FFP + Holdover reticle + excellent Glass

Hi,

I’m in search of a certain scope. I know the attributes, but not the scope. It is FFP, has a very useable reticle for airgun holdover and has “excellent” glass.

Since excellent is subjective, I’ll define it through my own experience. Better glass than Sightrons STAC line, at or above their siii line.

16x or 24x magnification, ~10-15 parallax

Might “Compromise” on glass and just go with their Stac line, but want to make sure I weigh all my options. Any help welcome

¡Hello from Peru, Ricardo! 😊

I'll attach two Scope Specs Tables for you below.

● One has scopes in the 4-16x | 3-18x 4--20x magnification range.
● The other in the 6-24x | 4-24x | 5-25x | 5-30x | 4-20x range.

● As you requested, the minimum parallax is 10y/15y.

● It is sorted by FFP and SFP — so you can go straight to the FFP section.

● About the glass I cannot tell you that much. But you can see from the prices that there are some significant differences.
And comments on the forums usually affirm the quality of certain brands — especially if you look at the middle and upper range series of those brands:
Sightron, Nightforce, Element, Riton, Vortex, Delta, Hawke, Athlon.
Even Vector with their Continental (and Paragon? and Taurus?) line is quite nice.

➠ You said you want to weigh all the options.
That's precisely the reason these tables exist — like you I wanted to consider all the options before spending my limited funds. So, I started comparing scopes, and finally ended up with these tables.

Happy scope shopping! 😊

Matthias

Why are scopes so expensive?

I have several CVLife BearSwift 5-25x56 scopes I bought on Alibaba for $115 plus shipping. To my old eyes the glass is as good as the Leupold Mk4 i inherited many years ago. Only complaint i have is the paralax/illumination knobs are very tight and hard to turn. Bit heavy but X56 scopes are big.

Have several Spina X50 and X56 scopes. Not quite the glass of the Bearswift but fine quality. A little cheaper than the CVLife.

All are FFP

If you are not doing competition or long range there is no need to spend more than that on a scope. At a certain point it just becomes an ego gratification exercise.

Sound Meter APP for tuning...

good idea ?, I worked as a hobby in my wood shop , I now wear hearing aids ($7000.00 , 48 place graphic EQ ) and i still do not hear some frequencies very well . Protect your hearing ! EVEN when you think you don't need to , , YES even electric mowers as an example .
Yeah, PROTECT YOUR HEARING!!

Shooting .22 rimfires without hearing protection ruined my hearing, been wearing hearing aids for decades because of that.

Hog Hunt with a .22 Mendoza Xtreme PCP (not my content)

Chinese gun not made by Mendoza. Same company used by Crosman with the Icon and UMAREX gauntlet parts, list goes on.

Chinese custom shop for importers pretty much.
@Airgun-Revisions I kinda figured that, but didn't want to assume. I was looking at some of the models and wondering of some of them are rebranded models of guns made for other companies.

Mendoza Sports PCPs (A Mexico Based Company)

Wandering more, came across a couple of these on Fleabay. It's branded as a Hammerli X2, the X2 part meaning it's dual caliber and would have come with both .177 and .22 caliber barrels. Just me guessing, but the back cap on the comp tube is exactly the same one that's on both my Mendoza's so I'm guessing Mendoza made them for Hammerli.
This one has both barrels, but the seller is asking quite a bit more than it's worth considering he states it's a refurb and he's never fired it...lol.
There was another one, but the seller only has the .177 barrel and asking even more than the one above.

Yong Heng Screw-up!

