Taipan  Slugs in a .25 Vet 1 S

As far as I know, the Veteran 1 .25 from a few years ago had LW barrel with tight chokes. The more recent ones have unchoked CZ barrels. I'm not sure when they made the transition but guns from the last half of last year have the CZ barrels according to Taipan. The type of barrel you have might be a large contributing factor whether the gun will shoot slugs well or not.

Unofficial-AGN_MonthlyShootingChallenge_Paper-Challenge_2025-May_Preview.jpg

As always, the printable PDF is attached below:

For the "actual target" challenge, there is a whole lot to choose from this month, so be creative!! So, you can shoot some flowers for May Flowers Day, or blow up some walnuts or chocolate chips for this month. Here are some other days that are observed this month to give you some ideas:

So here are some May Holidays:
  • May Flowers (All month...shoot the flowers that you want!!)
  • Paranormal Day (May 3)
  • Star Wars Day (May the fourth be with you!)
  • Cinco de Mayo
  • Have a Coke Day (Or shoot a Coke on May 8th)
  • National Shrimp Day (May 10th) - this could be interesting...
  • Mother's Day (May 11th) - Not sure what to shoot for this, but make a note and take care of Mom
  • Nutty Fudge Day - May 11th - I'd prefer to eat nutty fudge, but you do you...
  • Crouton day (May 13th), this could be fun
  • National apple pie day (Also May 13th) - Pro Tip! - You can pick up an apple pie for a buck from Wal-Mart
  • My birthday, and National Dance like a Chicken Day (This sounds fun on May14th)
  • National Chocolate Chip Day (May 15th)
  • Pizza Party Day (May 16th) - Awesome!!
  • Walnut Day (May 17th)
  • May 17th is also "World Whiskey Day". I like whiskey, myself, so I don't recommend shooting your whiskey
  • World Bee Day (May 20th)
  • National Paperclip Day (May 29th)
As always, for the actual target challenge, please Vote Up your favorite entry by clicking the arrow 🔼 to the right 👉of the post. The entry with the most votes 10 days after the end of the month will be declared the winner, and that shooter gets the associated bragging rights from now until forever!!

It was awesome that we saw more participation last month!! Let me know if you have any suggestions for future contests.

Here is the bragging rights list from last month...

RAW Rapid  Cocking lever is too loose. RAW HM1000x

i believe you were re doing your cf on the barrel , ? if you got the cf just a little far on the breech end it may be holding the barrel from moving deep enough into the receiver and and not allowing you to get the correct tension needed for the cocking lever to snap shut and stay , . the deeper you move the barrel into the receiver the mor tention the cocking lever will have to help it snap shut ! careful not too tight !!! try and remember about what it use to feel like

JTS .25 vs JSB .25 vs AEA .25 ? AGNs thoughts?

Yes, those, like the AEA21.9/JTS 22.07 in .22 cal, are extremely good pellets. Surprising thing about the 29.5 is that its BC is as good as the 34 grain JSB. The .22 version in approx 22 grain has a BC that is actually better than the 25.4 grain RDMs.

Caldwell Lead Sled DFT 2

In the past I had a Caldwell lead sled to zero in my pcp's that is until I read an article that this was not the way to go so, I sold it. Since then, I have used bags and more recently Caldwell precision turret. Both would get me close, but I feel close wasn't enough, so I bought a Caldwell lead sled DFT 2 and looking forward to being spot on once again. The true meaning of "different strokes for different folk's"

My .30cal Karma Red Panda 2 observations

If you have a .30 cal Karma Red Panda, here are 2 things you should know.

First of all, I am not a pro shooter, just a guy with an airgun. So this is just my observations. I think my RP is the best PCP I own and I have 4 other airguns in my stable.

I must have shot over 900 rounds of 10 different .30 cal grain slugs to tune for 200 yard bench rest.
I noticed that the POI would change after adjusting the hammer spring for a series of tuning shots.

I blamed the slugs, regulator #2 setting or hammer spring settings. (I did not blame the shooter) I could not really figure out why my groups would drop and not be consistent. Because the hammer spring indicator is on right side and I shoot from the left side, I did not notice what I will now try to explain.

After 900 shots, I figured it out!

From the factory, the hammer spring tension adjustment was set too low. I noticed that after 5-7 shots the hammer spring adjustment knob would turn almost 1 full revolution in the negative. Meaning a lower hammer spring adjustment.

If you can "very easily" turn or spin the hammer spring adjustment knob to make +/- adjustments, it's set too low. You should feel a firm and positive indexing "click" for each +- movement. Thanks to PJ at Karma, the hammer spring tension adjustment is very easy to do. See at 10:00

There are 4 screws that put pressure on the 4 ball bearings that aid in indexing the hammer spring and to adjust the hammer spring rotation tension.

Hope this helps. Now, I can only blame the "shooter" Your RP hammer spring tension may be adjusted perfectly from the factory, Mine was not.

2nd observation:

There are 2 "pins that connect the cocking lever to what if refer to as the "bolt". One or both of these pins may work themselves loose and fall out. This happen to me twice. See attached pics.

I hope this helps other RP shooters.

FX  Fx king 600 reg issue

Regulator creep, you need to rebuild the regulator.

I haven’t really ever had this issue, but if i did it would not bother me much as i do not have a need for a 100 % first shot, so at the range i would just let it settle back in to the intended pressure, and then start to shoot the shots i would count on.
Thank you, that’s what I thought 💭 I really appreciated.

Huben  The most economical modification of HUBEN GK1 pistol Picatinny solution

@Shane California What’s going on with the off center drilling in this photo?
i did it like this on my GK1 quite a while ago and the off center drilling is to create a cavity for the slightly protruding degassing(?) on top of the block.

Most fpe from my Avenger .25cal slugs

It's a chocked barrel, NSA 26.8-grain slugs and JSB KnockOut 33.5-grain slugs, but testing different weights will help determine the best match for your specific setup.
  • Since the newer Avenger barrels are choked, slug fit matters. If the slug is too tight, it can cause excessive drag, lowering velocity.
  • Try polishing the barrel or testing slightly smaller diameter slugs to see if it improves performance, you will need a chronograph.
They actually fit really tight. Ill try all these ideas this week and let call know how it goes. Thanks everyone
