Hello from Tx/Tn

I took about a 6 year break from pcp airguns but now I'm back to learn more. Great forums yall have here. I came from gatewaytoairguns, the yellow forum, marauderairrifles etc.
Sold my house in the burbs in Texas and I'm looking for property in E Tn so maybe I'll see some of you around : ).

Currently shooting:
- Marauder .25 with a lot of valve work and SSG. 3 mags from 2900 fill @ 865fps ES 40 sd 19. Doped to dial out to 100y
- Waiting on shipment for Uragan 2 from Tony in .25 cal. Will be a hunting set up ~910 fps
- Kid's diana stormrider in .177
---- I regret selling my Taipan Mutant in .22 after losing interest in airguns
Welcome back

Making friends at the rifle range!

I shoot a FX Impact M3 .25g 600mm barrel using hollow point 33.5g slugs I am a member of very nice rifle range and shoot often. When I pull up at the 100y range, there are usually several members shooting their loud high power rifles. After setting up my table, I ask for a "Cold Range ", set up paper targets at 50y and put out several golf balls at 100y. Once the range is "Hot", the sound barrier is again broken with multiple rifles. I shoot quietly at 50y and hit the 1" dot consistently. The murmurs begin. Then someone says, "What's that you are shooting?" The conversation begins. I offer to let them shoot my air rifle. Someone takes me up on the offer. I set it to 100y and say, "Shoot the golf ball." He shoots and the white ball jumps. I have just made several friends and gained respect! Try it sometime.

That's a solid way to convert people into airguns haha.

Coyote #9 - finally

I believe a skilled hunter with a high powered 22 who is patient enough to wait for a brain shot is an ethical hunter. I know I tend to hope for the best sometimes, however, so I would want a 30 caliber or at least a 25.

From tests I have done I conclude penetration in hard materials, mdf, used to simulate a skull is about the same for an expanding projectile as for one that doesn't expand. But for body shots both is softer test media (soaked magazines) and a few shots in recently deceased squirrels I see a lot less penetration with projectiles that expand. Like about half as far for an expanding pellet or slug. So for body shots I want a projectile that doesn't need to expand to make a wide enough hole so I also have good penetration.
Funny you say mdf, im a carpenter by trade and shoot in the shop every morning. 3/4 standard weight mdf in your test? That said, the 31 nsa closer to 1000 fps can go clear thru 3/4 and my aluminum shop door as I found out the other day.

AEA  Fill Probe To Foster QD Conversions?

Im not a fan of fill probes as I seem to misplace them eventually.
Generally speaking, can a fill probe be eliminated and replaced with a Foster QD style filling?
Is it possible on some guns, but not others?
The AEA Challenger Pro and the FX DRS are 2 rifles that interest me, but a Foster style fitting would certainly be prefered.
Thoughts?
you can also leave the fill probe in and and cap the end...

Shoebox freedom 8 45 min scba tank fill times

Love that setup! How many times does your shop compressor kick on when filling a tank??
Usually only once, and often not at all. But my compressor is a 26 gallon unit that fills to 175 psi (it starts when the pressure drops to about 135 and cuts out at 175). It is in my garage, and I keep it full and switched off.

I manually control when it runs as I use it for stuff, typically keeping it between about 120 and 150 on the tank (shutting it down before it gets full most times), but before I use the Shoebox I typically make sure the tank is full enough, and turn it on if needed - I then let it stop and cool down for a bit (having opened the valve to charge the manifold system before starting it up) before firing up the Shoebox in my basement workshop.

I do drain the shop compressor as needed, especially after long runs, but I want as a cool an air charge as possible to feed the Shoebox, and the long manifold helps with that. In the winter, the compressor being in the garage helps cool and "dry" the air even more . . .

Left handed safety

IMO, don't worry about it, and don't use the safety. After playing around with a good many air rifles, I can honestly say that I haven't found a safety that I trust.
When hunting, or moving around, decock on an empty chamber. Most FX rifles, and others that use spring loaded mags present a challenge. With them, I either load the mag and fire one in the dirt, or just don't insert the mag.

