily visible and all at near max radius. The equivalent diameter on mine would be roughly 8", light weight and inexpensive once I had the printers and design set.

I need to build a temperature chamber for testing scopes. It wouldn't be very difficult, and I have all the necessary tools and equipment. It would be very beneficial for me to try something like that on my main scopes.

Anschutz  German tunnel front sights

I'm sure there is a way to do that, but I don't know what it is! I have no experience with bubble levels.

If you just need a horizontal reference, I believe Anschutz makes inserts simiar to the one in this photo, that have scribed lines on them. But note their inserts have a recessed edge, and snap into a special slotted sleeve (lower left in the photo). The standard solid sleeve for metal inserts (upper left won't center them up.

The old Slimline inserts above work a little differently - they have a solid edge and are a little bigger in diameter (same diameter as the sleeve thread) and are not brand specific. You can simply drop them into any M18 sight. But they are hard to find these days.

AF 457 first hog down

Use to hunt Hagerman for deer years ago. Simple process back then just
mail in card. If you killed a doe " had to be perfect shot" they would issue you a golden ticket and you did not need to draw for next year just register and hunt. Now since the state took over too much on line confusing crap, that I can't do. Had a ticket for last year but didn't bother going back probably never will again. If you ever draw for deer in big mineral or the Harris units contact me and I will give you some good spots. Congrats on drawing and harvesting two hogs they will love you for that.

Barrel Band

In my experience, barrel bands are likely to produce point of impact problems unless they are very secure. I have gotten used to the barrel sticking out unsecured after barrel band application caused my shots to be off.
Thinks for your input it's looking more & more like a personal thing and not really needed.

This is a great shooting gun. Loves jsb 34gr pellets, 26.8gr NSA slugs and 33gr varmint knockers. Those are the only slugs I’ve tried so far. Currently tuned for shooting the jsb 34gr pellets at 885-890 fps, laser accurate at 100 yards. Has been upgraded to a Huma reg, no creep issues. Only looking to trade for an impact M3 in .22 or .25 cal, may consist a mk2, or possibly a panthera/dynamic. Comes with 1 factory mag and 2 carm mags. Scope, rings and moderator not included but can be discussed depending on the trade.

Diana  Diana 48 .177 ft. lbs. of energy?

Hey Deadeye Dick,
How did your pellet testing go in your D48?
Did you find a pellet it likes?

I ended up getting that D52. She is old, but I absolutely love her.
I tried putting a scope on her and was struggeling to get it right, took the scope off just to do some plinking with the open sights and oh my gosh… old iron sights and I was knocking rabbits over at 30yards!
Decided I’m ever going to put a scope on that lovely rifle, I’ll shoot her with her iron sights all day long. So much fun!
She has apparently been tuned down a little to just under 12FPE in .177, but I don’t care at all, she shoots so beautifully exactly as she is 👌🏻
I have had the 48, 52, and 54 all in 22 caliber. I didn't care for the stock on the 52 but the 48 was perfect. I found out also that apertures worked best for me on the 48 and that is the way I shot it. Absolute cannon. The 54 is something else. The sled system it uses keeps it recoiless and it works great with a scope, if you can find a scope that will hold up.

Shooting Apolos in a huben k1

Got my Apolo 25 cal 33gr pellets, 33gr and 40gr slugs today. A quick shooting session with a poor rest at 25 and 85 yards. Pellets shot ragged one hole groups with one being really tight and the other still a ragged hole. They aren’t quite as accurate as JSB but good enough that I ordered more pellets at 5 cents a shot and 40gr slugs at 6 cents a shot.

The slugs weren’t bad and held their own at 85 yards and 100 yards (another session) in breezy conditions. Gun is setup for pellets so I wasn’t expecting much but they are plenty good enough for pigeons out to 100 yards but I won’t be taking head shots. The only thing I changed on the gun is the hammer spring going from an 8 with 24gr pellets to 12 for the 33 grain pellets and 16 for the slugs. I haven’t chronographed them yet…

I think the slugs could be made to shoot better but I shoot pellets more than slugs so I won’t be changing it, for now anyways.

New Corbin Site

@IndyDurtdigger which nose profile do you seek? The selection here is based on the standard spitzer 2S. https://www.corbins.com/shop/s-press-pcp-airgun-slug-die-set-1004?category=15#attr=654,663,660

I think it would serve you well to send them an email to ask about a different ogive. You’d likely have to send sample slugs in to get the die you’d like.
I'm good. Absolutely okay with what they sent me. I had originally ordered a flat base with solid nose to duplicate an NSA slug I was shooting and can't find anymore of. What I got is quite an upgrade. I can do hollow ogive which is what I made or solid ogive with hollow point and both base punches are dish base.
In one rainy day I went from disgruntled too pleased then discovered that the new owners that I didn't even know about effectively upgraded my order. I'll give them another chance and should probably find those other posts and edit them with the new info. Don't wish to spread bad word of mouth if appears they don't deserve.
