N/A  Crazy!!!

Everyone deserves to make a good living, but in the business world, striking a balance between profit and costs is very difficult
The prices will regulate the market. When these companies get too greedy the public will decide how much they really need another air rifle and stop paying the inflated prices. The same thing happened in the early 2000s with the motorcycle market. They out priced themselves out of a good thing. They are practically giving old Harleys away now. Same thing will happen to air guns. Any items that are a hobby has a ceiling price that people will reach then move on to the next new thing. There will always be some that remain in the hobby but as people move on companies will get fewer and fewer. The slotcar craz is another example. Was a huge thing back in the 60s. It is still around but very small following.

Shooting out of window cold weather

If ypu install an exhaust fan on the wall ridge peak vent or a roof vent fan it will pull the cool air in through the shooting port hole and cut down that mirage in the winter, and help cool the shed in summer if need be. It only needs to be pulling a little bit of air to work, and only while actually shooting, so when reloading shut it down and build that heat loss back.up.

Slugs - why use hollow point for target shooting

Hollow point slugs at high subsonic speeds are little different to solid nose high meplat designs when it comes to the aerodynamic drag. As long as the meplat is kept below about 0.6 calibres, the drag is kept low but not much better, if any, than a pointed nose. However, a pointed nose would make a longer slug, so the meplat can be an advantage when there is a length restriction. At high subsonic speeds, anything above around 1050ft/sec, the drag of either a solid or hollow large meplat will be higher than the equivalent length pointed nose giving larger wind effects and increased velocity loss.

If the slug has a large hollow, the centre of gravity will move closer to the back of the slug, reducing gyroscopically stability. This may or may not help with group sizes, depending on the gyroscopic stability factor. Anything less than an Sg of around 1.5 will likely make groups larger through a lack of stability, while anything much above 1.5 will again increase group sizes. Any small changes in stability factor are less likely to have a major effect compared to other factors such as slug barrel matching and gun matching.

Gyroscopic stability is a case where enough is good, more than enough is OK but not as good, and too little is no good.

Score for the old Gauntlet

Subsequent chrono testing reflects JSB 33.95 MK2s @ 790 FPS, SD 3.61, ES 13 for 47 FPE. Topped off tank during multi-PCP Yong Heng fill session last evening, length and weight of Gauntlet still blows my mind. WM
This was my first pcp in .25, I got it shortly after I started working on iguana removal. From there on I started working closely with the owner of the first airgun store in South Florida, AirgunOne Inc. Inside of a pawn shop building with just about everything airgun you could think of from $30 - $1000 with the exception of FX brands and European brands. I started working on my G1 .25 and getting decent power out of it, I always managed to get great accuracy at the time and it was one of the guns I spent more time practice shooting than shooting iguanas. Eventually I tired of the length and got an Akela .22, but my G1 .25 was great out of the box

Griffin Airgun Ammo

From what I have heard there's been different percentages of antimony in batches. The last time I shot any NSA it was .2155 17.5gr out of my cricket 2 45 and those were money,
The recent batches Ill take your word on the slug lead composition. However I'm had to single feed. Many would slide into the breech with almost no resistance up until the breech oring. These would shoot a half inch outside to outside group at 35 .. then thered be 75-105 slugs that were obviously larger and smaller... Some would require so much effort to get into the breech you start to worry about the probe. Some would fall out from the slightest barrel angle up. The ones that were too large is toss if too much effort. Doesn't matter anymore, using the griffins exclusively now

Notos aftermarket moderator options....

Hope it is OK to post this query:

I have a Notos and it is already remarkably quiet stock but I'd love to have it noticeably quite - whisper quiet if possible.

So after all is said and done, what is the easiest way to add a moderator to the Notos to further reduce the sound level effectively? Low cost would be great too. (I ask this assuming that it is not easy to add a 1/2 x 20 UNF to the Notos right?)

Thanks!
Replace the stock insert with a longer one that protrudes past the stock casing. A guy like Graycrait can help you make the selection. Several people can supply the insert, such as Firewalker or TorqueMaster.

