I drilled out the choke and recrowned it already. I'm past the point of no return. The only thing that improved was suprisenlly the accuracy. The gun that barrel is normally on is sprung about as much as you can without making it harsh and hard to cock. That gun should have been making 17 fpe or close to it. Sprung to the max it was under 16. That gun is now wearing a 20 caliber barrel and makes over 16 fpe. I'll probably leave it on there. You say accuracy is good.
Anything sudjested so far is a one way street. Once you cut the barrel, lap the barrel or any of that it's done forever. Have you thought about shimming the main spring or replacing it? If it doesn't work you can always go back to the way it was.
The "bad" barrel is now on my softened R1 for testing. I'll probably put the R1s normal 22 back on hang on to the "bad" barrel until I find someone who shoots short range and is more concerned with accuracy than power. I shoot 25 to 50 yards and sometimes random distances out to 100. At those distances anything under 700fps requires too much scope adjustment and or hold over. I try to keep everything between 700 and 900fps. I know being short 2 fpe does not sound like a lot but where it's short makes a big difference the way I use my rifles.
