Warning: Xtreme slugs

Think I have bought twice from him with no problems. Was this the guy ??

These .357 slugs are good and shoot pretty well from my AEA big 9. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Crosman  Thought id share my 1966 Powermaster 760

I have two with the plastic furniture. One is my brother’s old gun from the 70’s and the other came from a friend. Both were rebuilt and for some reason my brother’s won’t shoot pellets, can’t figure out why. An American classic absolutely.

Rick H.

There are a couple of Gamo pellets that my (three) guns won't chamber. They hang up when you try to close the bolt. I don't know why. Other pellets work just fine.

Here's a pic of my younger brother's 760. It's a mix and match of standard and XL parts. I remember refinishing the wood and making the bolt knob back in '82.

FX  New Huma Air second reg Gen 3 problem (FX Impact M3)

I compared the piston length on huma and it's exactly the same as original from FX. I got extra hight pressure huma, the spring stack on those is: )()()()(

View attachment 450557
On Huma's website, the Extra High pressure starts at ~135. So if you plan on going lower than that 150 mark you need the low pressure.

" Game Changer "

I'd have to say that the mil-dot reticle was a game changer for me. That and other advances made in optics since the eighties.

Being able to measure a target, then calculate range with appropriate hold-over is pretty big in my book.

Cheers,

J~
Optics in general have improved radically over the past 40 years. The mil-dot is a huge improvement, but so is the range of focal adjustment. There are scopes out there now with a 10x range. Christmas tree reticles, illuminated reticles, 30mm and 34mm tubes, target turrets, zero stops, FFP and SFP, the list just goes on and on. Also the quality of mounts. I remember trying and failing repeatedly to get the cheap dovetail mounts we had back in the 80's to stay put.

FX  impact m3 fine tuning

not new to tuning pcp but new to tuning with the valve adjuster. i'm shooting 30 cal hybrid slugs in 600mm barrel.
wondering if there is consensus on fine tuning with hammer spring or valve? what i mean:
- i'm looking for 950-960 fps per fx rec on the hybrids
- start off with heavy hammer spring and valve wide open
- increase reg to get to around 1015 fps
- reduce hammer spring to around 965 fps (about 5% off plateau)
- increase valve till fps just starts to drop which puts me right around mid 950's

question 1 - if i want to start playing with velocity to get best accuracy (say go btw 930-970 in 10fps increments) should i adjust hammer spring or valve?
question 2 - once i find the best accuracy - lets say its low at around 930, i would probably redo the above steps to have lower reg pressure to bring the plateau down around 980-990 so i could tune 5% off plateau and be right at 930 - does that sound right?

thanks

Altaros booster pump

I'd say that is about like the third example in the Altaros information - so about 10 minutes of continuous run time to top off most guns and probably over 90 minutes to top off 45 minute tank with 100 bar of air (and longer for bigger tanks).

Obviously it would work, but how well that is up to you. And how long it lasts doing it is a function of its age and condition to date.

I do think these booster pumps are a great way to go, but we have to be realistic on our expectations based on what we are using to drive them.
Yeah I think it's worth it to me I have a yong Heng I would gladly wait 90 minutes to top it off instead of having to rebuild a Chinese compressor every year

.25 heavy slug twist

I wanted to know from those shooting heavy. 25 slugs what is the twist used .I want to have a tj made for my AF.. that all could benefit since I have to had the tooling made.. I also since I'm already having tooling made I want to make one in .177
So for .25 is 1-15.5 .. or 1-16 ..?
For .177 .. should we try 1-8 or 1-9 .. 1-9 is the twist used to shoot 26gr cast slugs in .172 .. I really don't see my self buying many more guns but .. I could have plenty of different barrels to play with my AF guns.
To add to this, my vulcan 3 has a 1:17.7 twist 700mm barrel in .25 and shoot 36gr slugs and up really well. Like up to 46gr H&N cause I haven't tested heavier slugs

Tuning  What's your most accurate setup?

Curious to hear about your most accurate big bore setup. How tight are the groups and what efforts, adjustments, and testing were required to get there? Any tips or tricks for improving accuracy? Any tips for what NOT to do?
The only things I have physically done,1 polished the barrel and 2, take some off the lead to the trigger and polished it so there is no creep. No 2 barrels are the same so you have to slug the barrel,
  1. How to Slug a Barrel:
    • Choose a soft, lead slug slightly larger than the bore diameter.
    • Lubricate the slug (e.g., with oil or bore paste).
    • Insert it into the chamber and gently tap it through the barrel using a cleaning rod.
    • Observe the impressions left on the slug.
Remember, slugging provides valuable insights into your barrel’s rifling, ensuring optimal performance and accuracy. Need a chronograph, once i get 3 shots on paper(providing you have zeroed) at 100 yards, I just keep Lessing the psi until the group starts to tightens up, having an external regulator with a gauge so you know what pressure you have as you lesson the psi for the slug. 98% of the time i shoot and hunt tethered. Last but not least, breathing pattern. That day when i had 3 shots in one hole, there was no wind and i have not able to repeat it,lol,, I'm happy with 3 slugs in a 2-inch group at 100 yard for a hunting pcp big bore.

Epic  Epic airguns made by Taipan?

That would make sense, keep the solid Taipan ( I think they should have stayed with the original full stop )

Then come out with a separate line with different name and features but the same build quality.
I agree they should have kept the original as an option still.

Interesting to know they are behind the Epic Airguns also. Don't think it's quite living up to hype yet, definitely having issues compared to the Taipan line which is basically nonexistent

Other  I get it now

a Diana model 6 and a Tempest, 2 pistol on the opposite end of the felt recoil spectrum
and yes the Indian or Diana B9N or B9S has bad sights and the trigger is so-so at best and the loading is a pain and it is too bad it is a very nice pistol
i have tried to figure out how to replace the rear sight for years, i even bought an SeeAll sight to mount on the barrel but that did not work out or i gave up
that Diana or see it a Beeman 6GS is a bit of a rare pistol if it so marked
Yes sir they are complete opposite. I find the tempest more enjoyable to shoot than an HW45 though. Then again this tempest had 50 years to break in where as the hw45 I shot was fairly new and not tuned.
I didn’t find the Indian hard to load. The cocking is ridiculously easy for the power it puts out.
What do you mean by “if it is so marked”? Is there some special markings to look for?
