Shooting passed 100 yards at starlings (edited)

@nef003. Sorry I am not familiar with the Arken Zulu 5x20 scope. For your case of 30 yards range, I would just zero at 20 yards and then figure out what your aim point for each yardage by shooting at a target box to see your hold over/under. Good luck and have fun.
Thanks for replying. Will try and hope to get the range finding along with ballistic option figured out that way I can just point click and shoot.

JTS  Aircuda Max low PSI

I tested a .22 Standard before they came out and besides the clipping on the end cap was actually a pretty good gun. Never leaked, shot really well. Wasn't my kind of gun so never got used a ton as I prefer bullpups and Mini carbines. Got damaged beyond repair from a fall and after awhile I decided to just toss it instead of trying to replace the parts. Didn't pay for it so wasn't stressed but am surprised by all the issues people have from them.

Huben  Huben GK1 V3 red dot mount

I ordered that kit you posted, just to do this operation.

Which Holosun did you get? I have a green one with a ring and a dot reticle, with solar power. It's pretty nice, but pricey.
@WobblyHand If I'm not mistaken, a Holosun 507c. It has what you're describing except the reticle is red.

N/A  PCP With Solid Barrel

I know bolt action PBs have barrels threaded to the action and many are free floated meaning there is no other contact between the barrel and the stock. If there is contact it is not to structurally support the barrel it is to dampen vibration. But the threads at the attachment point are an inch or more in diameter. I am pretty sure that no airgun uses 1 inch diameter threads to attach it's barrel.

Most airguns seem to attach their barrels with grub screws which is definitely less robust than even a much smaller threaded attachment. Some but not all airguns have clamps along the barrel to attach the airtube and/or action to the barrel. This has the effect of stiffening the barrel significantly and making the attachment more secure. Most airguns have a shroud over at least part of the barrel typically the muzzle is enclosed mainly to reduce the noise when the gun is fired. But the shroud also protects the barrel from direct contact with objects.

If I was looking for a "truck gun" which seems to be the objective I would be more concerned about the attachment of the barrel to the rest of the gun. Threaded attachment is best but I think the clamps along the barrel are more important. I also think a shroud over the barrel is preferred especially if the connection between the two is something like an O-ring with some give. The barrel diameter is also potentially significant with larger preferable.

My P35s have 13mm diameter barrels (not whimpy but not especially big) with clamps at about 6 and 11 inches from the breech tieing them to the airtube. The barrels are 450mm or about 18 inches long. The barrel is attached at the breech by one grub screw. From the second clamp they are shrouded by an aluminum shroud supported in the rear by a threaded aluminum nut and at the front by a machined aluminum diverter piece screwed to the barrel with an O-ring touching the shroud. They came with thick walled plastic stocks. They are less than $500. I think these attributes would make them a pretty good truck gun. The POI does not change in my experience from normal handling including leaning them against objects.

I would avoid a free floating barrel except possibly if the barrel is threaded into the action or otherwise very securely attached. I think a gun that clamps the barrel to the action at several points is preferable from a durability standpoint. Probably preferable to even a screwed in free floated barrel. The more the barrel sticks out past the last attachment point the more leverage there is for a bump to disturb the barrel. PBs prove a screwed in attachment can be fine but they also seem to give an idea what sort of diameter in the threads is desirable and I don't think airguns get there.

FX Hybrid slugs quality

I don't know if this is relevant to you, I did A LOT of playing around this week and the last. I spent all day yesterday and last night playing with different hammer, different pressures getting a velocity at 120 bar, then 130 bar and 140 bar. Every single time. I ended up in the same little tiny groove being absolute peak performance. Accuracy, efficiency, noise, everything. I just went long range at an actual range. This 131-133 bar notch, the tiniest ping and spoot, 912-917fps, and already good groups at 120. Tightened more. AT 100 .69MOA is my best. HP slugs at 30gr edged out zan, vk, and HP 2 30s by a little. But none were reject bad
In fact they were all MOA neighborhood. I shot 6 5 shot groups of each. My worst with HP was 1.233" my best .6876 average was at .8369" nothing was worse than. 1.5"(including the flier). I'm thrilled.

Sounds like yours is good enough to take down any pests at those distance ;)

Prod got a slight boost in power on account of me using the 10shot Maple custom mags. No sense in having a 24 shot tune so it was cut down to 20 with a 1fpe boost:

Just dropping off the reg on the last shot from a 3000psi initial fill so I’ll be cheating a little by filling to 3100.

The neighbor has borrowed the 1701P and has been putting it to good use:

👉 We made an already great target even better!

Mine just came in Friday! I was amazed at how well everything was cut. There wasn't any sharp edges! On my set all the holes in the tubing and all the cuts appear to be deburred. I did paint the circles so hopefully I can see them better.

The florescent circles are 2" and 1" I'll put the flags on tomorrow when I am at the range.

Hopefully I can hit them at the range at 100 and beyond. And I sure hope none of the yahoos will take shots at it. It's generally pretty good there but once in a while there is someone who thinks he can shoot at your targets. A lot of them have some big azz powder burners. 🙄

Allen
Thanks for sharing Allen! We cut all of our tubing on a custom rotary cutter. This eliminates any OD burr but more importantly gives perfectly square cuts. Without that, the target spacer stacks would not be able to be snug without binding. This is how we get the bind free buttery smooth action these targets are known for.
I love mine - don't hesitate to get one - you won't be disappointed!
Thank you for your support Mike!

Two Sparrows, Two Headshots Notos

Nice! I've been at war with them ever since the first frost hit. I breast them out (and starlings) for my cat to eat whenever I shoot them, but I have to say - the meat on those sparrows is absolutely clean and delicious! Tried a little piece the other day when I seared them for my cat in a pan coated in olive oil, and it tasted like venison.
Never tried cooking them up but I'll take your word for it LOL

FX  Fx impact m4 800mm extended barrel potential....

Hey man, if you add in the Huma v2 power upgrades and their regulator, that gun has true knock down potential. I honestly think it would go straight through a deer's skull at 50+ yards but have not tested theory. And after you add those upgrades, say you slap on a .30 cal barrel, the slugs are almost going supersonic speeds.....
Ok, I’ll note that. I’m planning to go with a Western Rattler .457 for the deer hunting, and an MCAR .457 for reach out and ding ‘em. I’ve been looking for the MCAR in the .510 Hunter configuration but can’t find one. Any thoughts?? Thanks.

Clear objectives in life…..

I've tried deer jerky, the only way I can handle it is DRY, as leave it on the dash of the truck crossing Texas until it's dry dry. Wife ordered some at the N. Grand Canyon Lodge for breakfast, a CHUNK of RARE deer, didn't like the taste. Don't recall trying Elk, or I may have shied away from it because of the deer.

Nice looking gun congrats

N/A  Hammerli AR20 fill adapter?

You should be able to screw the fill fitting into the adapter that allows you to use a foster QD, then attach that to your cylinder to fill.
It should look something like this part

There are different length adapters depending on if you are using a DIN 200 or 300 fill fitting.
Thanks for the photo! Now I get it. Charles

10-18-2024 hunt using the Trigger Sticks

Steve , I purchased 3 Trigger Sticks , short & tall bipods & the tall tripod . I use them for most all my shooting save for across the car hood . Nice Mrod. I like my F&T .22.
Thanks - I should have had Airgun Revisions fabricate the aluminum air tube to match the length of the F&T tube - I like the look and it would've given me a few more shots. Live & learn they say.
