FX  My FPS tuning set up

Interesting..... what do you put in the box as a backstop? I'm using sections of radial tyres at the moment.

Also, what chrono do you use? I find the FX pocket v2 often fails to register over such a short distance (I'm guessing the doppler radar doesn't have enough shot-time), so I recently swapped to an old-school LMBR light-based chrono

Dunk
That’s is bags of rubber mulch inside the box. I know with 1000 fps at that range still doesn't even go half way through with .22. And that’s the original fx pocket or mini or whatever and honestly they are very finicky but if you have it dead even with your barrel it will maybe miss 3 out of 150 shots.

Snowpeak  SPA Regulator setting

I've been tuning my P35 and P35X and got a little lost so I started removing the regulator to change it and doing some measurements. There are no markings on the regulator to tell you what setting of the adjustment screw gives you what regulator pressure. I am also unaware of a regulator tester for spa regulators. If you know of one I would love to spend a little money and get one. Anyway, so we have a regulator and we want to make a change, how do we know where to turn the screw to? I think the paper tape that Huma puts on theirs is a bit of a clue. I have a Huma in my Caiman and I had to remove excess silicone grease from its washer stack and put a little on the O-ring of the adjustment screw after I got the gun. So I've had it apart. I did not take measurements of the two but just looking at them the SPA regulator looks a lot like the Huma. But the point I am getting slowly towards making is the Huma markings are for one turn or less of the regulator stem. I think the useful settings of the SPA are probably similar. All occur in about one turn of the adjustment stem. But where do we start?

I have not done the work to tell you exactly what length correlates to what regulator setting but my guess is whatever I told you would not be exact for your regulator anyway. I'm messing with two guns that are not acting right and I suspect there is a fair bit of tolerance in the SPA parts. But I think we should target about 50 mm length. The picture shows how I measure it with a digital caliper. The stem moves about 0.5mm for one turn. I don't think you can go up in length (and regulator pressure) a lot but I've used 50.15 successfully before. So maybe 49.? (6?, 7?, 8?) to 50.2 would be useful lengths to try. Again, a shorter length will be a lower regulator pressure. A longer length will be a higher pressure.

What I recommend is to set the length to about 50mm. Say between 49.95 and 50.05. The point is not that you have to be ultra precise, you are just trying to get in the ballpark. I have the regulator in my P35X set this way and it is giving me about 700 fps on 25.4s, for example. It seems to be working but blew out an O-ring yesterday so I need to shoot it a bit more to be sure. This P35X has a 450mm barrel so it's velocity will be low, I am trying to set it up around 30 fpe for a pretty good shot count and plenty of power for squirrels. So I have one data point to say a regulator length of about 50mm will work but result in a lower power than a lot of you probably want. Turning it up 1/4 turn would be .125mm and about the maximum I would try next if I wanted more velocity/fpe. If I wanted less I would shorten the regulator by a similar amount.

I don't know what SPA guns use the same regulator but my 3 P35s, my one bullshark, and my one P35X all seem to. I've interchanged them between guns. I'm guessing the Scout and Ranger may be the same and I wonder if the two new Dianas might also have the same regulator.

FX  My Fx Panthera needs some help

Not really, you should check with Utah Airguns.
The issue is fixed. You are right, this hammer is a little heavier than the OEM one. I just simply turned the hammer spring down to level 1, and now the rifle is shooting about 810 fps, and 4-5 mag per fill with normal noise level. Thank you so much.

RTI  RTI MORA .25 cal Standard Review after 4 months ownership

View attachment 581447RTI MORA .25 cal Standard Review after 4 months ownership

Hi fellas, here is my impressions about RTI Mora 4500 slugs after receiving it.

Again, I’m not sponsored nor I got anything in return for this…well.. if you consider a hat shipped with spare parts as being paid or sponsored, go ahead, it’s up to you.

I really like to be honest giving credits when it is deserved.

This time I will jump to conclusions first then I’m going to walk trough what I like and what I don’t. These are just my opinions and nothing comes from “ What I have been told” but straight from what I have experienced.

In my opinion, having tried/owned most of the major Airgun Manufactures the RTI Mora is a real gem and the best, most accurate slug Airgun ever tried. It’s reliable, consistent, it never ever looses it’s POI even after cleaning unless your remove the shroud, it’s not cold bore shot dependable which means you could virtually hit a target from your first shot without refreshing your plenum and it will maintain the same velocity reading from the first shot to the set Reg pressure with really tight standard deviation and extreme spread of less than 9 fps. If your gun doesn’t do that problems apart, it’s your fault due to an incorrect valve setting.
.
I’m not saying there is not anything else on the market but this gun suits all my needs.

