The Whooper HW77 - Update and Rear Iris Questions

I do have a rubber eyecup laying around. It has a tendency to fall off so I usually leave it off. Guess I can break it back out and give it another shot.

I definitely think a sun shade is in order. A lot of my shooting is outdoors.

Wondering if I want 1.5x or 0x on the diopter part of the sight.

Taipan  .25 Vet 2 Tactical poppet valve

Hello all. Just wanted to share something I did to my V2T that was inspired by @weevil. Thanks for the information. I made a new poppet valve and stem but used titanium instead of steel for the stem and also filed 1mm off the diameter of the stem for 10mm behind the poppet. I used POM instead of PEEK for the poppet because I wasn’t sure if I could be precise enough to polish the poppet face of PEEK. And I have to say, what a PITA to file titanium. I don’t have a mill or lathe, all I have is a decent drill press so everything was done with that and by hand. Drilling perfectly in the center of the POM was a challenge, after that it was trying to stay patient with Diamond and metal files. Stock valve on right, mine on left. I didn’t try to get the contour perfect, I was getting nervous about breaking it. The stock poppet weighs 41.5 gr and the new one is 26.8 gr. Everything is back together and I was able to shoot it today. I need less HST now, about one less revolution minimum to achieve the same FPS but that’s comparing it to warmer temps. Valve dwell seems very fast. The ES and SD are still a bit higher than I’d like but damn it shoots nice. Granted it’s only 47 yards, that’s all I have, but it shoots great. On the left of the target is just initial HST dialing and letting the V2T adjust from going from 68 to 35 degrees. After it settled down, I shot the next 5 groups in a row with two different slugs. The last with the KO’s I think I thought I could just point and shoot so it got a bit loose. Oh, and it’s holding air.
Sorry for the long post.

Edited to add that all the tight groups were 5 shot and I think 8 on the last KO. And I hadn’t polished the seat face yet in the pic.

Beeman  Beeman 2027 Question or 2

I have 2 of the 2027's and a 2028. The 2027 has been very accurate and after a spring change gets about 50 good shots per fill . I put a barrel from Barra on it a 19 incher and at around 2200 psi I get over 900 fps pretty amazing for a 50cc tube on a $120.00 gun. I kept the other one stk in case I ever need parts.
the 2028 had a bad barrel but Because of Ransomy Beeman replace the barrel and it has shot great since. I also have the 1357 and 1358 that also shoot great Those got bought from Manno for $108.oo for the first and $118.oo for the second all of them got a spring change to improve shoot count from the cliff dive they started out as

N/A  Best Resale Value

I think the issues with the used market are as most have posted with the bloated, damn near full price asking...

The other Major issue is how the gun has been treated over its life span .
As some have mentioned, air fill quality is a big one as well as the unknown abuse factor, some used guns have had it pretty rough with the "titty twisting" of every knob and dial on it trying to max the gun out.. Not to mention just lack of basic maintenance .. In turn directly affects the resale

If I buy a used gun I normally ONLY deal with someone I have done business with in the past and know they take care of their stuff like I take care of mine....

HW/Weihrauch  Springer virgin

@Beanflippinclint - Welcome to AGn and HNGD! Excellent choice for your first springer! I suggest trying the .22 H&N Field Target Trophies 553 or 554 head size pellets. They fit nice and tight in the breech. German rifle, German Pellets. I have always had great accuracy with these pellets. Buy them in bulk, you will need them. Pyramid or Airgun Depot (same company, go figure) has decent prices and fast shipping. They work well for target shooting, plinking or pesting.

What kind of optics are you going to use? I am a Hawke scope fanboi. They have nice glass, nice reticles and an awesome lifetime warranty. Athlon scopes are another good choice, the reticle is a little thicker and easier on the eyes. Youtube has tons of videos on scopes. Check out "Cyclops" on youtube, he is an awesome scope reviewer and knows his scopes.

Stock screws are your accuracy enemies until you blue loctite them in place. Have a good set of screw drivers available. The rear trigger screw will come loose and there goes your accuracy, wtf? Yep, anytime accuracy goes to hell, check the stock screws.

These are a heckin' nice screw driver set with excellent bits. This kit has everything needed to keep your stock screws tight. Nice piece of kit.

Use a piece of soft cloth like a cotton handkerchief to provide some slip on the bag and let the rifle do it's thing. These bags are great and made in the Great State of Pennsylvania.

I suggest shooting a few tins out of your rifle and get used to it. They are great rifles and very fun to shoot. I suggest shooting soup cans, they are much more fun than paper when strung up on para cord or wire.

There are tons of vides on tuning Weihrauch rifles and many members here enjoy working on them. Watch a few videos and go from there.

