Great weather for shooting, not so much for setting up.
getting comfortable with my new set up, thanks for the input Greg.

challenging course as always, dark targets and mysterious wind at the last lane. Gotta keep an eye out for place,mt of target near openings in the tree line.

thanks for all you do Greg and Pat

Air Arms  Problèmes FX impact m3

this is something that you adjust only once and never again, so use some loktite. FX impacts mostly leak either when they are tuned to the absolute maximum or if you mess with them all the time(like every piece of machinery out there). if you are not happy with leaking air you can always use stronger orings ‘NBR90’. be carefull to not strip the threads of the riffle because there is no turning back after that

FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 8/24/2024

Sixteen shooters decided to brave the August Texas heat today at the beautiful Arlington Sportsman's Club, but almost all said that it didn’t feel that hot. I guess 97F temps, 40% humidity, and 10-13mph winds from the south helped make the day feel “cooler” than expected. We had 2 shooters from Tulsa, OK, one shooter from Arkansas, and the rest of the bunch was from central and south Texas. The course was 56 shots on 10 lanes with one off-hand lane and one kneeling lane. The average Troyer this month was 33.6, SD 6.05, Avg Dist 31.6 yds, and Avg KZ 1.01”. Most shooter scores indicate that the course was a little tougher than normal, but not Brian S. who killed it with a 93% knockdown rate and score of 52/56.

The only really challenging lane of the day was Lane 13 with a target on top of a 16 foot tower 1t 40 yards, and mesquite branches that moved with the breeze back and forth in front of the KZ. We didn’t discover this interesting fact until after the first couple of groups shot the lane, and by then it was too late for anyone to protest. It turns out that most shooters hit it at least once, so I didn’t see the need to throw it out and mess with scoring. The other challenging target on this lane was a red wasp at 53 yards in the dark and partially obscured by tall grass. My assistant to the MD, Scott C, thought it was harder to focus on than a black target. It was also an illegal target by the fact that it was 1 1/8” rather than 1 ½”, but once again no one protested until after the match.

Here are the results:
August 2024 scores.png

Brian S won Hunter PCP with 52/56 followed by Derrick W with 48/56 in 2nd, and then Rick C with 47/56 in 3rd by way of best forced position performance. I won WFTF PCP with 42/56 and Mark Welker won WFTF Piston with 33/56.

Thanks to everyone for helping take down the course, it was very appreciated. Our September match will be on Saturday the 28th, with guest MD’s because the MD and AttMD will be out of town. We appreciate the ASC club members who are willing to stand in to run a match when Scott or I are unavailable. Thanks a bunch!

See you at the next next match,

Hatsan  Hatsan Fever

Ok thanks for the information. I wanted to get a better velocity for heavier pellets and longer range. I don't want to diesel it because of the possibility of damage and inconsistent performance. Coyotes, racoons, feral pigs and the occasional bobcat.

A breakbarrel Hatsan is not suitable for hunting those animals. You will need more gun .

Huma MOD-40 availability

Oh I'm sure that being less expensive(either to manufacture and/OR lower failure rate/less free replacements) was their reason.
If it "worked just fine..." why did you post a picture of yours with the guts blown out of it??
Anyway, I hope I'm wrong in saying that Huma will not make them anymore because I really like them. If you're close to PBA, ask Joel to get the skinny from Huma.
That was caused from accidental double feeding. I go there usually once a week so I'll ask haha. He has some nice guns in stock

Diana  D75S First Impressions

In my two D75s the 8.44 JSBs are the most consistently accurate pellet. Do not get hung up on ES. Your targets will tell the truth. I have 20x and 24x scopes on mine. I shoot lots of 20 meter groups. What I have found very important if you want tiny groups, under .100 at 20 meters, is a consistent trigger squeeze. My one shoots at 565 the other at 630. I was told the 630 probably has a Micarri spring in it making it a bit quicker. They are very easy to shoot well. Are they more accurate than my TX200? No, but easier to shoot well. Also much easier on my arthritic hands, a big plus.

Lead Removal

Pretty simple test...

