FX  FX Dynamic Hammer, Valve and Barrel Length Help!

Hi all,

I was hoping I could get some advice, I put an 8mm wildcat/maveric hammer in my panthera .25 hunter compact and it opens the valve fine giving me about 860 fps on the altaros 49.5s. Same thing with my Dynamic 700mm .25, but now, my Dynamic .357 the valve does not seem to open how I would expect. I get no velocity increase past 175 bar, I bought an 8mm brass hammer, 9mm brass hammer and a 8mm tungsten hammer. The 9mm brass and 8mm tungsten are within 10 fps of each other, even though the brass is 10g lighter, pretension is a huge thing. So my question becomes what could be the issue? Is the .357 valve legitimately that much different and harder to open? I am also using 132g slugs, does the slug weight have an impact on opening of the valve, (no idea how but just throwing it out there).

I also converted a M3 impact .357 800mm barrel to use with the rifle, simple heat gunned the transfer port and swapped the dynamic port to it, and its maybe 20fps faster than the original 700mm barrel at identical settings( is that normal, I was expecting nearly 100fps boost, 10fps per additional 10mm of barrel was what I always saw before going from 500 to 600 to 700, but maybe diminishing returns). Again just including this incase these other factors point to other issues with my setup. The only difference in my installation of the hammers was I put some silicon grease on the hammer in the .357 dynamic and I did not do this when I installed the other hammers in my .25.

All three of the rifles were ordered from different dealers, pyramid sent me the panthera hunter, the pellet shop sent me the 700mm .25 and Utah sent me the .357 dynamic, so maybe there is different versions at play here, but I checked all of them and none of them have the updated pressure release valve on top of the reg guage, so all of mine would be considered earlier models.

Any advise would be appreciated as I was trying to build the most powerful .357 dynamic possible and its currently topping out at 900fps with the 132grains because I cant open the valve past 175-180 bar, I have the Huma gen 3 regulators, already described the hammers, the .25s all have slug probes as I am still waiting for Huma to send me a ,.357 pin probe.

TLDR - .25 dynamics I can open the valve with the gen 3 huma reg up to 190 Bar with the 8mm hammer, but I cant open the .357 dynamic past 180 bar even with a tungsten hammer!

Taipan  taipan mutant safety not working

Thanks guys! I was able to use this information to get it sorted. Turns out my linkage came disconnected too (in the back area), and got that reset and the clamps in the right place and we are back to shooting!

this was also useful

Alabama and Georgia folks take a look at Talladega

I’ve said this before but it’s true. At the airgun matches I’ve participated in at CMP the majority of shooters are high school or younger. They have good family support, they work hard, they are safety conscious and very nice polite people. They often come long distances and are part of a school team or local gun club. We couldn’t ask for better representatives for the shooting sports or gun ownership.

Crosman  362 Anniversary Edition question

I've been shooting it and I think it's starting to "wear in". I still have residual air at 8 pumps, but at 7, all air is expelled.

Accidentally pumped mine up to valve lock the other day. Had it pumped and ready for pest for a few days. Forgot, and pumped it up again. just a quiet click when the hammer dropped. Took a little while to figure out what I had done. I was afraid to really pop that valve with a hammer. Dissassembled the gun and gave the valve a careful squeeze with a reloading press to vent the air. All is good now.

Air Arms  TX200 problem

Thanks for all the input. Pretty certain I have gotten to the problem. The culprit is the cocking shoe. I had more play then I thought. Didn’t have any brass shim stock on hand so I used .005 copper strip. Made the tray around cocking shoe and seen no difference. So I added another .005. That jumped me from 710 to 785fps. 20 shot string and all within 15fps. Now whether the copper will hold up is another story. But definitely the lock up.

PCP Pistol  SOLD Airmaks Katran Compact Bottle .177 $850

SCOPE & RINGS NOT INCLUDED. Selling my really nice Katran purchased from UA in February. She’s a great shooter. She’s tuned by UA and that’s how it’s stayed I haven’t touched a thing on tune. I’ve slightly made the trigger lighter because it felt heavier than I liked, I don’t know the pull weight but it’s not a hair trigger however it feels good, the safety works and won’t bump fire👍I don’t know shot count but I’m sure a lot on this mild tune I get bored doing shot counts on big tanks. Comes with 4 Carm magazines, single shot tray, original magazine, nice wood grips. I’ll ship in a soft case. Selling to buy a Brocock Ranger.177. I’m a micro compact fan this is a small gun folded but Ranger is much smaller :) Asking $850 shipped PayPal f&f. Immaculate condition just priced to go.

Newbie here to air rifles

Welcome to a great community of like minded folks! I too got into airguns because of a chipmunk infestation that had gone out of control.
You have a great start with the Avenger and bug buster scope.
I agree with the advice about setting up a target at the range you are going to be shooting the rodent's at, and a bait station is a great idea too.
Good luck with the rodent hunting!
Post up about your success, and have fun too!
