Events  PSA - Field Target (AAFTA) and Silhouette - June 8, 2025 - Palmyra, PA

The forecast currently shows PM rain on Sunday. We will be keeping an eye on this as we get closer to setup. If the forecast predicts the rain to start in the morning, we may setup everything on the ranges. Otherwise, the plan is for the red and green courses to be setup at sporting clays.

Western Airguns  Walther LGU .177 Out the Box .... Reviewed By English Tuner

I find it interesting that the LGU/LGV is universally loved by owners, highly sought after in the used market, and yet was DQd by the manufacturer. Ditto the ASP20 and the FWB sport, both come and gone. Not an encouraging sign for the high end spring gun market. Glad we still have a few choices left.

Whip will not release from gun after charging.

The Wildcat has a very specific reassembly protocol. Unless you marked the position of the air tube clamps, it likely will not function correctly.
Is Ernest Rowe's Masterclass video the one that you watched?

It's pretty well accepted as a good video to reassemble the rifle.

mike
I was going by his “high power tuning” vid. But il watch and save this one. Thanks a bunch!

SCBA tank, bottle, or portable compressor?

Yeah, I certainly don't need a 5K2. Besides not wanting to wait longer for the K1, I also think getting an overpowered compressor might make it more durable and reliable. And hey, maybe I can start a tank fill business and have it pay for itself! 😆

Funny, if you watch all the Mighty Moose YT videos, he mentions the 5K-1 and 2 could be used to start a busines and fill air guns and tanks to make money.

I think I’ll pass and just hope I can get lucky with 3-5 years with taking great care and not over stressing one.

Best of luck with yours!

Other  Plenums

OK - I can see how there could be value there if going just for higher power out of whatever you have on hand . . . but it is not "universal" in that it does not apply as well to intentional lower power tunes and shooting. I think there (like 500+mm barrelled .22 calibers shooting under 20 FPE as an example) Scott's rule is likely better - at least more usable and applicable. Again, there may be a way to combine them into something even more usable for a "universal" decision guide.

For lower power shooters, I think your observation could be misleading. For example, with your rule, for a given caliber a short barrel needs less plenum than a long barrel, even if the owner wants the short barrel to shoot at higher power and the long barrel at lower power. That's what happens when one ignores actual air usage - that's where I think Scott's guidance is more likely to result in a better tune (at least in terms of air efficiency and likely shot cycle).

Since I'm not one to go where you are testing I'll leave it alone and for you to figure out (I set one of my .25 cals up for over 90 FPE once, but found no good use for it so brought it back down into the 40s). As for the too much plenum observation, I found that on that very gun when I tuned it back down - the ES dropped a good bit when I dropped the plenum volume back into the range of Scott's guidance and retuned the gun for that level.

Peace out . . . moving on . . . happy testing and shooting!
Again, not what I was doing. Whether or not this applies to low or high power was not a criteria. It was, as I have stated, optimizing the volume of a plenum to the volume of a barrel. My objective was, within my small sample, to determine at what point increasing the size of the Plenum provided diminishing returns in energy.

I had ignored plenums for years. When I started playing with AirForce rifles and a Huben MAX-ATH regulator and its 50CC plenum I discovered why they are important.

So I decided to find out just how far you could go with a plenum. Where in fact was the optimal size for a specific caliber and length of barrel.

Whether anyone uses what I've found is up to them. I use the data to set the size of plenum and then use the regulator to set the energy level.

Properly optimized plenum allows for a lot more shots with a given bottle size. Because it allows you to set your regulator pressure to the absolute minimum for whatever power you are looking for.

The example I shared earlier. .25, 25.4gr pellet with consistent 927fps and a regulator at ~1750psi. I put non Huben adjustable regulator on that gun and had to set the reg to, I think, 2400psi to get similar results.

As for low power, no reason an optimized plenum could not be used. Depends on lower bounds of the regulator and the various control mechanism in the gun. I can see where regulated pressure could get too low for the gun to operate. Pretty sure the lower bounds on the Airforce style hammer and tophat guns is below the general poppet style.

But I've never gone the low power route. As I noted the Condor has high flow valve, heavy spring, and heavy hammer. I have 2 setups, the 927fps and ~1100fps. 50cc plenum and 125cc plenum with different reg settings.

Hatsan  Hatsan flash with Huma regulator, max tank pressure effect

Pyramid has the regulated flash, and under its specifications it says 250 bar max fill. I would assume that is the maximum safe fill pressure.
Yeah, probably. 250 bar give me only 38 consistent shots. pellet speed drops after that. So, it is 3 full mag, at 290 bar it is 4 full mag, but I got a bit nervous.

this is a first..AoA

What is the resolution? I just accidentally clicked in the NSA banner and see an announcement on their site that says they’re moving ship and are not taking orders until this week. Dunno how long this announcement has been published.

Looks like they’re sold out of quite a bit of inventory as well.
I believe this announcement was sometime last week after Memorial Day, as I was browsing their site and put a couple different slugs in the cart but never completed the purchase. I just went back on Saturday and noticed they were out of stock and I noticed the announcement they were moving.

I think the "sold out" is because they aren't accepting orders during the move, as if you notice, all ammo on the site is "sold out."

whats the best way to make a dope card for my particular PCP gun and my ammo ?

The $30 amazon reads within a few fps of my FX pocket chrono.
👌 (y) Right there with ya pal. My "discount" chrony has always been within 2-3fps & cheapo rangefinder within a couple yards of units costing hundreds more. It suits my purposes very well. When tuning "blindly" a cheap chrony makes more sense to me than guesswork.

New Nylon6-Carbon Fiber Chassis Stock For FX DRS

really looks great.

with respect to the recoil pad, sometimes the mounting plate can be machined to allow for a variety of axis changes....just a thought.

thinking about other accessories....such as a more capacious plenum...but would this chassis allow for this?

just thinking out loud, amazed and what you can do

Tuning  Regulator Question

Jack,

Thank you for a through and very easy to understand explanation. I think you could ask your questions as "Will it hurt my guns Huma regulator to stay open for an extended period of time?". I cannot see how you could say "yes" to this. The reg remaining open means the spring washers are pushing on the stem they are on hard enough to move the point of that stem off the plastic disc it seals against. These washers are always exerting force on the stem, it is just a question of whether it is enough to move the valve open. I guess there is a chance that the valve staying open for an extended time will kind of "freeze" it in that position but in my mind that wouldn't represent damage done to it. It would either "unfreeze" itself with higher pressure in the main chamber or you might have to take it out and lube it. But either way, the regulator should be fine, there is a chance it might need service. That's my guess anyway.

Jim
