Crosman  Crosman 22xx platform, flat or flatter triggers?

no i have 3 triggers here one in the 1701p grip frame, one a stock 2240 trigger and a roller trigger from Cothran
you will note how the Cothran trigger is a bit straighter and i do believe he has one for the 1701P but you would need to email him
now the frame dictates the trigger shape but you could add 7 to 10 mm of material to make the 1701P trigger straight and or less deep
a mock up of a piece of plastic or wood as a test would be easy and then a piece of aluminum or steel could follow and a person with a 3D printer could make one very easy

HW/Weihrauch  HW98 Piston sleeve (or lack there of)

May throw lubed up through the cocking shoe slit on to the piston tube wall from off the spring ..

I mean if you got it just put it back in .. it's not big deal to snatch it back apart ..

my favorite is one of the square keepers fell out and see it on the table after I got the stock near put on .. 🥴

Huben  Back to the iron boys🤠

Was motivated by that other post about how GK1 not being a good pistol.
So decided let's take it back to the old school and go iron for a while, no dots nada.

Got up this morning and ran into the yard couldn't hold back.

Not a GK1 homer, but damn after a few magazines now, I never imagined I would enjoy it even more🥰
Ok got to dash out, just paused long enough to throw this up

Have a good shooting day guys!

Huma vs fx amp reg.

The only caveat to extremely large feed holes in a regulator, is as pressure drops from your peak fill pressure to your set point, the 'boost' declines, so depending on tune, this can increase ones spread. Its hardly dramatic however and you can see it present itself in my string below as "886" fps become more common towards the end..

Crosman  Crosman M-114 Shades of Blue

Excerpt from my CD “Of memories and Airguns”

Hello to all;

I picked up another Crosman M-114.22 caliber Co2 Rifle in July 2019 off the internet, there were no missing parts, the only thing mechanically wrong was the bolt cocking pin had sheared off, which was pointed out by the seller, but other than that, all was in order. Not going into the Rifles Historical aspect that has been duly covered herein before.

I had been looking for a 113/114 for a project I had in mind, I have generally in the past stripped the finish off the stocks on these units and left in a natural wood state with a final coat of clear poly, as seen in some of my other posts. I have painted the barrels/tubes in different colors and so on but this time I intended to do something different with the stock!

I saw a Pistol many moons ago that had some interesting wood grips, they had a very blue hue to them, they weren’t painted, actually they looked pretty good! I asked the fellow about them and he said that when he got the grips they were in the raw wood, no finish at all, and he decided to just stain them and since his pistol had a blue high polished finish, he decided to do so with some Blue RIT fabric dye his wife used too dye blue jeans with; and then put a clear finish on top of that, they looked really good and quite an unusual contrast!! Told myself then; I was going to do that myself one day on something; and so, it was this C-114, that I decided to try that process on!!

After replacing the bolt cocking pin, I went thru my normal mechanical refurb on the valve system and components, trigger set @ 40 ounces, this has all been covered in detail in some of my other posts, no need to elaborate on that process here; anyway after completion I refinished the barrel/tube assembly in a Dura Coat “Metal speck” Blue finish with a final coat of “Clear Poly” finish. And I was now ready for the stock refinish.

After I completed striping of the stock, I went to my local Wally’s store and found some Rite Dye in a “Sapphire Blue” decided this was the color I was going to try. With the stock sanded and ready, I used a sponge to apply the RIT dye, (full strength) I did two separate coatings, let it dry between each coat. After I completed drying, I applied two separate coats of Clear-Poly finish. I think it turned out pretty good, certainly a “different” looking Crosman M-114”!!

In retrospect; regarding the stock, were I to do it again I would elect to dilute the RIT Dye on a 2- 1 basis, think the stock was a little too dark in color, but that’s just my eye, others that have seen it in person said they liked as it was; guess it’s in the eye of the beholder, photos are included.