All it takes is driving out two pins, replacing the stock insert and putting the pins back.

Just bought a Akela

I got my springs from Crosman, and cut one. After bending the end back flat, I ended up at 2.65, close enough I guess. I still have a couple to experiment with.

I went to the range, and it was shooting JSB 8.4 in the 875-890 range with the power adjuster in the middle, and the hammer adjuster backed all the way out. I turned the power adjuster one mark hotter, and started shooting in the 950 range. That power adjuster is sensitive. I guess I need to try and figure a balance between the hammer spring preload, and the power adjuster.

The gun is accurate for a first test. I tried some old boxed Premiers, a couple of JSBs, and some Kodiaks. Oddly the Kodiaks wouldn't cycle, so I couldn't test them. Trigger is also pretty nice. It seems that when you take up the slack from the first stage, it doesn't run into a bump for the second stage, just fires when you get so far. Might need a little adjustment, or more familiarization. Pretty light pull. I didn't do a full shot string. Also,I was shooting from a bench, and was rather surprised how comfortable it was. I had no issues with the bullpup configuration, or scope placement.

I also had my Brocock Bantam bottlegun with me for comparison. Bantam is much louder, with a heavier trigger pull. Accuracy is pretty close, with the Brocock edging the Akela, but it was first test with the Akela. Both do best with JSB pellets, no surprise there.

I did find a couple mags on Amazon. Thanks to the poster above who mentioned it.

Overall, I am really surprised that the Akela is as nice as it is. Fit and finish isn't on par with the high end guns, but considering the retail price it was way less than half their price, it looks pretty good, and seems like a workhorse. Then you consider I paid $169 for it, and it's a ridiculous value.

Don't look now, but AR seems to have some more .177s for $169, as the "sold out" designation is gone. If you don't get one, you're missing out on the best deal ever. I'm struggling not to get another one. Better hurry!

Starting from Scratch - finding a home for an airgun activities related club

Just spotted this thread and had to check twice to make sure it was not my post. I have gone through all of this and had unbelievable support from the gun club. If you want to contact me feel free.
Basically what I have done was start a Facebook group and post airgun stuff and field target topics every day.
Pick a catch name that indicates your location.
Once you get 20 members find a range with a wooded section they are not able to use.
Approach them with the idea that you want to add to there club. Show them the Facebook group and videos or make a presentation and present it to the board of directors .
The biggest obstacle the board will have is money and manpower.
In my case I offered to pay for 100% and supply all the manpower.
That is the first lesson in sales. Overcome the objections.
You absolutely need insurance and parking lot and a toilet. You can’t get that from a private land owner and the liability it to great.
But gun clubs have chapters . Pistols rifles and shotguns. Just add airguns and you are on your way. The more people you can get the join the gun club the more it helps the club because you are paying for membership and not using there current resources but adding another resource. It’s a win for the club. But you gotta sell it. Then be consistent. If I can make this fly they are very open to expanding and direction resources to the airgun range.
Remember it takes 500 members to get 25 people to do anything and five of them run it all. That’s just how clubs are.
You and I are already in touch on facebook etc

Skout  Indexing Your Barrel?

Yeah this is interesting stuff.

One time in particular I tuned my Thomas HPX for the lowest ES I could but guess what happened - it lost precision by about half at 50y.

I had to start over again and fiddled with it until the precision came back again to a previous level. The ES was decent but not as tight as it was at its highest.

Also I think all these metrics must be balanced together for optimal results.
That might or might not be clocking at TDC or lowest ES, or, or, or...

I used to ladder test my long range centerfires at 330y by adjusting powder weight. Sometimes I'd get 2 or 3 shots touching or close to it, however not all the time was the optimal load the most precise at 100y, but the load was very good/good enough at any distance. Was it the lowest ES, no.
Was it the most precise at 100y, no, but this load was a winner because it was consistently good in all aspects, or in other words the best compromise.
