Record distance for me

Last night i got me record long distance on rabbit. The gun vulcan 3hp .30. The slug 59gr zan. The scope dnt tnc 225r. I am a right hand shooter. Right shoulder right eye. The shot was in the dark and left handed shot left shoulder left eye right trigger finger. Was out my office window shooting way to my right hence my boady to gun position all jacked up. The distance was 174 yards ranged with scope. Wind was calmish. So overall im happy and hopefully everyone has good shooting today
Switch hitting 174 yards is NOTHING to sneeze at. Very well done!

Pellet or slug? Overkill or ethical?

It's all the same mostly. I shot rabbits most of my life with a 600 fps 22 shooting crow magnums and they fell over like cards and the pellet passed thru. I've shot rabbits with 23 grain slugs at 1000 fps. It's the same results except the back stop is a bigger worry. Shooting them with 25 cal crow mags is slightly different.

Also short answer no. Pellets that I like are hades, polymags, crow mags(if your gun will shoot them). If you have a gun that can send your pellets actually as fast as you say and it's not the advertising numbers, hybrid slugs do have a dramatic effect because of how they're built and how they dump energy. On the critters ur shooting I haven't seen a big enough terminal performance to justify their cost.

So does wind resistance.

shooting a 15gr slug with a bc of .078+ is a lot easier to put on target than a 16.2gr pellet at the same speed with a BC of .035
Completely agree. The wind is why I shoot slugs to begin with. Where I live it’s always windy….

But it shocks me that I still these these types of debates. Both pellets v. Slugs and “what caliber is the best?” And then I see the responses and wonder how many people responding actually hunt on a regular basis? The answer to both question is actually really simple:

1) the best choice is always “whatever gun you shoot the most accurately and consistency.” The shooter makes the gun. The gun is just the tool.

2) it’s not about caliber or pellets vs slugs… IT’S ABOUT ENERGY TRANSFER. If your pellet or slug is pass through (at reasonable ranges of course) you’re using the wrong ammo. It can definitely be effective but hear me out. If you pass through you are leaving FPE on the table and then you have to worry about your backstop and stuff like that. But that’s universal y’all if you have 50fpe and passing through then you’re not delivering 50fpe on target…. Im shooting at 65fpe… and I hunt squirrels all the way up to coyotes. With doves, rabbits and other things in between. I’m shooting a 32gr slug at 965-970. I only get pass throughs if I’m shooting squirrels at less than 40 yards which is extremely rare for me…I don’t need 65fpe for squirrels but when I hit them they rarely take a single step. Just lay there and twitch because they if my shot isn’t perfect all of that energy is being dumped into the squirrel by decelerating that slug. Whether it’s a pellet of slug does not matter. It’s just the energy transfer.

RTI  RTI Prophet 2 - Help Needed with Trigger Adjustment

@Bimhiq - I have the same problem with my P3! At the moment, it won't cock! I have tried everything including sending Rok pictures of the block along with videos of the action at work. So far, no one - including Rok - has figured out what is going on. I've tried adjusting the cocking rod as well as all the screws in the trigger group used for adjustment... it won't cock. Rok suggested that I send it in for someone to look at that is more knowledgeable than me (plenty out there!)
@Pfddi . Thanks for sharing. Wow... So our problem is baddd.

I don't have access to anyone who is knowledgeable about RTI. It's not a popular product where I live. I grabbed this from a stock of an importer, and there weren't many.

What happened before yours when bad?

And.... Anyone? Please.

RTI  More Mora Fun

The AEA and JTS pellets seem to like a little more speed than the traditional selection. Maybe a little hot at 970-980. I'd be curious to see a target shot at 940fps.

Here are targets I shot Tuesday with AEA 29.5g at 905-915fps.

Rifle was the “grandfather” of Joe’s Mora - an RTI Prophet Performance V1 with .25LR (1:32 twist) barrel.

I was actually testing the JTS 29.63g that were doing so well at 75.

I received the AEAs on Monday and because the weights were so close, I switched to them after an initial JTS Target at 75.

I was freaking ASTONISHED at my initial 75 yards results at 75 with the AEAs. First 10 shots were a single hole - even with me adjusting scope. Next target I adjusted scope after 1st shot was a bit low-left. Next 4 went into .4245” edge to edge hole. Next target at 75 all 10 went into single hole on the bullseye.

So I had to try 100. At 100 my target was in the woods so I could barely see it through the 45X Sightron. It was just going to be a sight in target at 100 as I just guessed 60 clicks up from 75. I aimed at target center cause I couldn’t see well enough for hold offs. I walked up and 10/10 were touching or inside the 1.5” ring with AEA 29.5g at 100 yards. I’d rather be lucky than good, lol.

I’d consider a Mora if I knew for sure that my 5 Prophet barrels would work well in it.

These AEA 29.5s seem darn consistent.