Put some in a small container, drop an o-ring into the "soup" and let it sit a week.
I did that with some oil (Gibbs Brand) that I found.

In the case of the Gibbs... No o-ring swelling, no "apparent" (fingernail test) weakening of the rubber.

If submerged for a week in "whatever"...and no harm was done to the rubber, it's not likely to do harm, when just cleaning the barrel.

Mike

As long as the oring you use for a test is made from the same material as the oring on the gun that's great advice.

They make all sorts of orings for different applications. Each is unique. Almost any can be used for air fittings. Only certain materials will resist oils and solvents. Some are made to resist fuels. Some for acids. Some are safe for high pressure oxygen.

If you can't find out what type of orings the manufacturer used it is fairly simple to get one that you can trust. They make them in every size and configuration in whatever material you want.

If you don't know what you are dealing with you are kinda rolling dice with different solvents. If it works no problem. But if it eats the seals just get some that won't be damaged by cleaning.

AirMaks Arms  Krait slow first shots after sitting a few days

My Krait was doing great, consistent and accurate. Several weeks back I lowered the spring tension which actually added FPS and made the rifle much more quiet. Quiet was what I was looking for as the gun sounded like the hammer was striking harder than it needed, which turned out to be true. Now for the last week the gun shoots quite a bit slower for the first several shots and settles back in where it should be.
The thing I noticed as I keep an eye on it is that the reg is very consistent and returns to the same pressure after each shot, it's also on the correct pressure before that first shot.
This has me thinking,..........hammer spring tension.
Maybe I lowered it too much to overcome any setting in after sitting a few days??
Thoughts before I start messing with it.
It's likely regulator creep. As the pressure rises in the plenum the hammer can't open it as far and the first shot or two will be slower. Common problem with regulators. Do you have the Huma regulated Krait? I haven't noticed creep in mine so far. Also if you are having to lower spring tension to get higher PSI shots, your spring was adjusted too far in to begin with. A good tune is to find the highest fps you can get with the spring and then back it off to 3-5% below that number to have good shot count and still be consistent. And if you don't have a digital gauge for the regulator pressure you don't really know if the reg increased or not. My airmaks gauge seemed accurate until I threw a huma 25mm on there.

Krait low speed for first shots after sitting a few days

I have not seen that sort of regulator, my huma has a simple straight blade screwdriver head on it. It sounds like you need to decrease velocity significantly over 5% and if that is true I agree you need to decrease the regulator. I was thinking of it before I got good results at about 900 fps. My peak velocity was about 940 fps so I am at less than 5% under. I was still getting low first shot velocity when I was 5% under. I don't know anything about the Krait layout. To change the regulator on my Caiman you essentially have to take the regulator out of the gun. It is not terribly difficult, fortunately, but it is nothing like the external adjustment of my Avenger.

N/A  Olympic Form

Where are there ISSF related shooting clubs in the US? I was an ROTC university instructor in the late 80s for a short while in MN before I was pulled out to go to Desert Storm. I did ROTC as a prior service cadet in Iowa in the late 70s. I never heard of a rifle or pistol team at either place. Maybe the pool of prospective youth shooters exposed to the sport is pretty small compared to what the Euro and Asian countries have at hand.
There are about 8000-10,000 kids that shoot competitive in HS each year. Most are a part of a JROTC program. Others thru a private club. The CMP is a big part of this and do a lot to support it. USA Shooting Sports supports it to some extent (Jr Olympics, etc). There really is a big underworld of ISSF shooting sports going on under the radar. If my daughter hadn’t been in the right school at the right time I wouldn’t have know it existed. It does exist but gets no publicity unless you belong to the CMP or USA Shooting and get emails of the latest news. CMP has done a terrific job of promoting and growing the sport. It’s mainly focused on HS and college kids. For example my daughter shoots NCAA rifle in college. There are a number of big name colleges that have a NCAA rifle team. Did you know that? Almost nobody knows that unless their kid is on the team. The TCU Women‘s Rifle Team won the NCAA Championship last year. Most shooters had no clue. No publicity. Sad because we have some amazing kids doing some amazing shooting and nobody knows about it.
