Airgun Technologies  Testing slugs with the VULCAN 3 HP .30

Make sure your chronograph shows good results. I had one a few years ago and it worked properly only on .177 and .22 and every larger calibre gave incorrect readings. Of course, this does not mean that yours is also bad. Greetings
thanks, i have no way to test it, so it might all be just glitches. got even higher numbers on a few shots recently...so maybe the chronograph is junk.

Taipan  Taipan Veteran 2 .25 550mm stock tune?

Not sure if this helps being I have the .25 V2T with a 700mm barrel. But when I talked to Taipan about their regulators, they told me they send them out at 135bars because they found that to be the best all around setting for air consumption and energy. They made no distinction between barrel lengths.

As far as slugs, I’ve been having good luck with Zan 37’s using the single shot loader. Haven’t used the mags yet.

Brian
Thank you for the comment. Yes, I recently bought a .22 Standard version 1 and the regulator was set to 135 bars as well. The .22 Long I bought 4 years ago had the regulator set closer to 150 bars.

Umarex  Cleaning the Umarex Legends BB guns needed?

I have been asked to make a video about cleaning the BB gun M1A1 Umarex. I think; (posted on my studio account on YouTube) only one person asked. The person asked "How do I do it?" There is (are) no video's on it.

I do not think it is that hard and I am not sure and I do not think that there is any real need for it. So I am asking; What about cleaning if it is about Umarex Legends auto fire guns? The sear needs to be oiled and it is not really visible unless one knows where it is and how to properly lubricate the sear to keep it from sticking. The sear is the same on all of the Umarex Legends guns (auto fire) and there are a couple of tricks to it. My MP40 seemed to be dry firing (I have had my MP40 the longest going on 6.6 years now). I oiled the sear and no more dry fires in single or auto. It also happened with my M3a1 grease gun same process no more dry firring.

HW/Weihrauch  HW35 Leather Piston Seal Assembly

Gents, I appreciate your continued input on this! You bring up some interesting points, but it appears to me:

+ The latch rod is in as far as it will go - plus, it's anchored by a hefty pin that goes completely across the piston body.
+ The seal is likewise socked down as far as possible. I was able to turn the nut "out" a bit, but it won't go "in" any farther than where it started.

In spite of this gun's age (built 1980!), to the best of my knowledge what you see is unaltered factory work. I got it in 1988, from a batch of new guns damaged by a flood in a retail shop (stock finish was a mess but metal fine). It was owned for decades by a friend of mine who probably never put 1000 rounds through it. And he's not an "airgun guy" at all - I'm the only one who's ever poked around inside it, and only to fool with lubes and swapping mainsprings. I'm a bit amazed at how new the guts look.

Zero Compromise Scopes

For those worried about alpha glass parallax settings from the standpoint of ranging in field target, you are likely barking up the wrong tree. Most if not all alpha glass is very forgiving on parallax(has a huge depth of field in general on alpha glass), the exact opposite of what you people want when using it to range. It would be more difficult to range using a scopes adjustable parallax with true top tier glass than with just really great glass a tiny step down. The use of ranging with the parallax knob is a rare case when a step down from true top of the line is better in general, but there are likely exceptions.
To date after trying over 20 different scopes, Sightrons S3 does as good or better than any of the other scopes. More predictable and repeatable ranging at 16X. Price point: $800 used if lucky $1650 newish.

FX  went down the rabbit hole new FX M4 .25

HFT: Help kit me out

I haven't shot HFT yet so I'm trying to learn. But I like my 19 fpe P35-177 for pesting around the house. It's taken 14 squirrels for me so far with only one lost because I hit it in the ass. I also have taken 17 with a 22 caliber Prod tuned to about the same fpe. I see essentially no difference in the results between these guns. I do see a little more margin in my 30-50 fpe pcps but a gun around 20 fpe works fine as long as you place the pellet properly, 177 or 22.

A piece of American Airgun history

Stumbled upon this Crosman service manual on eBay. It teaches you how to service 30+ Crosman models. These were the Crosman guns that gave Crosman its awesome reputation for building quality airguns. Back when “made in America” meant MADE in America (not just assembled!). An ode to the good ol’ days.

HW/Weihrauch  Your grandpa's HW 30

So anyway, THIS grandpa had fun working on this and learned a lot! Here's some of the stuff I did...

1. Snugged up the loose front sight, with the help of a thin brass shim (and KWK's tips).
2. Touched up the barrel's scraped-up blueing with Brownell's Oxpho-Blue. This stuff is a revelation - easy to use, looks GREAT.
3. New breech seal courtesy of the previous owner, still working great.
4. The thin wood and shallow steel cup at the front attachment screw are IMHO a weak point of this old design - the deeper fore end on newer guns is much better. I repaired a hairline crack, fortified the inletting around the cup with thin superglue, and used a cork shim under the screw bracket to (theoretically) distribute the load equally.
5. Reconditioned the leather piston seal with an overnight soak in Motorhead's silicone/neatsfoot mix. The leather sprung back nicely and is sealing well so far.
6. Cleaned out the gobs of ancient moly grease mucking up the action.
7. Installed a Maccari spring and guide and buttoned the rear of the piston. Sparingly lubed with moly on the seal sides and piston rear, and a VERY thin coat of tar on the center 2/3 of the spring.
8. Removed open rear sight and added a period-correct "ARH 624" WIlliams peep. Fit was loose and slightly canted, but I've since moved it forward about 1/2" which seems to be OK.
9. Took off the ugly sling swivels, cleaned and waxed the stock (rear swivel stud still looks better than a hole in the wood though!).

Done fooling with it for now! Will post some numbers after I've shot it in a bit, but between the holidays and the weather that might be a while.

Do You Shoot At A "Range"?

Here's an interactive map that you can use all around the country to find a range.

wow. if this is up to date, you might have just helped me locate a shooting club 2 miles from my house. 🤔😃
