Bulk probe buy 7mm/Artemis Snowpeak/GK1

So the probe arrived today. Only 8 days from ordering to receipt, which is very good. It's as described, and it probably is fine, but it's different enough that I did a few calculations on it to see if I'm substantially increasing my risk by using it. The one I received had a 3.54mm air hole in it. The OEM probe has a 2.5mm hole. The OD of the narrowest section of the QD is 6.18mm, vs the OEM dimension of 6.47mm. The safety margin of the OEM is 46% greater than the AliExpress version, assuming they are made of the same material, which appears to be stainless steel. It's not magnetic, and is likely to be 304. Stainless has a relatively low yield strength, it's comparable to A36 hot rolled steel. I calculate a yield to stress ratio of about 3.7:1 which should be ok, if it's 304 and I did the numbers right. So that's slightly greater than the 3.5:1 recommended.

I'll keep it in reserve, but I can't whole heartedly recommend the probe just because the design is closer to the edge than I feel comfortable with. Think I will machine some out of 1144 steel, mimicking the OEM probes, as the safety margin is nearly 4x greater. (about 14:1 yield to stress ratio). It will keep me off the streets this freezing week.

Match Directors

As the year winds down and a new year is about to begin I would like to give a big " SHOUT OUT " to all of the Match Directors and their assistants who make our sport possible.
They voluntarily give up their time, effort and energy to allow us to enjoy our sport. From clearing the shooting lanes to repair and maintenance of the targets, figuring out the Troyer ratings and setting uo the courses, talking to vendors and sponsors, and dealing with us, the shooters ( must be like herding cats sometimes ) listening to the gripes and complaints of the few, and doing what they can to help promote the sport, I GIVE A BIG THANK YOU TO YOU ALL AND ASK ALL OF MY FELLOW SHOOTERS TO LET YOUR MATCH DIRECTOR KNOW HOW MUCH YOU APPRECIATE THEM NEXT TIME YOU SEE THEM BECAUSE WITHOUT THEM OUR SPORT WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE.
Happy new year to all.

Huben  GK1 “longey”

I heard a rumor that Kelly is working on a “longey”.

I’m probably not the intended audience for that, but seems like some of you may be.
Long air tank unregated versions would need M-baffles inside the air cylinder, that are somehow also attached to the back end (for safety). This is to muffle the shot sound reflection inside the air tube; this might also be a bit like a water hammer effect.
The alternative is a two piece air tube, with the connecting nut in the middle providing a choke point, but this would need a custom part to be made.

I just put this up the other day

El. Cheap-O night vision.

Definitely! It's gotten it's fair share of use, and worth every penny I paid.

I haven't upgraded yet, but have been eyeing the DNT Thermnight for the last few months. With all the predator traffic we've had I can probably convince the SWMBO it's necessary 🤣
I just looked it up. Pretty sweet!

FX superior heavy liner - how tight?

I have an early Superior standard liner in 700 mm.
It is so tight that my 600 mm superior standard liner and the 700 mm superior standard liner shoots same speed.
When the 700 superior Heavy liner came out i bought one of them - its much better - now I can also see the speed increase.

FX  FX Bobcat vs Wildcat Butt Plate

Does anyone happen to know if the butt plates for the Bobcat and Wildcat happen to be the same? I am working with Jake at JB3DPD.com to print me a butt plate with monopod and he already has the Wildcat design.

Or can you tell me the length and width (at the widest) for the wildcat?

Falls into "don't reinvent the wheel" category.

Thanks,
Matt
Btw: nope

Other  Spanish Ladies

Those look good. I would definitely consider one of those if I was in the market for a relatively cheap gun that I didn’t have to worry too much about.
I don’t blame you for giving up on HW ‘s. If mine were breaking springs every week, I would sell them off as well. Sounds like their quality may have gone downhill, (or you had some really bad luck).

Both my HW's are accurate and reliable now. It was a long road I'm telling you. But they are truly worthy rifles.

I just don't shoot them much. The HW97 is a great bench gun or rested on a bipod but it's clumsy to stand and shoot. The HW95 is too pretty to shoot. It's a fantastic rifle but I can't strap it on my pack or carry it in the brush.

I put a kit in the 95, got it shooting great and I haven't picked it up since. I put a new scope on the 97 and there it sits. They are both tack driving accurate and of higher quality than the Cometa. But all I want to do is stand and plink shotgun shells and toy dinosaurs with the cometa.

I'm shooting my springers 250 shots a day for rifle practice. Iron sights and offhand under 75 is where a springer shines. Its truly a learning experience. I'm feeling the limitations in accuracy and range though.

A bench quality rimfire is less invested and more effective for me to hunt and target shoot with. A tack driving rimfire will get me more accuracy, power and range for a few bucks less than a quality springer. And a whole lot less than a PCP. I can use it in a lot more hunting situations too.

Other  Point of impact changes everyday - cold weather?

There can be many things:

- A bad scope.

- Loose rings.

- Bad ammo.

- Not anchoring the cheek properly.

- A bad regulator.

- Barrel loose.

- Need to recrown the barrel.

- Loose stock of the rifle.

- Rifle is not good.

Unfortunately there are good rifles and bad ones, but you need to pay for anyone anyway.
I will check it all. thanks!
