Ear protection while filling gun

Hey Guys,
I wanted to share with you something that happened to me , now, a month ago.
While filling my Crown mk2, I had "attached" my quick fill from my cf bottle to the filling port on the Crown, making "sure" that it was fully locked, so I thought. I started building pressure in the micro bore hose. At about 2500 psi , the qd came loose. Luckily, I make it a habit not to stand over the filling port while filling, just in case . Well, the hose did not hit me but the sound sure did.
I'm not sure what the malfunction was because the l locking sleeve was tight, so i thought. SOB, that was loud.
For a month now, my right ear has been plugged and it sounds like ocean breakers in that ear. I haven't sought medical help yet but in another month , I will.
Won't hurt to take time to put in foam ear protection while filling. I am.
Hopefully, this sharing will make you think about ear protection while filling your pcp. As much as I love the beach, it's never ending noise can get tiring.
Thanks for reading,
Mike
Things that will help
#1 ice the affected area/ear. 15 minutes at a time for a few times a day - this will calm the injured tissues. It works wonders!
#2 rub peppermint oil around the ear and eustachian tube descending from behind your ear… towards your throat- it’s a vasodilator.

RTI  RTI owner Rok shares all the coolest features built into the new Mora!

I know I bitch constantly about the price of guns, and I have spent the money on some that were Very disappointing, but the RTI guns are worth the money

I have bought Many of the High-End guns, sold most of them for one reason or another, but the One gun that I will never sell is my P2 Performance Tuned By Francisco 2.0. This gun has consistently been the best by far.

I know the Mora is in pre order stage, but is there an estimated actual release date?
I wish, still waiting. Ordered in December

Airgun Technologies  (New PCP Pistol by AGT) Airgun Technology MANUL now available!

There is a spring plate and a ratchet pawl, the pellet probe shoulder then moves the spring plate downward just after the pellet is loaded, then when you retract the bolt the mag spins to the next position. So at no point is there any sideward pressure on the pellets.

RTI  Can the RTI Prophet 2.1 (.22) be tuned to shoot CPHPs?

My .25 cal RTI barrel shoots slugs and pellets equally well, actually a little less finicky with the pellets I have tried. I have not however tried a low power tune as that does not fit my use for the rifle. As for adjusting. For the PCP's I've owned this one is the easiest by far. Reg can be set both ways with the rifle aired up, the hammer spring doesn't need fiddled with for the sweet spot (but a few clicks on way or the other can dial in a projectile), and the rifle doesn't have to be taken apart whatsoever to do any of it. Figure out what reg pressure with how many hammer spring clicks it likes with that setting and projectile and have at it.

HW/Weihrauch  Yep! It Happened Again,,,

I know what you mean when you see a great deal and can't pass it up. I was looking hard for a Beeman R7 or HW30S, and no one had new ones, and used ones were overpriced. Then I stumbled upon this HW50 Hunter in .177, that already had a TnT spring kit added as well as a Rowan extra setback trigger, and had a Hawke Airmax 3x9 on it. The light marks on the stock are actually interesting grain patterns. there were no blemishes on it at all. Two weeks after getting it, the Beeman R7s became available again, and I ended up finding a good deal one of those too.
A few years ago, I bought that exact same Hawke Vantage scope for one of my rimfires. I discovered that the point of impact shifted as the magnification changed. One the first scope it shifted straight to the right about 5/8 in at 25 yards. So I sent it back for replacement. On the replacement, I locked it in a vice (using the rings) and checked for point of aim shift before mounting it, and the replacement shifted down and to the right about 5/8 in at 20 yards. So, I sent that one back and bought a Leupold EFR 3X9 and it was perfect. I do have two Hawke Airmax scopes, and a Hawke crossbow scope that are great.
Anyway, you might want to lock your HW50 in a padded vice centered on a target at 7X, then turn it down to 2x and check for shift. Hopefully my two bad Vantages were just flukes from the same run of scopes.
After shooting centerfire Bench Rest, both short range (100-300) as well as 600 yards, for over 40 years, I have become kind of a scope snob. The one scope that was eliminated years ago, was any that said LEUPOLD on them!! A lot of competitors use them, but in BR competition, they the most returned scopes in use. Even the old Weaver 36X with not quite as good of glass in them proved more reliable for me.