A further explanation is necessary to explain what my needs are: my Mora is a hunting set up so I’m not necessarily looking for the best accuracy on paper what truly matters to me is power, killing power and a high BC because I love extreme long range hunting. I do not shoot in competitions, I do not care… so if you are more focused on PRS or target shooting this gun might not for you.

Most of my shots are from 80/100 m but inside 200 m range, and a good amount up to 350/400 m on steel. The only slug Brand capable of producing an awesome expandable projectile up to 300 m is ZAN Projectiles, at least here in Europe, other than that anything else stop expanding after 180 m, zipping trough a ballistic gel block like a pencil.

Another thing worth mentioning about this topic is that I do not shoot animals past 200 m normally, way too many variables and I do not like injuring those pests but it happened sometimes especially in the right conditions that I shot them so having a good hollow point slug is key.

Having said that, those Zan 45 gr slugs at 1033 fps delivering 107 ft/lbs or 145 j are unmatched precision and expansion by anyone else. They look like they were made for that fantastic RPB barrel which will stamp those tiny groups over and over again.: it’s a sub moa gun in the good weather conditions

What I like also about Mora is the ability to deliver a tremendous amount of power even with “only 600 mm barrel” and the possibility of running very high Reg pressures, talking about my Mora set up I’m testing the gun with only one Reg: I deleted the first Regulator and I’m running the second Reg with 180 bar pressure. I have to say I was skeptical about a proper Reg functioning, especially because I fill up the gun with 315 bar but it’s working awesome with no issues at all.

My next goal is start making my own Boat Tail Hollow point slugs, boat tails are the future in the Airgun world and I’m looking of high bc hp slugs in the 50/55 gr range. I have 66 pounds of beautiful Zan lead wire laying around in my basement waiting for a .25 cal Corbin die with BT punch to come. I wish I could get my hands on something with the above characteristics but here in Europe there is no manufacturers producing them yet so I’m not the person giving up on something I’m passionate about so I decided to invest on that.

Finally talking about those two things I do no like about the RTI Mora:

The rubber butt pad comes off very easily so I bought a 3d printed adjustable Butt Pad which makes the gun more ergonomic and enjoyable to shoot from a prone position.

The gun is very butt heavy, shooting from a tripod or a post it’s not easy. I did not find a permanent solution yet but nothing that wont be fixable with adding proper weights distributed on the front of the bottle rail.

Last but not least, technical support:

RTI Arms technical support is second to none, I received fast answers from Rok Avbar and Jakob Bončina when I messed around with the gun and received spare parts in one week after I assembled a reg part upside down damaging it.
In 4 for months I had one leak only so I changed only a worn out valve o ring but in the mean time I serviced the entire valve system just to be sure.
Hello. Does removing the first regulator require additional parts? What disc spring setting did you use in the second regulator? I will also be grateful for a picture showing the valve setting. There are lines that will tell you where you are. Greetings

Beeman  Beeman R11 spring kit

I'm guessing it's the Mk1, since the safety is a "lever" running parallel along the upper right side of the action, that pushes forward for FIRE position. It's their early model. I just got it, from Ebay, so I know nothing of it's history. I just ordered the TBT kit made for the HW98. Fingers crossed that it's a cross match......

Western Airguns  Western Rattler .452

As a long time user of LCS/Western, I recommend that you get one box of a few different sizes from NSA/Mr Hollow Point/ High Arc Hunter. Your specific gun is going to like one round better than the others. The only way you'll know is through trial and error.
Thanks brother. Yeah, through trial and error; I learned that with one of my other airguns, haha!

new guy to airguns

Stopped by the LGS and bought a higher set of rings. Mounted the scope and now have plenty of clearance. Range time. 3,000 PSI in the rifle, 50 yards to the targets from the bench. Sighted in the scope. Love that "pft" as I pull the trigger and "plonk" as the pellet hits the target. 50 pellets shot, still good air pressure with out any adjustment. Magazine failed, it wouldn't turn any more to place the next pellet in line for the firing pin, presume the spring died. Helllo Amazon! Ordered two more mags. All in all quite pleased with thee entire PCP experience.