Most of all, have fun with your new rifle. I started with an HW77 and now I have a "few more" springers than I had planned on. They are like potato chips, you cannot eat just one!
Optics I believe I will try to get a hawk if I can afford one, but I like the bug buster compact. I saved my mtc viper connect “damm nice scope” But they say that they’re not springer rated .and it on my quiet 22…. I really do like a red dot for fieldwork but the bug Buster should be enough until I get into any kind of competition then I’ll get a 16 power hawk probably.. I got spoiled with the airgun scopes, I love my MTC connect.

RTI  RTI Dual Reg's (??)

That's a valve dwell time adjustment!
Has nothing to do with a regulator.
Adjusts how fast the valve closes after the shot! That's what makes it extremely adjustable! One reg adjusts from 100 to 200 bar!
The mora has dual reg one in the bottle end is set at 200 bar then you can adjust the other as you wish.

Daystate  Peppermint explosion

I’m using the Side-shot scope cam with GoPro Hero 11 Black. I’m filing slow motion at 120 FPS ( frames per second) in 2.7k resolution.

@Side Shot Corp.
Im in the market for a better action camera, and your video just pushed me over the edge.
Great video!

Single stroke pneumatics rifles

Just weighed the 300 and 600 and shot them some.
The 300U comes in at just under 11lb. The 600 is 10lb 7 oz. Not a huge difference but they do balance differently. The 300 has a post front and the 600 an annular ring (ghost ring) I really prefer the post but shot the smallest 10 shot group with the 600. The difference in shot cycle is HUGE. The 600 is just a pop with no movement or vibration and a hole appears. The 300 is a vibrating ker-chunka and a good bit slower lock time...
Also shot a pretty good group with my R1 and Mendoza Competencia. Hafta say... my Mendoza is my favorite... The trigger is crisp and under a lb and weighs about 6 lb with absolutely perfect ergos for me. A true joy to shoot... about like an R7 but better stock ☺

Mk1 mod 1 eyeball

The use of Mk (mark) and (mod) designations - As in MK1 Mod1 - came about via the military industrial complex during wartime when constant changes to ordnance and its related support equipment was happening at a ridiculous pace.

Did you know you can also upgrade your bodies optical sensors/ eyeballs through training?

Case in point.

We all know that in field target, especially Hft, our scopes 16X magnification level, greatly restricts our ability to accurately range from 35-55 yards. This is also where most of the holdover errors and thus missed shots may occur - at least in my experience.

What you may not know, is you can set up an optical course (courses) and by moving your body closer and further from your course, you can practice and improve your ability to guestimate those dicey distances much better. You can then use your scope to validate your field of vision “guess”, and compare results again and again but you have to move around frequently.

It’s a skill that takes practice and you can start in lots of ways and in various lighting conditions. The more you practice the better you will get!

Haoulimakahikiho - happy new year!! Hawaiian style.
This is exactly what makes good 3D archery shooters in those classes where rangefinders aren’t allowed. I was never as good as the older fellas who could guess yardages down to +/-1 yard, because they had been practicing their whole live at estimating distances.

Using leftovers

So this is mainly for deer, but I also do this to the occasional squirrel I shoot.
I use the animal leftovers for food. Not food for me, but food for my 3 dogs tortilla, pringles, and cheeto:
View attachment 524203

When I am cleaning a deer, I save all the scrap, and cut everything from the bone. I then take all the trim inside, and cut the silver skin, tendons, etc off the meat, and save all the good meat for the people (i just grind it all). All the left over scrap,

I take it and bake at 350 until the connective tissues soften or break down. I then take that, and once its cooled, chop it all into small bits. Not quite mince, but a through but indiscriminate chop. Keep all the congealed fat chopped with it.

Next I take our pressure cooker, and dump in 1 bag of frozen peas, and 1 bag of frozen sliced carrots, and cook that with 4 cups of rice.

Once that is all cooked, I then mix the meat and rice at a 1:2 ratio (i use a half cup and do 2 scoops rice, 1 scoops meat). This makes a serving size for our dogs (50-60lbs each).

Throw that in a sandwich baggie and freeze them all, and defrost as needed in the microwave for meal time. They absolutely love it, it is super healthy for them, and it means almost no waste from processing deer. You can add egg shells, blueberries or strawberries, and lots of other natural things.

This year from 2 deer I harvested, we got almost a months worth of food from doing this process - and the cost was a couple pounds of rice and some frozen veggies - not quite free but a lot less than eukanuba!

I do pretty much same thing...But i just pressure cook vension ...I have tons of free jars..Two pressure cookers at a time for me 14 quarts a pop..My pups do enjoy some fresh vension bones ect in the yard in the winter here..In the warm months canned meat and fresh stuff garden ..
Cheers!

I think I can't hunt anymore

You guys are the club that is three hours away from me. You are in Cupertino correct? You are the closest that I’ve found. I’m in Clovis. There is a local group that shoots rimfire silhouette. They are very friendly and have let me bring my air rifle to one of their meets. Very informal and friendly atmosphere. They only had about 6 other shooters so I think they were happy that I was interested even if I fit bring an air rifle to their rimfire match.😁
