.22 VS .25 Slugs, What's your choice and why?! The Ultimate Poll

Shooting .25 cal because that's what I have. One rifle likes slugs and pellets (veteran2), the other one likes pellets(condor). NSA has a deal going on until the end of June that makes shooting slugs cheaper than shooting jsb 34gns. I shoot quite a bit so I stocked up on slugs. If the pellets were cheaper that's what I'd be stock piling and shooting.

Crosman  Crosman Hahn M-166 Repeater

They are a awesome little rifles, The kids of the time, with the super bb repeater and a year later with the Hahn 45 single six bb pistol, all boys and girls could emulate their favorite TV and movie heroes. Western's dominated them. With shows like Gunsmoke, The Rifleman and Bonanza to name a few. These guns were great success. I enjoy shooting the rifle alot. Perfect popping tin cans around. And let's not forget the Crosman 99 .22 another innovative rifle.

FX  tuned to perfection.

" I haven't experienced the poi shift I have read about." And you won't. I'm not going to say it doesn't exist but....there are generally reasons. My guys were just 'laying' around, I grab them by the scope, the barrels, and even occasionally the stocks, go out and start poking holes in paper 30 yards, mostly where I'm pointing. i think you can tighten up your groups, my gut is telling me your parallax is off a touch, may want to check your torque on your scope mount too.
I appreciate the advice. Thanks

Crossman 2100 vs wasp

I was going to try rock salt in my cheap Walmart Crossman 760 however was worried about the salt getting into the action. Do you do any cleaning after you shoot the sugar????? I was thinking I could stuff a wax paper wad first down the barrel. I want to snipe at carpenter bees and wasps. Any hints readers????
I would not use salt just to prevent rust. I never had any problems with the sugar. I never needed to clean it out afterward. All the sugar just seemed to get blasted out with the shot. I do have a Bug-A-Salt now though and it is lots of fun too.

Umarex  New Notos, leaving it pressurized ?

It's find to leave your pcp charged up. It's actually bad to leave it empty. I leave mine filled to 250 bar and stored for months up to a year with no problem. If it's not holding air then there is a leak. Use leak detector spray and find it. Easy to fix once you find the leak. Usually it's just clean and replace o ring.

Traditional Rifle  SOLD Daisy 99 with upgraded sight

Originally purchased from Dennis Baker. Has both the original peep sight and the installed upgraded Daisy peep sight (believe it is the same one on the Daisy 499). Chrono showed 257 fps so shooting over specs. Blemishes on metal. Stock in good shape but has some small marks on the forearm and stock but the top end the stock butt plate looks like some wood was chipped or rubbed off (see picture). Fun basement gun. Selling because I bought a Daisy 499 which is bigger and does same thing as Daisy 99 and then use the money towards a a Benjamin. Note Dennis Baker has another good one for sale at 149.99 plus 35.95 = 185.94 shipping to my house but it does not have the upgraded peep sight. I am selling mine for $110 shipped to lower 48 states except where illegal in states and cities or they require shipment to a FFL. Will take USPS money orders. If buyer is an established member of this website, I will take personal check if I am satisified they are legit. If the bank has a branch in Metro Atlanta where I can cash the check I will ship immediately. I live in Northwest Metro Alanta if a pickup is possible.

XFT scope zero?

My far zero is about 30y. 25-35 are all pretty much the same. But that's less important than knowing your dope very well.

XFT where we do it involves needing to know how to hit any distance between 20 and 105, so I would prioritize working out drops for a variety of ranges. Some pellets follow the ballistic calculations very closely, others not so much. So getting real-world dope at as many yardages as possible is best.

As I have mentioned several times, the wind is a fundamental aspect and it is also very important whether we are talking about the group or the hit the target same size as the group. Making a groups is much easier than hitting targets of the same size as a group.

I will put here some data and simple overview. Used .22 JSB 18.1 grain, wind size 1km/h (abou 0.6 mph) wind direction from 6 or 9 hours, ie full wind G1 0.041.
The column Drift (mRad) shows what side deviation in mRad this wind is made. Since you have only half a target on one side, so when requesting 1 MOA accuracy = 0.3mRad, the number in the column must be less than 0.15 MRad (half MOA).
1715862087141.png

From the table it is seen that for accuracy of 1 MOA at a maximum error on the wind 1km/h can be fired at a distance of 70m.
For 1.5 MOA up to about 110m.

In practice, of course, the wind can also blow at a different angle of than 90 degrees and will not have the maximum effect.
But this shows perfectly what I try to say here. If you want to know what your system is capable of (Airgun, Pellets / Slugs) then you must first start based on physical data. In reality it will always be worse on average

I say on average, as there may be times when the wind is almost constant, or you are lucky to the perfect estimate of the wind at the moment. Therefore, I not say that someone could not shoot sometimes a amazing result, but that's just luck, nothing more.

Although I wrote that it is not a comparison, so just little info: top .22 slugs will have at the same conditions, for the required accuracy 1 MOA, can be fired at a distance of 480m vs 70m for pellets.