I found it. It was atop the 1st stage cylinder. Glad I turned her off immediately!
One positive is that you now can disassemble and change the piston in your yong heng...I have rebuild my yong heng 7 times in three years. Can do it in about 30 minutes now... So $30.00 for piston gasket rebuild kit

Snowpeak  SNOW PEAK M60 B ..bottle version in the uk at last from ysguns in mirfield yorkshire uk cost 599 .95 uk pounds

Well done, wish you the best. Picked up a .35, from Krale(Netherlands) for $605 (US) in March. Fit, finish and action not close to M3 but at a fraction of the cost, not too shabby. Arrived as older style, " remove-bottle-to-fill," but after $37 (US) to Wes @ airgunarcheryfun in Canada ended up with new male foster-fitted bottle collar. Aluminum 250bar bottle is heavy but not switching to CF, just yet. Lobs FX 81 grain pellets @ 650 FPS accurately @ 50 yards, exactly as I hoped it would. WM

Brocock/BRK  Ghost VS Huben K1

Nobody has time with both of these?

In lieu of qualified responses, having owned a Ghost and now owning a Huben GK-1 pistol, I'll offer semi-qualified opinions. The two guns you ask about are very different animals. So let's start with the differences.

My first imprerssion of the Ghost was, "Man, it's heavy (for its size). Feels like it's built like a bank vault." Those initial impressions never went away, probably because it is (both). It also has a truly match-grade, multi-adjustable trigger. These qualities theoretically make it capable of greater practical accuracy (in human hands), whether or not it is capable of greater absolute/potential accuracy. Nevertheless, and despite wanting to, I never bonded with my Ghost.

Assuming the trigger and/or heft of my GK-1 pistol reflects that of a K-1, my reactions the first time I picked up and shot a GK-1 (now mine) hopefully speak some volumes. But first, understand I neither wanted to like a GK-1, nor expected to buy one.

"It's surprisingly pistol-sized (considering such a POWERFUL PCP pistol). It's also got quite a light heft" Then after the first shot, "Better trigger than I expected" (given it's a semi-automatic). After the third shot I turned to the owner and, WITH A HUGE GRIN bubbled, "I GOTTA HAVE ONE!"

All these reactions have only been reinforced in the thousands of rounds I've put through it since, as the trigger-action has gotten even better, and the accuracy has proven almost as excellent as the most accurate and expensive air pistols of the HUNDREDS I've owned. That said, a competition air pistol it really isn't. However, a funner air pistol, and/or a better hunting air pistol not only doesn't exist, but there are no close seconds (place).

For additional perspective (outside air power), the GK-1's trigger action and accuracy (to 50 yards and beyond) come uncomfortably close to rivaling that of my Smith & Wesson Model 41 target pistols.:eek: The Model 41 averages 1" groups at 50 yards, the GK-1 averages 1.20" to 1.5" at 50.

GK 19 at 50.jpg

This 19 shot (full magazine) GK-1 fifty-yard group measured 1.45" c-t-c.

GK1 Gilmore 40.jpg

Self-explanatory.

BTW, despite its light heft, after thousands of rounds through my GK-1 I have the impression it is built like a bank vault! 😂

Hope this helps.

RTI  RTI P-3 .25 slugs - what’s working for you?

awesome. Thanks for the info. I think my reg is a little hot (~ 140-60). I think I will lower it to 125-30 and see if it settles down enough to be polite.

Below is my best group with so far. 20 shots @ 40yd. Pulled two and felt it as I pulled the trigger. Ruined a pretty good two mag group then did it again. Haha

RAW Rapid  Anyone Recently Try a RAW MicroHunter in .177?

... and the trigger was amazing, the regulator was fantastic (consistent), felt light in use and real handy.

But in my case (and others I've heard about), overall the sum of the parts was definitely LESS than the individual components/features/benefits.

Unfortunately I feel that the RAW product line technology had gotten beyond the current staff's capabilities. They are nice folks, and most of them seem to try to do what they say (eventually). But they don't seem to have the skills to fix problems with their products. Or maybe they just won't spend the money to do the fix correctly (in my case replace the barrel, if that was indeed the issue).

And they don't truly seem to care that they have lost my future business - and maybe some business from folks who might read my (and other) posts.

Unfortunately acting only for sales today and not adequately caring for tomorrow's potential customer can be signs of a business which is failing.
I do know for Fact .. that when I was in the factory several years ago that it was stated that finding qualified persons already living in Texas was very difficult & finding qualified person/s willing to Move to Texas even harder