HW97 UPDATE

Yes. Perhaps a Vortek or Macari kit but 700ish fps is perfect for .22 springers. Plus all that leverage with the under lever makes it an all day shooter.
I have a HW97 in .177. It has a Vortek kit and is shooting around 700 fps also. I don’t shoot it often, but it's a great rifle. I have relatives in the NC mountains who like to shoot, and I take the HW97 when we visit. It's perfect for that kind of travel, just grab the rifle and pellets and go!

Snowpeak  Lancer / Snowpeak SP500 .22

Since the sear is rounded off the easiest thing is prolly to just remove trigger spring. For a hair trigger you really need to un-round the sear. Having the added grubscrew 1/8 turn away from slamfire didnt feel much diff than stock IMO aside from pretravel, no hair trigger with just grubscrew.

Shame these went from $47 to $58 in a month.

N/A  O-rings

Buna-N is the most common Material for Pneumatics.

TODI Cured Urethane (Disogrin) is the Best Material you Can buy For Pneumatics. Downside is its mainly available in only AS568 sizes on small QTYs.

We haven't Deep Dived on Kitting For Air Rifles Yet, But you can Source most the items on our Website
i Believe Min Order Amount on our Web is Currently $10 plus Shipping.

GX CS4 'O' rings supplied with new compressor.

I believe what is supplied is far from a complete rebuild kit. If you don’t have leaks I’m guessing you don’t need to change any of them. Bill from target forge has said the piston assemblies on the cs4 really aren’t user serviceable. Whole cylinder replacement drop in kits are available from gx. I think they will be 250 bucks?? Maybe it was 225 ?? Highly doubt with 3 hours that is your problem but just for future reference. What is your dead head time ? What size 3000 cylinder are you filling ? When you fill it what is the start pressure and how long does it take to 3K ?

POI Shift - gun or scope?

Hi BassMan. Sorry to sound like a Nazi interrogator, but the forum members only know what you tell us. So far we know you have multiple guns, some springers and some PCP's -- specific guns unknown. Sounds like you have multiple scopes too, all cheap -- and unknown. We don't know if you swap scopes between guns. You have a POI shift with ALL of your guns. We don't know if you use a bubble level to make sure you're not canting the rifles or if the levels are not tight enough or if your scopes are not tight enough. The list of questions that need to be answered in order to nail down the problem is a long list. I know this is a real downer post, but good detective work is needed. Perhaps if you concentrate on one specific gun and the specifics of it and it's problems and the history of the scope on it (like was it ever used on a scope-destoying springer?). Not trying to bum you out or get you to give up on the forum members for help. So let's start with one specific rifle and full disclosure of what's on it.

stovepipe

Edit: You did mention some specific guns. I apologize for not acknowleging that. But we still need to know more -- like I said.
Another edit: I mis-spoke when I said that you had the POI shift on ALL of your guns. You said MOST not all. Sorry for my mis-quote.

Events  SPARC (Salem,NY) 6/7 Match Cancelled

We just can't catch a break here. The last time this area had totally dry weekend was Nov 16/17 last year, and this weekend will continue that trend. 93% chance of rain Saturday morning so we're going to have to cancel for the second month in a row. I think most of our regular non local shoorers will be at the Mass Rifle Grand Prix anyway, and I wish everyone Good Luck there! Hopefully next month will be dryer!

Quiet backstop

I modified this with a 1/4" thick steel plate & 12" x 12" x 1/2" Felt tile that fits exactly inside. All I needed to do is drill 4 holes to mount the steel plate & felt tile behind the plate as a sound absorber. I wanted something that I could experiment with that I could try with different 12" x 12" materials to absorb and deaden the sound. When shooting my Notos with CPHP at 940 fps at 10 meters it's barely louder that my rubber mulch trap. I barely hear a thud on impact. I hear mostly the paper rip sound. The rifle sound is definitely louder than the impact sound. My Wife says from inside the house it sounds like I'm using a staple gun outside. It's works OK for me I haven't tried the carpet tile I bought. It's easier to clean and collect the used pellets than mulch or putty target traps. I can just use a shop vac to clean it. Downside is that it cost me $100 to build. It also might be big enough to fill it up with seed to make an all in one for you.

This cork/foam board is what I had in mind when I started this. I know some guys who can get some heavy duty felt from a paper mill. I think that might just do the trick.

GX Compressor repair

Things to do/look for
As said above...check valve
Safety valve, make sure no air is leaking there
Test with the deadhead and see if the air bleeds down when you shut it off...if it does, you'll need some soapy water to find the leak. Common spot is under the pressure gauge.

If it doesn't leak down, you may need to clean out the piston and cylinder then regrease it.

If none of the above fixes it. Next thing to look at is replacing the low pressure seal. Easy job to do, and much cheaper than shipping one of those back and forth plus paying labor to repair..

Low pressure seal replacement video below
We do have kits for these on Ebay as well if you need them.
