HW/Weihrauch  Question for HW30 shooters (particularly if they also shoot an HW97)

Stormin-Normin
Strictly hypothetical question: If you had just one air rifle and it was a HW30s in .177 cal, and you used it for plinking and a little target shooting at 25 to 50 yards which Hawke scope would you put on it? (Most of the target shooting would be at 30 yards/)
One gun & One scope - Thanks
Hi Tarheel, I originally put a Hawke Vantage 2-7x32 AO on mine for plinking and targets. I liked the vantage and it worked great to 30 yards or so. When I realized (happily surprised) the HW30S .177 could actually hit a 4” target at 50 yards I kicked myself for getting the Vantage 2-7 because I was certain a higher power would have been better. I bit the bullet and bought a Hawke 4-12x40 AO Airmax and mounted it just a couple weeks ago. What a difference. So if you have the budget for that higher power scope (the vantage also comes in that magnification for a bit less $s), that’s what I’d recommend. lifetime warranty. Word of advice though, if you are not familiar with the “artillery hold” when shooting a Springer I strongly recommend you do some research on YouTube for advice. It will be well worth your time. You will love the HW30 I’m certain. Hope that helps. But if you are on a tight budget the 2-7 would be fine if up to 30 yards is your range with occasional 50. i was using the 2-7 to consistoy hit a 4” target at 50y, but I get pretty darn good groups with the AIRMAX 4-12.

HW/Weihrauch  HW97k stock finish

Personal taste. 😉. Unless your French polishing it ,it will gloss and look like shellac. It dries way to fast and is difficult to work with extended periods. It’s personal preference. . That being said ,what I use may Not be everyone’s mug of beer either. 🤔

That makes sense. (y) I applied a tiny amount at a time and kept rubbing it in until it was virtually dry. I applied around 10 coats that way, and it really brought out the beauty of the wood without giving it a shellacked look.

Bent my Alpha Wolf barrel 🥺/ UPDATED 😁

Where a deviation in windage CAN HAPPEN over increasing distance ?
Is when you have Optics CANT, in that the scopes reticle IS NOT aligned vertical to center of barrel bore.

POA / POI set at a specific distance it does not matter and you won't see the CANT effect if present, but leave that specific distance the shots closer than zero range will go to one side and shots further than zero range will go to the other side and keep going wider further out you shoot..
You witness this ... IT IS CANT ERROR.

A scope that has been optically adjusted with turret for windage correction will align to barrel and send said pellet parallel to the barrel. It is when the optics are not aligned to bore that side/side motion starts shifting with distance.
You can shoot the same distance but use your mildots for example and hold over and under and see the shots run diagonal . Of course you can can't your hold or the can't in the mounting . Straight and true is tough on each side of things . ( Opinion)

N/A  First PCP - FX Impact M4 or Skout EVO?

One recent personal data point here. I bought a pre-owned DRS Classic (.22 cal/600mm) from UA towards the end of September. While I don't know its history or what the original owner did with it, it just didn't shoot well - General poor accuracy with 18.13's and pretty slow muzzle velocity. A little better accuracy with 15.89's, but ES over a 12 shot string was like 40 fps (and that was after burning the first 2-3 really low velocity shots).

Contacted UA for warranty service on 10/9. Same day response from them with a service ticket number. Next day they provided a paid return label. 6 days later (4 business days) I received notification that my gun had been received, and that current lead times for repairs were in the 3-4 week range.

23 days later I received an email that the no-charge warranty work had been completed, and a couple of days later I received the DRS back. They had replaced the reg and the valve components, and since I had mentioned it, had tuned the gun for 18.13 gr pellets.

For someone new to our sport, this may have really seemed to be a long time for warranty service. Especially if it was their only gun. I felt that the communication and turnaround from FX's US Service Center (now Utah Airguns) was great. And all communications were very friendly, upbeat and apologetic - even though I was not the first owner of this gun.

My single data point says that Utah Airguns is doing a very good job as the FX US Service Center.
Can’t beat that. Had the original owner went that route they probably would have avoided the raping they took. Lol.

hBN (Hexagonal Boron Nitride) vs fouling

🍻

VWould you have an explanatory video on how to polish the barrel? I have a Vulcan 3 and I have to constantly clean the barrel, otherwise the shot grouping doesn't work well.

Taipan  . 22 Taipan mutant standard

Mr. Milo is not amused. 😀

I really like my Taipan Vet .25. Perfect for a left hand shooter. My go to critter killer. The rifle is bulletproof.
He actually wanted to go to bed...He sleep's at my feet, This is a temporary bed while our house is being built...Wife sleep's on the sofa. This single wide we are giving to the framing crew who framed our new place. A new shooting range is on my to do list!

RAW Rapid  Always dependable and amazing

I am not spending but a fraction of my time on airguns since reducing my collection from 22 rifles to 5. However, one of the rifles I kept was my Raw .22 Chassis. with the barrel recently modified by Martin to accept the 0db moderator, it consistently shoots sub moa using the 25.4 series pellets.

The squirrels are doing a lot of damage to our landscaping. This afternoon I had it out for a few minutes when a squirrel appeared at about 87 yards. I dialed the Hawke Sidewinder the prescribed 32 clicks and made a perfect quartering shot that went in behind the shoulder and out the back of the skull. It flopped twice and that was it.

I am glad I kept this one in particular. Very low maintenance and deadly accurate.

Discovery Optics HD 5-30x56 SFIR SLT FFP IR-MIL 34 MM tube turret adjustment advice needed

I love my Discovery scope too. Great clarity of glass & crisp clicking. I don't think there would be a problem with setting it up for clicking. Can't advise you on method as I'm mainly a holdover kinda guy too. The 2 guns I'm using that ARE set up for clicking (one mine, one on loan to me) were done by someone else. I'm just reaping the benefits. I'm glad for my holdover skill but "dial-a-kill" is just too cool!

Varmint Knockers .253

The .253 & .254 sized slugs are very popular, especially with the Huben. I have the boattail variety. Mine already come lubed:

Will be testing a custom .250 die tomorrow in one of my presses. Hopefully it works.

Hydra Airgun Pellet Machine installed in the USA

One gigantic IF here......if this is NSA...

Nick and the gang @ NSA have a pretty solid track record of putting out good slugs at a good price. Can't imagine they'd compromise on their hard earned reputation for any reason, even pellets.

What makes me most excited about this is my opinion of past trends of NSA pricing. Seems he prices slugs with the mentality of smaller profit margins made up for by volume of sales, achieving this by keeping prices competitive. The opposite of course is selling fewer units but at higher markups. Hopefully he keeps the same mentality for pellets, again IF this is indeed NSA.

Or, selling 10 widgets @ cost + 10% can be more profitable than selling 2 widgets @ cost + 80% markup.

Nick seems to lean towards the, sell in greater volumes but at less markup, mentality.
