Air Venturi  Avenge-X .177 High Setting Round 3

I have been continued to test pellets in my new Avenge-X in .177. I have found some nice low power setting rounds. These shoot at the 0.50" at 50-yards level. I am not sure I can expect a lot more than that here. So now I am looking to find something that works on the "high" setting. Note I am not tweaking the rifle. While it is highly tweakable, indeed intended to be tweaked, I wanted to see how I could do with it as it came new from the box. As usual it goes into my video diary.

Air Pressure was kept 3000 psi or higher throughout.

The weather was 88-degrees Fahrenheit with about 80% humidity. There was a slight 0 to 5 mph wind. It varied in direction but was largely a cross wind.

The rifle is stock, and there are no tweaks to the gun. The bottle started the day at full capacity. I took a couple of shots to sight in the rifle. The shots all remained on the regulator. The rifle was kept with a total pressure of 3000 psi or higher. The regular remained about 1800 psi.

The best shooting was the JSB Monster Redesign 13.43 grains. The Benjamin performed OK but had some looping.

Do I Have a Scope Problem?

Lol... If I shot all that at 20y with my HW I'd be ok with it .. lol
.. 🥴. I'd be blaming me , my hold or the wind ..
I've been doing the same. I've kept working on it because my instinct was telling me that the gun was great. I never felt like i was throwing those pellets all over. This card makes it clear to me that it's not me or the gun.

Air Venturi  Avenge x rattling

Glad you came to this conclusion.

Really the most you should do, if you ever do tear it down, is, as I mentioned in a pm to you, measure the free flight via the slot where the trigger/sear enters. Optimal free flight distance is 1-1.2mm, and if it were to be sub ~2mm I wouldn't bother messing with it.

Until then, enjoy your gun, and don't worry about a shim turning it into a leaf blower if you do happen to someday reduce the free flight to a degree... :ROFLMAO:

I really love that gun. Thank you all for all the answers and help. I really appreciate it

Zelos actual weight

Thats funny when I just looked at website it showed 6.95#, guess they cant make up their mind. Never hear of manufacturer including weight of pellets in actual weight. Airgun Depot probably put lighter weight to help sell more guns. Pyramyd didnt even have weight when I looked.

Where did you see the 6.95# on umarex? Strange indeed!

*edit*
Oh, wait, I see it now, .22 cal says 6.94 and .25 cal says 6.74...

Now that is funny!

Arken EPL-4 6-24X50

I'm kind of disabled so Long range shooting in my area has been a challange. That being said i finally got my tractor fixed and restored...So its ready to go to our other family property to brush hog.. Should be able to setup 230 -275 yard range there..I move slow but am moving in the right direction..I need to be able to drive on my ranges to the targets..I have about 200 lbs of .510 slugs ready to go:D
Well I hope you get everything going soon!! 275yds is definitely a good home rang for sure!! Mannnnnnn, 200lbs. I would definitely say you are ready!!!!🤣

Needed/wanted PCP tools?

Wooden dowels
Brass brushes and nylon brushes
Scope leveling kit
Patchworm/Pull through cleaning kit
silicone grease
Ballistol

Edited to add: a rubber mallet
Ok … for the OP
time to compile and consolidate all the inputs for us!
but
add a torque wrench for proper torque on things like scope rings
add a proper device for holding the Airguns securely and level
add shop rags
add glass cleaner
add ballistol
add blue? Loktite
add common sense as it’s not readily available in most places

Skout  Skout Epoch tunes?

Do you have the digital pressure gauges installed?
Makes the tuning of this rifle much easier ..i use the digital gauge from Orc air...about 50 bucks

What i have done is to chart the pellet i am testing.
Take a shot..record the FPS and the High Pressure reading...bump up the high pressure reg and shoot.
usually from 800 fps to high 900's.
So when people say they have good results at a certain speed, you can look at your chart and dial it in to see if it works for you.
This will give you a general idea of where to start the fine tuning
I have learned that the low pressure setting is performing better when increased to a 14-15 % of the hpr

Mine is a .22
i can say you can get these tuned with small adjustments and patience.
i have mine @965 fps with a ES od 5 and SD of 1.4 ..this was over 20 shots ... just time, little adjustments and patience

FX  Is Fx Crown a worthwhile upgrade from a Dream Lite?