I had a Center - Point 4x32 scope on hand, normally I prefer the AO scopes, but this fixed/power unit had the parallax set for 25 yards. Good enough for this project, using an IA two-piece clamp on mount; I set up scope, and was ready for Accuracy and Velocity evaluation.

Not going to spend much time on this aspect as this was really more about the “Blue on Blue finish” of this C-114. I set up at 25 yards using Crosman PMHP 14.3 grain pellet and JSB 15.89 grain pellet; the groups for both were slightly over 1 inch; Crosman 5 SHOT C-C 1.13 “ and JSB 5 SHOT Center to Center 1.10” One inch groups are perfectly ok with me, usually the JSB pellets in my experience are capable of .650” -.750” from these old Crosman’s (guess I need some more practice!) but as I said 1 inch groups at 25 yards; is ok with me.

This has been a really fun project for me, another 70+ year old Crosman back to life, with completely new look; can’t get much better than that in a hobby!!!!!! I currently have 16 of the Crosman Teen series Co2 rifles in my collection, I am sure there will eventually be more!!!!

Some may ask what my fixation is with the Crosman Teen series Co2 Rifles is all about, well pretty simple really; I received my first Crosman teen series rifle in 1952 when I was 12 years old, a Model 113 with 10-ounce Co2 Bottle, some 72 years ago now! All I had before were Daisy/ Red Rider BB Rifles, this air rifle for me was like having a “Bazooka” on a comparative basis!! It required much respect and was duly given such!!!!!!! My first C-113 CO2 rifle started my continuing collection of the Crosman “Teen” series Co2 Rifles that continues to this day!!

LEAD FREE .30 Pellets

My testing:

Guess we where all wrong thinking they wouldn't shoot straight. I'll stick to my lead, but good luck with your rifling after a few hundred, I imagine you'll be needing a new liner.

Athlon Heras 4-20X50 for HFT or PFT

I recently started using a HAWKE Airmax 30 compact 6-24x50 at 12X on my HFT pistol. Ranges well, short @3" eye relief and therefor a more generous eye box. BISLEY eye hood slid on full forward making eye relief correct .. yea short !
So far it appears to be about ideal for this application of PFT (y)

Air tank questions

Do not have your personal tanks hydro tested.
That is called stress testing.
Stress testing takes the device under test to its nominal limits for a specified time frame to detect incipient failure or induce actual failure.

3D tomographic xray imaging and/or ultrasonic testing is all that you need.
Also called NDI, non-destructive inspection
Any manufacturing or corrosion related issues will be detected.
Find a lab that is ASNT certified and have them perform the inspection.
And plan on paying a lot more than your tank cost you.

The reason they use hydro testing is it is cheap and requires a lot cheaper hardware to perform.

N/A  What sub $1000 .22 should I buy?

I'll tell you the truth, I've been really impressed with the Avenger. My buddy has one and the trigger can be reworked to a an absolutely fine trigger and it is a laser to shoot. Pretty amazing rifle.

Of course you can't rule out the Marauder, it's not got any flies on it either.

Then again, you could go used and probably pick up a Katran, or even a Dream Line. There's a lot out there if you look.

RAW Rapid  To to replace spring in gauge block? Micro Hunter?

On nearly ALL the RAW or quick fill converted Theobens the SPRING behind the fill poppet gets pulled out !!!
Doing so one can drain tank pressure slowly if needing to degas, with spring in place one must break a sealing o-ring elsewhere be it gauge, blanking plug etc ..

HW/Weihrauch  What's the opposite of a safe queen...?

My Diana model 26 in .177. I've had her since 1985. She was well used but not abused and always stored in a gun sock in a upstairs closet. These days she's tucked in a nook next to my work bench, She has fired. Over 2 k pellets through her barrel and still looks like the bell of the ball.

N/A  Recommendations for a British PCP

You have a lot to choose from and a proper budget to have a lot of choices. The BSA R10 is a good rifle. I had one I sold to fund a 10M rifle for my daughter. I wish I had it back. I really enjoyed it. I think the Daystate Huntsman and AA 510 are nicer rifles but not $700 nicer.