My only problem with this lightweight outfit in POI shift is from bench, to offhand. I'm sure zI will find the hold I need to obtain the same poi for both. But out of 8 other springers, this is the only one I'm seeing this with.

But any scope I buy or acquire immediate goes thru a range of test. groups of 5 shots on a 2-7 will see 2x, 4x, and 7x. A 4-12 would be tested the same at 4x, 8x, 12x. I also shoot them at the same distance be 12 25 yards for air guns, 50 yards for rimfires, or 100 yards for most centerfires adjusting the parallax under and beyond the distance I am testing at to make sure when my eye is centered in the scope, they shoot to the same POI.

I also have an old Vantage 2-10x44 SF that has been on 3 or 4 different springers over the past decade and a half. never a hiccup. But right now with 5 Airmax, and two vantage the only one I have had trouble with was a brand new 4-16-50 IR SF, the most expensive Hawks I own. the replacement has been spot on.

I also have used the XB-30 Pro since it was introduced with the old steel sled mount on it. It was nice, but when they went to 30mm tubes on those scopes with infinite IR, I replaced all three of my crossbow scope to the new one, I currently run 2 on my bows, and have one brand new setting in the box in case that bugs hits me and I find another special Excalibur worth buying,,, the only crossbow I will hunt with.

But that's it, anything requiring under .1" moa capability, it will be Night Force, March, or Kales. But I have been using Sightron's mostly 8-32x50 and just bought 2 10-50x60's, one for a varmint rig, and one for a test against my NF 10-55x50 on my favorite 600 yard gun. To be honest, the NF is slightly better glass, but performance and repeatability is looking just as good.

My problem with shooting the extreme accuracy game for so long is now as I age, the travel the time loading and cleaning, and getting back to the line in time is becoming more work than fun. So, I'm now turning this into the same tail chasing game with my air rifles! The ones I had for years that were perfectly fine, no longer entice me, and I am running the gambit from plinkers to target guns and have to try everything in the top tier in each category to be satisfied. Problem is, when I find a better one, to replace something I already have, I cant part with the ones I'm trying to replace???

Again and again and again. For 70 years its never changed, someday I'm going to have grandkids and son's that acquire a wealth of very nice toys!!!!

Like everyone has said, 145 bar isn't much and you have too much hammer weight. You can easily open that with a brass hammer or likely a stock hammer and heavier spring. I use a similar setup as you have now, but I am using a 35 cal and opening it near 190 bar. If you want to try a brass hammer, pm me your address and I can mail you a couple different weights as long as it is in the U.S.A.
Thanks buddy much appreciated, i am based in Egypt and currently in Congo for some work, i will try following all the advices and will let you know in 5 weeks. hopefully i will be sorted, thanks again

HatsanUSA - ZADA on Sale!

hehe well toy / firearm, you should probably not be a smart ass in public, even here in Denmark stupid kids of stupid parents have met the police,,,, emmmm cant remember what they are called here,,,, not SWAT of course.

Funny thing i dont even think airsoft ASO weapons here need to have a orange tip,,,,,, which just amaze me, but then again i get that a lot from my rulers.

I will admit WHY ? put that magazine on there in the first place, seem stupid and irresponsible if you ask me, net least factoring in that here it is probably all visual.
Was it something like the DRS and it at least was a plenum i could understand it, but on a GD break barrel that's just asking for problems.

PS: back in 2012 when the Danish airgun scene was ruined, it was due to clickbait newspaper articles, and then a few kids in the capitol area using something like this ( cheap .177 break barrel ) on people in the streets.
And so my hobby was ruined for pretty much nothing.

I loathe the disrespect and distrust my rulers show me,,,,, sure if i am a animal,,,, throw me in a cage and then throw away the key.
But until then respect me, or you will get nothing in return but contempt.
same thing happened to brocock, back I forgot when..probably 30 years ago..I had a brocock 522 and it was a great gun after I rebuilt the tandem air cartridge with industrial o rings.. I wish I could have and would have stayed with airguns.. but life got in the way and I had to pay bills..
I'd sure like to have that old brocock 522 and then the matching single six and then the golden boy.. mine was the original design and the side of the cylinder was turned out, so you could see the cartridges but they were held at the back 1/3 and front..it also prevents turning into a firearm..a later model they had solid cylinder and some bad guys drilled out the barrel and must have changed the firing pin since it was made flat to push the valve on the cartridge.. anyway crime was done and they were seized and outlawed in the country of manufacture so brocock went out of business until they came back in a standard PCP gun..
it's just really sad that bad people can ruin nice things for us all..
hopefully this post is ok.. I'm definitely not in favor of doing anything wrong.

