Sorry but….

Sorry to have to gripe again but this new change has presented another problem for me at least. Before, if I tapped the forums link it took me to a list of various topics such as General discussion, pcp, traditional and so on. Now it takes me to some sort of variety page. I had to do a search for general discussion to get here. I got the white color back thanks to being told how. So how do I get back to the forums list?

BBQ Squirrel for the Holiday

Pressure cooker first ?

Not for this batch, but I do use a pressure cooker sometimes. That prob does the best of making them the most tender. Can really get the meat to fall right off the bone with a pressure cooker. But if grilling I like to keep them a bit more firm so just did a low simmer in pot for this batch.

Show-off!

Another Huben GK1 .25 ammo thread

update:

Both 33.6gr and 38gr NSA .254 slugs, which actually measure .255 at the base, shoot amazing out of the GK1

They have an R4 BC ~.088 with the first shot at 860ish fps and the 17th shot at 815ish fps when starting with a 350bar fill.

The accuracy is very very good.

I tried AVS .254 slugs, which come in measuring at a true .254, but they do not shoot well at all. I ordered some .2553 slugs to test. The GK1 seems to really like .255 ammo.

If you are looking to tune your .25 GK1 for maximum performance out of a single magazine with a full 350bar fill, 32gr to 36gr is a very good sweet spot for your ammo.

38gr or higher shoot well, but the velocity will be too low imo, with first shot at 825 fps or lower.

I will post some shot groups in the coming days.

Western Airguns  Rattler trigger problem

So looks like one of my Rattlers developed a trigger problem - wondering if anyone else has had this happen or can diagnose?

It's got around 10k rounds through it so this is the first problem with this one - but the trigger doesn't reset after you pull the trigger and fire.

It takes a little more force to reset it - as in if I pull the trigger and release it normally, it will not reset.

If I pull the trigger and slide my finger off the trigger and let the trigger fling back into position, that amount of inertia resets the trigger.

So I'm guessing something in there is getting sluggish or hung up or something? Not a big tinkerer so don't wanna go poling around this thing before I know

types of skirts in slugs

What gun are you shooting slugs from @joselitovillasboas ?

Good question, Ken. Some airguns have a pin probe, and some have a partial tube probe. The pin type is more likely to alter the seating depth between different projectile base configurations.

Joselito; As for pellets with a flared skirt, VS slugs or bullets with a flat base; their aerodynamics are different. Slugs need a faster rifling twist in the barrel than pellets. Meaning 1:16 twist in .22 caliber is good for slugs up to 40 grains, while also faster than pellets need for shooting smallest groups; especially as range increases.

Shooting heavy slugs with too slow a twist barrel will tend to have the projectile yaw and then tumble, to cut long holes in the target, rather than round. Grouping ability will be very poor under such conditions. Pellets can shoot well using very slow twist rate barrels (or even smooth bores), providing there is an effective air stripper at the muzzle to prevent the initial air blast as the pellet leaves the muzzle from upsetting its flight.

HW/Weihrauch  Weihrauch hw35 "prezision" stamp

Interesting how these guns are marked. Mine was purchased in Germany in 1986ish. There is the “F” in a pentagon on it. Also stamped W. Germany to denote we had two Germany(s) at that time.

I have no real need to make that rifle shoot anymore powerful than where it is at the 7.5 joule. But if I did, would this particular gun have anything built in to preclude me from installing an “export” version spring kit? Just thinking how Colt made their AR15 back during the Clinton ban era of different sized pins and blocks to prevent using USGI spec BCG and fire control parts.

Optics

Some scopes have what's called a tight "eye box". The more generous an eye box is the less you'll need to move your eye around to find the center most area of the field of view in the eye box.

Also make sure your diopter is set to your eye correctly, this is your reticle focus. If the reticle isn't in perfect focus then the visual experienced will be compromised.

Sometimes the answer is to spend more $ to get into a superior scope. Cheap scopes kinda suck. I learned my lesson the hard way.

Not a bad haul so far

Very nice haul indeed, you can finish the “yard work” later…. Those birds payed the ultimate price for interrupting a man’s outside chores… 💥 x 10! Good shooting on your part. 🙏
Well the hail storm that came through last night destroyed my garden... and 2 of my cars. One of which will be totaled. It was my backup car anyhow, maybe 1500 miles in 2 years I've driven it. Going to collect that check and buy some toys 😃

At least the hail did me a favor and tore down the rest of the overgrowth!

Silver linings I guess...
