Invicta first match of the year!!

Well, the weather forecast, or perhaps the weather and the thought of a work party afterwards scared off all but the brave, or silly, not sure which, anyway three shooters made it out to play. I did hear from a few that couldn't make it due to illness, and for those, I wish a speedy recovery! It rained before the match, it rained after the match, and well, it did sprinkle just a bit a couple of times during the match, but nothing that stopped us from shaking off the dust and really having some serious FT fun! The wind was gusty, and did make it slightly less fun, but still fun!

We have our next match in two weeks, as we didn't have a work party this time, so we will have one next time.

Strangely enough, there was a tie, but we both agreed we both won.... See you in a couple of weeks,

Events  Ultimate Field Target @ Phoenix Rod and Gun Club. Sat, March 30 2024

From Franklink's post.
"The rim fire only match is intriguing, but as you alluded to, there'd need to be a lot of sharing. I'd be real interested to see some of the dedicated rimfires guys (PRS/NRL types) come shoot a UFT match to see how they fare."

I invited some of them but nothing came of it.
Mike S was pretty good at NRL22 and we saw how well he did in UFT with his Vudoo 22rf so I think the scores of some of the better PRS shooters would be very high in spite of their inexperience in UFT.

There were a few 22rf shooters that came to UFT and they were sqauded with me. Both didn't quite have their dope down perfectly and weren't shooters I'd think could place high in NRL22. Their scores in UFT were mid roster. One came back twice and did a tad better the 2nd time but never came back. My impression was that they were totally amazed at the scores the airguns were capable of!

Pulsar thermion 2 LRF on a Texan .50?

I shoot my Texan 50 night setup 3 years with good results... First thing you need a external regulator. After that any of the Automatic range compensation day or night scope will work.... I use a Cold shot adjustable base with a Sightmark Wraith HD and a cheap night rangefinder. I manually adjust for elevation... 144 mil day or night.. Not bad....

Daisy  1981 Daisy 880 epoxy barrel?

I've used epoxy to secure the actual straw barrel within the false outer barrel before. Also have used pure silicone caulk as a less permanent barrel stabilizer, but prefer the tape mod or epoxy...

The way I used epoxy was to start with doing the "tape mod", basically wrapping the inner barrel with tape until it fit snuggly within the outer barrel, around the halfway point to three quarters up the barrel. Then install the outer barrel, with the front sight removed. Using a two part epoxy that comes in a syringe type dispenser, apply the epoxy from the open end of the false barrel (stick the syringe in between the actual barrel and outer false barrel). Leave room to reinstall the front sight again without dipping into the epoxy and leave the gun muzzle up as the epoxy cures. As a precaution, it's a good idea to tape up the muzzle of the actual barrel to keep epoxy out. Also, giving the interior of the false barrel a good swabbing with an oiled cloth will help release the false barrel if or when you plan to disassemble again, the epoxy will bond to the inner barrel for a permanent/fitted barrel stabilizer.

Edited in:

Personally, I'd try just wrapping the inner barrel with electrical tape until it fits tight within the outer shroud, especially since you have a vintage 880. It takes a little trial and error but is not a difficult process. If possible, wrap near the muzzle end but leave room for the sight. Also, some years of the 880 came with a smooth bore, I believe. If memory serves correctly there was an 880 (smooth bore) and 881 (rifled) during this period, but I'm not certain as to when this was. If the front sight holds the straw barrel snuggly in place you might find little to no benefit in the tape mod or an epoxy stabilizer. If this is the case, acquiring a new barrel might be a solution if you find poor accuracy, won't help for shooting too high. I don't know if new barrels from Daisy will be a drop-in replacement or not.

Other  KWC M712 rear sight

Once I added the shoulder stock to the M712, the rear sight became more than just an ornament. The whole package can be surprisingly accurate. Trouble is the sight hinge is way too loose and reduces the windage to guesswork. The pics show just how loose with a pin drift.
Pin is loose in the actual sight, but still fairly tight through the holes in the slide.

The fix ...
1) Tap out the pin holding the sight. Pin is knurled and must come out the left side
2) Remove the sight and fill the hole with epoxy (just the hole in the sight, not the holes in the slide!)
3) Re-drill the hole (0.076" dia)
4) Tap the pin back in

The pin measured 0.077", and will be a light tap fit through the sight.
Note that there is still no provision for windage, but the rear sight notch is easy enough to cut or file oversized.
Then you can attach (drill & tap) a small notched plate to the back of the sight which can be moved around.
