Benjamin  Custom-stocked .25 Marauder find

Similar to some relationships ... if one sides freely giving, the other is without conscious taking.
Sound familiar :cautious:

Agreed, MH.

But to avoid any potential confusion, I consider the AoA/TEXtreme Airgun Sports relationship to be mutually beneficial. So I'll take this opportunity to repeat something I state in every TAS shooters meeting (and elsewhere)-

I can't thank Airguns Of Arizona enough for their original and ongoing sponsorship support; without which TEXtreme Airgun Sports wouldn't even exist.

And FWIW, I consider the (only 10%) reduction of AoA's asking price on the Marauder to be nothing less than robbery...

On my part! 😁

Illuminated reticles at close range

@kwaping Excellent obeservation.

That's a brilliant observation about front-facing reticle glow spooking game! I learned this same lesson the hard way while night hunting raccoons - even the dimmest illumination setting that seems invisible to our eyes can act like a beacon to wary animals.

One trick that worked for me was using electrical tape to reduce the brightness control range, effectively creating a "sub-low" setting below the manufacturer's minimum. Another approach is experimenting with different reticle colors; I've found green at its lowest intensity tends to be less noticeable to prey than red in most conditions.

The most effective solution I've discovered is combining flip-up lens covers with careful positioning to keep the objective angled away from the quarry's approach path. It's amazing how sensitive rodents and other nocturnal animals are to even faint light sources we barely perceive.
@MikeWarner Can you elaborate on how you are using the electrical tape? I don’t follow your explanation on how it is used create a setting below the manufacturer’s lowest illumination setting.

Recommendations on small tanks

Just clarifying that Jack probably means filling the tank in stages for the initial fill from empty. Most folks do top offs in one run, if the tank is not too depleted - say, from 3500-4500 psi or so . . .
Just topped off my 9 liter with a GX cs4i . It took about 1 1/2 hours to go from 3500 to 5000 psi.
I have also filled 6.8 liter and 9 liter bottles from dead empty to 4500 psi in one shot. Took 5 hours
for the 9 liter no problem. GX used to have a 5 hour maximum run time. Gx’s get to their max temperature
within an hour and steadies there. I have added a larger coolant reservoir and radiator to my rig also.

Benjamin  Optimum velocity

Like @JimD says there is no concrete list of rules. It's trial and error, but i would start somewhere around 800 and work my way up till groups fell apart or the gun starts talking (getting wasteful) for pellets if you can send them that speed... Which you should be capable of. One of my guns is happiest below 500 fps being an old pistol with the jsb 18 grain pellets. My impact when it shot pellets seemed to show its best precision at about 900 fps with those.

Just let your rig speak to you, there are signs when they're happy. Do you know whose barrel your mrod has, and is it regulated or not?

HW/Weihrauch  HW50 , the challenge continues

Amen. I replaced a HW55 breech seal decades ago from leather to a new synthetic one. It protruded out so much it caused barrel droop. Many of the factory synthetic breech seals of the 80’s were cut off flush with a razor knife because of to close tolerances. This is a closeup of crows closer. Clearly not tight. Start small then keep going when necessary. View attachment 573885
I didn't actually realize how far off this thing is at first. Sure is hung up by something but a bit like trying to diagnose car (or woman) troubles over the phone.
When I was a mechanic many years ago another guy's tool box had a sticker:
If it has teets 💃 or wheels 🚗
It'll give ya problems 🤔
The HW 55 always had a super close-fitting leather breech seal, with a unique touch: the bottom of its recess is slightly angled - a bit deeper at the top than the bottom. No idea why, or how they machined it! I have successfully put synthetic seals in a couple 55's but it took careful sanding on the inner end.

On the other vintage HW's originally with leather seals (HW 30, 35, 50), the recess is of uniform depth. The plastic seal was in theory a drop-in replacement, but as you note it still pays to check and tweak.

Trivia time: legend has it that HW's plastic breech seal was developed for the rare "Barakuda" ether-boosted rifles, which shredded the leather ones! This is why their seals to this day are a cylinder instead of a simple O-ring, etc. I've also heard the heavy H&N Barakuda pellet was designed for those guns, which originally fired solid balls as they blew right through the heads of lesser diabolo pellets...
Mike is too cool 👍

Tuning  FX King/ Panthera tuning

Will begin with what caliber and barrel length. My basic approach is to work from low setting upwards instead of the other way around. Also the macro wheel really won’t be at the heart of your tune. It will only adjust how much of a range you can turn your optimal tune down. If you have the tune at 915 fps like you want and the macro at max you will be able to tune the speed down quite a bit. If you tune it to that speed with macro set in the middle you can turn it down half as much. I usually set the macro on max and tune to the heaviest projectile I will shoot. Anyway getting way ahead..lol. Start with barrel length and caliber. Also you can pm me your number if you don’t mind discussing it at like 9 pm EST. Drive all night so have lots of time then. 👍

Light direction and ranging accuracy

The Bisley is very secure (nothing else is needed) unless you trim it too much, then you can have issues since it's not on the scope in a meaningful way. There is a very long thick rubber sleeve on the eyecup that helps it naturally align to the eyepiece.

I'll know pretty quick that the eyecup is misaligned, i've seen people blow most of their box time trying to find the proper eye relief or to find a way to block light due to not having an eyecup. An improperly installed or partially falling off eyecup could be even worse than not having one...

I have an unmarked eye cup that has an accordion like section and its demonstrates all the issues you mention in one compact inexpensive product... I recommend the Bisley specifically because it has all the good things going for it...
My Bisley arrived yesterday, and there’s always learnings with new stuff. One thing that surprised and pleased me about it was its benefit in standing and kneeling shots. I hadn’t realized how much time I was wasting holding the gun out while finding eye relief. The eyecup must have easily took a second or two off that which might not sound like much, but it meant that I could get shots off quicker and fell apart on fewer of them.

SEKHMET Gauge Review

Where have you been ? Missing seeing vids from you 😞
I know. I am so far behind on videos. All my time has been pn laughing my new Backyard AirGuns website. Now that it is up, I promise to get back on the videos. I have so many new guns to cover. Thank You for the support. 😁

The past & now!

Same experience here. That yong heng worked fine but it was a whole experience - bucket, hoses, ear protection, some kind of vibration absorbing surface to put it on, and it had to be in the basement or the garage because of the noise. I keep my CS4 in the corner of my living room, such a better experience. I'm not filling tanks so the slower fill rate is not really an issue. The YH was quite a bit faster
All true, won't try to argue, just the same, if my Yong Heng ever gets to the point of no return, I'll replace with another. WM

Three months of new guns

Yeh we have been there. Probably should have a thread as a support group. Airgun anonymous.
I have like my next 3-4 guns/gun builds planned out already and this is still my first pcp 😂😂😂… as much as I like shooting it turns out the tuning part scratches a nerd itch for me haha. Currently trying to convince my friends to buy air guns. “Bro just get a budget gun and let me tune it for you… it’ll be sick.” I might have a problem haha.

Other  PUMPER COMPARISON

Did a comparison of the features on my pumpers. I ranked them on several factors and weighted each factor. Of course, this exercise is very subjective, and results would vary if I did the test again or others. Plus 2 of them had scopes but did not want the work to remove them for this test. The results were surprising. Note that you need Excel to view it, as I couldn't find a way to fit it on a PDF. Note: If you do not have Excel, you can download LibreOffice for free, and it has all the components of Microsoft Office. Excel format is in 97-2003.
