Sheridan  Calling all pumper experts

I thought that most Sheridan's max pumps per the manufacture's manual was 8 pumps? That's what I recall from when I was a kid/teen....LONG
According to the Sheridan Bluestreak and Silverstreak manual in section 3, pumping your airgun, it says: "[...snip...]at least three, but no more than eight."

The Crosman 362 and 2023 also need only eight.

I always read the manual when I get a new airgun, yet for some reason, I was -certain- the Benjamin synthetic stocked versions needed ten pumps for full power, so I scrounged up the manual that was provided with my 392s in 2020, which applies to both the .177 & .22 caliber "s" versions, as well as the later renamed Benjamin Variable Pump air rifles from 2016 on, and discovered the manual is UNCHANGED in that regard, still stating "at least 3, but no more than 8" pumps. Sonuvagun!!! I almost never used more than eight pumps in my own 392s and 397s rifles, but I have put in ten tough pumps often enough, especially considering it's actually supposed to be verboten! I would swear I've seen copies of small game FPE charts with the energy for everything from three to ten pumps listed for various animals using the Benjamin rifles, or reading online articles by 'experts' using ten pumps for various things, as well as many online discussions in which users talked about full power needing ten pumps, and everyone in all of them 100% wrong, ME included! No WONDER it was so tough getting past eight pumps with those two air rifles! One thing I can remember quite clearly from those charts though, was the very small, basically insignificant benefit in FPS and FPE from any more than eight pumps, which is why I almost never used more, regardless of the circumstances. Thanks Revoman, for setting me straight. Also, my apologies go out to the OP and everyone else for the bad advice regarding setting as a goal making ten pumps easier to achieve. I am not only sorry, but very embarrassed too. Well, the suggestion for working up to more pumps still stands, only fewer of them will be needed now. Again, sorry all!

GX CS2 good for beginners?

Finally got the CS2. UPS lost the fiat one and GX made right by sending me another one. Just filled my Evol Mini with it and didn't take too long. I have a large filter that I put on it and took maybe 4-5 min to fill to 4000psi. Funny thing I have an older Omega Air Charger and guess what has the same GX inspection tag as these compressors lol. Guess I've been running a GX for years. I'll probably keep this one packed away for now until my Omega craps out but will always have this as a backup or can take it to fill on the go from my truck if need be. I think I should have just sprang for the CS3 like the one I got my dad but the CS2 will work.

Walther LGV

I own a Lvg..I bought it off a guy years ago locally for 100 bux. He had used the rifle to shoot pigeons and fed them to his falcon. He had to surrender the falcon do to medical reasons and got out of falconry.

First time shootin the thing I couldn't believe how sweet it shot. Almost like a tuned rifle.

I also bought 2 outdoor patio tables he had made. I stll have them.

Enjoy your new guns.

HW/Weihrauch  Decision Time - .20 HW77K vs .22 HW77

I am a PCP guy but cut my teeth on springers long ago and still enjoy shooting them, I go through cycles, right now I am on a springer high, just picked up a new HW97K in .177, shoots 7.9 g CP's just over 900 fps and also likes RWS Superdomes just under 900 FPS, this gun is spectacular ! I had a TX200 in .22 but most springers in .22 aren't fast and flat enough shooting for my taste, I leave the .22 cal and above to PCP's. I also have a R9 .20 cal that is a great gun as well. If your just shooting paper or cans the .177 is the way to go. I sighted my HW97 right on at 35 Yards and it's still right on @ 50 yards. Fast and flat is the ticket. I also have a Beeman R1, R9, R8, R7 and two FWB 124's, I shoot the FWB 124's the most. One is tuned with a ARH Soft kit and the other is full power. The Soft kitted 124 is right at 750 FPS with JSB 7.87 and gets shot the most. The other 124 is exactly 100 FPS faster and shoots just as accurate. The R1 is a .22 and seldom gets shot.
I really enjoy my break barrel rifles, I have about a dozen or so, three Weirauch springers HW-30 in .177 cal., HW-95 in .22 cal. , and a HW-80K in .20 caliber, one of my favorites is a .177 cal. Cosman Vantage NP, it's one of my least expensive rifles but it performs way above it's price point as far as accuracy and reliability, I had to work on the trigger and mount a decent scope on it to get it's full potential but it is an amazing air rifle especially for is low cost, I have been fortunate with my choices, all of my air guns have been great shooters.
I have almost pulled the trigger (pun intended) on a couple of PCP rifles but so far have resisted the temptation at the last moment, mostly what's holding me back is all of the support stuff that one needs after purchasing the rifle, hand pumps, air compressors, scuba tanks, and the occasional air leaks that need fixing, whether shooting in my back yard, at my club range, or in the squirrel woods, all I need is a good rifle and some pellets, for me that's what I like, I like SIMPLE.
If I was shooting past 60 yds. then I'd look at PCP's, but for now I'll stick with my more traditional air guns.

Wood stock V Laminate stock V Synthetic stock V Metal stock

The stock depends on the gun and its usage. Metal, laminate or wood could be dictated depending on environment, usage, and the gun.

The ergonomics discussion is almost laughable. Custom stock fitting for not only ergonomics but accuracy goes back over a hundred years. Purdy shotgun stock fitting comes to mind but if you Google custom stock fitting the plethora of custom stock fitting options from many gun stock makers offer is now the norm. You need to be there in person for a true custom stockmaker to fit your custom stock for your gun.

There is a reason for this.
One of the RMAC shooters commented about the increase in cositancy changing to a metal chassis.

Stalking rats with my HW100T

Back at it again at the rat farm. Armed with my trusty HW100T spitting out the Hades 16gr with 28 ft.lb of muzzle energy, I was having another nice night out.

Stalking these unknowing rodents from short 5 yards to 50 yards with my night vision scope without spooking them is priceless. Having an accurate gun makes my job much easier and fun to do. No matter how many I shot, they just keep on multiplying.

Enjoy.

Vortek PG4 return policy

Thank you for suggesting, if won’t be able to return it, I will pm you, since I really have no use of it.

The HW97k with the Vortek PG4 kit has a really clean shot cycle. No buzz really, but the kind of recoil you would expect from a 15# springer. I do understand that the springs aren't expected to last a long time at the full power level. A tradeoff of the smaller diameter spring with the inner/outer guides. I don't shoot mine a ton and when I do it's a delight. For what it's worth, I have a HW98 with an ARH Hornet kit/Vortek piston seal and it's absolutely splendid. I believe the fit of the rear guide and top hat with proper lubrication makes these things sing.

What rings for HW110 and Arken EP5?

Hi everyone!

I'm new to air rifles. I ordered HW110 Carbine style and now shopping for a scope for it. For the money I really think Arken EP5 is best what I can find and most likely more than I ever would need for target shooting. I am looking for advice regarding mounting ring height for this combination of scope and rifle? Do I need high or mid? Or maybe even low would work just fine? Does anyone have experience with that combo?

Thank you in advance!

Airforce  Talon SS 25 cal?

Pretty sure most who know me would agree that my reality is weird enough they would prefer to avoid knowing any details about my dreams, Scott. I even often wake up wondering, "Where the hell did THAT come from?"

Tuning  Diana Chaser .177 pistol, 150 shots

Hello @nobody1

Thanks for sharing this info. Can you give me the number of coils remaining in the 55mm length? By any chance do you know the material, ( stainless, piano wire, hard drawn ? ) , that would really help.

Thanks again,
ThomasT
I am sorry to reply 2-3 months later but I just saw your post.

This is the link to the hammer spring I used:

I bought all my hammer springs from that seller.