Hatsan  New Mod 95 Vortex

I like my 95 Vortex .22 cal as well, hard to believe Hatsan can sell this for $149 w/scope. The stock on mine might even be a little nicer compared to yours, so no complaints there as well. Re the brass trigger, it might be brass plated pot metal at best, but it does work well after tweaking the trigger adjustments a tad. Unfortunately, the original Vortex ram in mine gave out fairly quickly, but Hatsan "eventually" took good care of me and sent me a new ram which I installed. I did have some "issues" with the install but she is shooting quite well now. Using the JSB 15.89's, she's spitting them out at about 745 fps/19.6 ft lbs. So decent power for backyard pesting, my main use of the rifle. The Quattro trigger has a very decent break now, and accuracy with the JSBs is pretty good as well. Very happy with it. The Optima 3x9 scope is still "alive" so far, but really not that many pellets fired as of yet. I did a little "backyard" parallax adjustment on the Optima, it's very clear now at airgun ranges. We will see how long the scope survives, will put a "better" scope on it when the inevitable happens with the Optima. For now, I'm just gonna keep using it as is.

I just ordered a new scope for mine.

Got the Marauder in about a week ago

Ballistol, not Hoppes. Do not use anything but 100% food grade silicone grease and oil inside the pressure chamber. Or just go shoot the darn thing. The Marauder is already test fired at the factory, at least mine was and came with the test target. Nothing like the CCP rifles that come with some sort of nearly impossible to remove goo inside the barrels.

1st FT Match

Planning on having a couple of tins of pellets. Hard to say how many I’ll drop :)

On the position lanes, can you range the target seated? Or must everything be done offhand or kneeling?
Yes, you can range seated (with sticks if you are hunter class) or use the offhand stand to range if present. I will range all of the targets first so I don't have to go back and forth.

Deathgrip 360

It's a great piece of kit, and while not a benchrest, if you use the articulating arm as a rest for your elbow, it's very steady!
The one thing you must to do to MASSIVELY improve stability to prevent the oh so easy tipping over by it's own weight (for those with no experience withthe seat: when the arm extends outwards when nobody is seated and even when there is NO load on it, the whole chair tips over and falls to the ground by it's own weight!)

IMG_5373(1).JPEG

It's a piece of scaffolding with some clamps (used for lightshows and such, easily found on Ali or Amazon).

But how stable does that make the whole thing? Well...

...You can now fully exent the arm WITH an airgun on it and it will NOT tip over when nobody is seated!
Of course YMMV, but you get the idea...

Airgun Shops on my way to Orlando, Fl?

Central Florida Airguns in Daytona is an hour from Orlando. They have a lot of FX, Western Airguns, Daystate, AEA in stock.
His selection of "accessories" is limited. It is a great little shop located on Ridgewood Ave in Holly Hill/Daytona.

If you want to hold several different guns before you buy, it will be worth the hour drive. Jon (The Owner) is super cool.

STO

Sorry, but who/what is STO?
Silent Thunder Ordinance.

FX DRS Pro, 22, Shipped Today

It did arrive on Monday from Utah Airguns. The stock, well the whole rifle is beautiful. Very interesting to me that there is no gauge to measure regulator pressure. I had the gauge and angled mount already so was not an issue. They had so much locktite on the spring adjustment that had to take it out of the stock, put it in the vise to break it free. This rifle has only two adjustment, the spring and the regulator. In other words fairly simple. I have the regulator at 160, came at 150, turned the spring in and I’m shooting the 31.4 NSA at 1000-1010 depending on slug diameter. Bottom line the rifle does shoot. can’t wait to shoot it this week.View attachment 471064
Congratulations !
That's Looks Awsome !
I really like my DRS Classic 22 700

Hatsan  Hatsan 125 5,5mm vortex spring

I’ve got a Hatsan 135 and a Gamo Magnum, both with gas rams and I prefer the firing behavior of a ram. The only spring rifle I have shot in the same power range however was a Beeman Kodiak, so I don’t have a large sample size to compare with.

I found the Kodiak to be much more hold sensitive than either of my gas rams is. That very well could have been due to something else other than being spring powered though.