HW/Weihrauch  New HW97K .177 Accuracy

Now you know what I talk about. My Hw50 is 7 lbs flat because I use an 11 oz fixed power non AO scope. It's my best handling rifle and the only one I take into the woods. Can I carry a heavier gun? Sure but why would I of I don't have to? The 50 is the Goldilocks Weihrauch. It's just right.

Hw30 (my wife's) about the same weight as the 50.

Be well

Like I said before it gets priority status, I'm going to have to get it to shoot as good offhand as the 77K does. Or the middle choice the R10. The R10 is the most forgiving 177 I own, and the most accurate. But with a complete HO tune from J.T. that goes unsaid. I'll give a little accuracy, and don't need 15.5 fpe for squirrel.

The 11.8 fpe will work, but gotta get it to quit shooting low left 3/8" at 20 yards when I take it off the bench. We'll get there but gotta find what it likes, just like with a fine woman, they gotta be held their way!! Once you do that the dividends pay off!

Skout  Attention Skout Epoch Owners-

OK as a last resort I Installed a thicker O ring On the valve thanks to manabeknives observations . Luckily I have a lot of assorted O rings ,
the O rings supplied with the gun were all to thin . so now the gun Is holding air , thanks to you guys and your Input at the end of the day an easy fix . who needs customer service when you have forums like this . Although I think Skout needs to fix this O ring problem .
Glad i could help :)

What is the Purpose of Knurling on Slugs?

It shot ok...better that without the Knurling by about 500%.

This is 25 shots at 50y. The accuracy isn't bad but these blow a lot more than I would like. I think they were 34g. I use mostly Rimfire barrels and this was a way to evaluate slug shapes that would not have fit well in the .223 barrels.

Mike View attachment 476596
VK now has .223 slugs he offers in both 28.5gr, and 32.8gr. I'll be testing the 32.8gr out of the Huben GK1 and K1 this week since these are brand new

BM500 HV up to 940 fps with 25 gn`s,, is it possible ??

I understand that you need to enlarge the transfer port a bit, install a high efficiency valve, install an external plenum of at least 40cc and anti hammer bounce device with a bit stronger spring.

It should do the trick 👍

My BM500X .22 is shooting 25 grain pellets at around 950fps with a similar set up.

Regulator is around 150 bars.

Thank you for the excellent and helpfull information. Doug and Vipha

Air Arms  Air Arms SE90 Side Lever

I have one of these.

It's not had much use recently, and I'm trying to source a barrel weight so I can sell it. Bizarre as it sounds, mine did not come with the barrel weight. As a teenager who only want to target shoot and plink with I didn't realise.

Other than missing the barrel weight, it's a beautiful airgun.

Balistics App Truing??

As ranges and velocity changes get larger, you will increasingly encounter difficulties matching firings. There are basic fundamental problems with using trajectory models which rely on the use of BCs. The reference drag law will never match the shape of the actual drag curve of the projectile. Coupled with this, many of the available models do not have suitable drag laws in the first place for pellets or slugs. In addition, many users do not put in the correct atmospheric conditions when calculating a BC from measured speeds, or when subsequently using the trajectory models.

None of this makes a great deal of difference when ranges are 50 yards or so, but as ranges get longer, then problems can occur. Using multiple BC values is one way to try to match at certain points, but it is not solving the basic problems with the use of BCs, or the inbuilt inaccuracies of the point mass model used by just about all the available trajectory models.

This is why many years ago the large calibre weapons trajectory models changed to purpose drag laws and modified point mass models which need a lot more input data than is available for bullets, pellets or slugs, unless you can create it yourself.

Air venturi avenger plenum

Basically you can choose to increase your power, or shot count. On my Avenger I saw more power after adding a plenum extension without making any other adjustments. I could chose to lower my tune settings to increase shot count some, but I want all the fps. And I have a 300cc bottle conversion so shot count is like one million. You probably dont actually have to make any adjustments to answer your question, but can and likely will want to.

For the stock though, you will obviously need to remove some material to make room for the plenum extension. I have a wood stock so I used a hole saw, file, and dremel.