Brocock/BRK  Ghost regulator not holding set point

Dressing the seat surfaces is indeed the way to improve it. It's actually not that bad, though, A decline from 124 bar down to 114 bar is a change of about 8%. Anything under 10% is usually rendered inconsequential if the gun is adjusted for the velocity knee. Has the gun been difficult to coax into producing a stable velocity?
Just realized that I never answered your question as to difficulties to produce tight strings. Not at all, it’ll give me ES 5 and SD 1.3 on the power wheel setting that’s giving 97.5% of plateau speed. It’s getting bad once I use the PW to go down quite a bit to shoot lighter ammo though… but I’m probably 20-30% below plateau at that point…

My two VIXENS

Feeling rather smug this week, I llike my EDC AGT Vixen Short which I love cos its LIGHT, compact, weatherproof and accurate. And was easy to lighten even more. My Arthritis and Long Covid strictly limit what I can carry and shoot. So two years ago I bought a Vixen short in .22, I cut down the handguard, removed the rather ineffective shroud and fitted it with an unbelievably cheap 3D printed moderator which is the quietest moderator I ever owned, I fitted open sights at times but generally use a Red Dot. What an amazing carbine it is. THEN bloody AGT had to bring out the Mk2 with a longer barrel (bout 2 inches) . A Longer and larger plenum chamber, A longer Pic rail, and a better shoulder stock . So I blew my pension on a Mk2 Vixen short and tweeked that as well :), Roughly 2 pound lighter without the shroud and metal fore rail. and its a tac driver out to 40 meters.

Love seeing red dots on airguns👍

Magpul bipod - squeaky and unstable

I'm not sure I have a use for a tripod. I like a bipod in that I still have control over the rifle. I use a bipod in the front and a squeeze bag in the rear.

Rochester Brooks match results July 26

Since we hadn’t shot in the woods since last July there was obviously a lot of growth. Doug Rogers and I hit the woods on Tuesday with my buddies walk behind brush hog, 2 push mowers, weed wackers, pole saw, and hedge trimmer. The lanes had two foot of growth, a few small dead trees down, and overgrown bushes. We also had to open up the lane that we drive in, that the club maintains, that seems to always get smaller. Fast forward to Friday, I met Shaun Pragle and Daryl Van Why to help set up the course, which went very quickly, and I appreciated their help. It was a quiet day Saturday weather wise, no wind, very humid, 80s and mosquitoes and black flies. We had 6 shooters, half of our usual group are in Connecticut for the Rockville GP. The course was shorter with the creek running through, only went across the last 4 lanes which we weed wacked, resulting in a 27.2 Troyer. I had one illegal lane,a 1” at 51yds, since I couldn’t put out any at 57 like in the fields 😄. Results are as follows

Hunter PCP
Rich Sarama 56 FX Crown, Helix, FX 10.3
John Solpietro 51 MROD/ Challenger, Athlon Aries, Benjamin 10.5
Jacob Pattison 46 Avenger, Bushnell R3 6-18x50, JSB 13.4

Hunter Piston
Brian Sarama 46 HW97K, Element Helix, H&N 9.5

Open PCP
Rick Vaeth 53 Steyr Challenge, Hawke Sidewinder 8-32x56, JSB 13.4
Shaun Pragle 52 Marauder, Vector, Benjamin 10.5

Benjamin .177 / 7.9 gr. Pellets

Hello,

I just wanted to send out a report on the Benjamin. 177 hollow point 7.9 gr pellets that I have been using lately.

I've been shooting them in my higher powered springers with great results.

My Diana 34 EMS rifles really like them and I think its that they seem to be harder and a bit sturdier than other brands.

Also, I really like that they are "Built in America" whatever that means exactly.

If anyone from Benjamin or Crossman is reading this, I truly hope that they continue to be made here if its not too late already....

Next is to try them on the Field Target course.

Happy Shooting Everyone!

AEA  What size fill tank for a Megalodon .50?

I dont have a Meg but I do have an Element Max in .457. I quit filling to 4500, now I fill to around 2800/3000 psi and get 5 or 6 shots all around 250 lbft of energy. My post has some more specific info you may be interested in about air usage. If you have a 6.8ltr bottle you could do a lot of shooting. I want to try it out with my 1.6ltr bottle to see how many actual fills I get.

Hope this helps you out
Thank you!!!