I have a Dream Tac and a Mk2 Crown, both in .25. With the Dream Tac, it only has the power to push 25.4g JSBs to 895fps. With the Mk2 Crown, I'm pushing the limit with 33.95 JSB heavies at 890-895fps. The Crown is a great bench rifle at 50 yards, but it doesn't have the power to push heavier slugs for 75-100 yards.

Wanting more power capability, I just picked up a 700mm .25 Panthera from Utah during their Labor Day sale.

Gamo  Gamo Viper express opinions

Gotcha. I suppose only option is maybe the seneca double shot or to drop the whole shotshell airgun possibility as it seems we arent there yet
If noise is a concern, The double shot has no moderator. A friend had a Sumatra in .22, without a moderator it sounded as loud as a .22 magnum.

Projectile bad in short range but good for long?

Hello! I was watching a video on YouTube, and the man said that there are pellets/slugs that perform poorly at close range but perform well at long range, and that they can stabilize with distance.
Is that possible?
Because if a pellet/slug doesn't group well at close range, it will be even worse at long range, since it's already destabilized up close, and this would only get worse with more distance, right?

Yes, it's possible, but with a notable asterisk being that the close vs. long range performance must be relative to another projectile.

As an example, if a person is shooting a well-tuned gun with standard dome/diabolo pellets, they might see a 0.25" CTC group at 30yds. That result is sub-MOA. Very nice. But when they move out to 100yds, the groups open way up to 6.0" CTC, nearly 6 MOA, and what most would consider quite poor. So that scenario shot great at close range and poor at long range.

Now if we compare that to a higher BC projectile like a slug, you may see a 0.5" CTC group at 30yds. A little over 1 MOA, so decent, but not as good as the pellets. But then move the range out to 100yds, and the slugs may print 2.0" CTC groups. Quite a better better than the pellets at that range, largely due to the better BC.

So this was an example of where in a relative manner the slugs performed worse (relatively) at close range, but better at long range. The key is that it is relative to the other projectile, and this is why you will sometimes hear such comments that a projectile is better at long range than it is at short range. It's basically an incomplete comment, but can be true when taken in the full context.

It’s back!

Season 5 of the Airgunner Challenge is starting September 25 @ 6:30 and 10:30 EST on the Outdoor Channel.

Love what this show does for the industry as a whole. Sharing the love of airguns and the fun with so many NEW and yet to be airgunners every year. It is also crazy how many people I bump into that watch the show. Keep up the great work @American Airgunner!

Are you Ready? American Airgunner Challenge 2024 is Coming!

Resources  N50 Score Page Is Live

Awesome!!!! Updating all my snafus today was actually fun its that cool. Great dev work, UI is beautiful, intuitive and makes it super easy to use. Nice support pages too!

Looking forward to this being a great addition to matches, frees up valuable time to focus more on our shooters! Gut Schuss!

What barrel does Thomas Air use?

I have a question, above bigHUN mentions "fire lapping the FX Liners, how can you fire lap an pellet rifle barrel?
"Fire Lapping" is when you coat a pellet with a lapping compound and shoot it in hopes to smooth the barrel out. Where it can be effective, most consider it a last ditch effort

FX  Any advice on replacing the A18 O-Ring on the FX Maverick?

If they work please link.
I gave the needle another attempt, but I was afraid I’d end up doing more damage than good. I followed some advice by recommend getting a hold of some brass picks. I ended up ordering these (Next Day Delivery) and was able to remove the o-rings within a matter of minutes.

As HogKiller mentioned, reference Post #13 on this thread, those things get tricky if they’re older.

Pellet Weight Difference

Can be yes, it only needs to be a few thou out to give a problem.
Only a few thousandths of a grain off the centerline to cause a problem? or a few thousandths of a distance?
Are there any practical tools to check concentricity or where the center of gravity is relative to the "centerline"?
