  • Question
Large bore that can accept normal pistol bullets and shoot all copper

I have been looking at airguns for... A long time. Well, I have an older single pump pneumatic target rifle in .177, but this would be a more general use PCP rifle.

I think I might finally jump in. One issue is I am interested in shooting lead free. Actually, specifically copper slugs. The reason for this is I shoot indoors. My plan is to swage them. Probably using a Corbin press. The setup is fairly insane in cost, so I have been avoiding it. I may offer the slugs for sale around cost, including machine cost, to help transfer the investment and allow purchase of copper at higher volumes. It seems like a Corbin press is very low maintenance. As much as I frown on anyone reloading while watching TV, it seems entirely reasonable to swage while doing so, so my labor cost would be minimal.

Anyways, I would also like the option of being able to shoot lead bullwts. I have cast lead bullets before, part of why I want to stay away from it now, but it may come back up. I also know I can buy an absolute ton of lead bullets for next to nothing from people I know who cast as a hobby. I will just have to shoot outside and go through a very very detailed cleaning before shooting indoors again if I switch to lead.

So, this leads me to: are there any airguns that can handle a common firearm bullet? Firearm bullets of the same diameter seem to run a higher volume(longer with no cavity), but pure copper v. Lead should eliminate most of the weight difference.

I know one can shoot 357/9mm soft lead out of some and it will more or less swage to correct size in the barrel since it is so soft. It seems that is less likely to work with a pure copper slug.

I am not terribly worried about barrel wear. I shoot enough volume barrel changes are part of the deal. Despite what I saw posted here in a tangent thread, copper is definitely going to wear a barrel more than lead even if it is substantially softer than steel. An hardened steel ax still dulls when cutting a tree. I am just concerned about squibs and other safety concerns or damage to the airgun.

BRK Ghost .25 Cal

Ok, I've had the Ghost for a little while, prior to today maybe three mags through it. So today I had some time and thought I'd fool around with it and see how it goes.

Here's the setup.
Ghost .25 Cal No Moderator (I have a 0dB just didn't put it on for this.)
JSB King Heavy Diabolo 33.95 Grain.
25 yard Target
ATN 4K Pro (it's not the best daytime scope, I put it on to take care of a critter and then the critter just moved away before I got to it.) Aztec 5.5 x 25 will be going back on soon.
Shooting off a bench on a Caldwell sled (supports the front in the Padded V and the Rear in a Padded U shape.
LabRadar Chrono (sometimes that thing is a bigger pain than it needs to be. You have to shoot really slow between shots and have the mic close. I have the parts for a physical switch just need to solder it up, and their App sucks)
Started with 3,500 PSI in the tank, Regulator is factory set at 140, Dialed the Power Wheel down to 1 (Didn't notice the "min") shot 5 shots at each target from the mag. Refilled after every 5 shots to make sure I was staying above Reg Pressure.

Below is a picture of the 5 shot groups at 25 yards (26 if you want to exact Laser Range Finder).
So looking at the groups below a couple seem to stand out as better than the others. Groups 3, 5, 8, 12, 14, and 18 Seem to be the best to me. If the LabRadar didn't flake on me I would have been able to tell you the Average Speed per Setting at each of the settings. Area 1 = 832-875 Area 2 = 889-903 So out of the 100 shots I took (20 areas @ 5 shots each) I have 36 tracks from the LabRadar.

So the plan from here is to move the target out to 50 yards, replace the ATN 4k Pro with my Aztec, and shoot Setting Numbers 3, 5, 8, 12, 14, 18 and check for accuracy.

I said all that to say this. Once I have a speed at which works out of my rifle, I have the question. Is there a difference between lowering the Reg Pressure and upping the power wheel or increasing Reg pressure and lowering the power wheel? How does/will that effect shot count? With so few pellets through it are we still going to be dealing with Break-In? I've polished the bore (Bore paste), nothing done to the trigger, stock as stock can get.

I'll be repeating this test with the lighter JSB Exact King 25.30 Grain.
I'm off to stuff some old jeans in my Pellet Trap, so the stray cat my wife feeds comes back (or not :ROFLMAO: ;)). And I have to fire up the Young Heng and refill my bottle. I think I need a larger one at this point.

Thanks for any suggestions, pointers, Internet Rumors, et al.

Vintage Benjamin Franklin pump pistol

Hi everyone,
I recently came across a vintage Benjamin Franklin pump air pistol. I’m wondering what year this was made.

Also, how does this exactly operate. Does it need to be cocked while pumping? Or uncocked while pumping. And how many pumps is recommended for a shot?

Thank you.

Leshiy 2 handguard $100 range??

Fellas,

I am looking for a handguard for a 350mm barrel. So under 10". I know about the huma guards but the elevated pic rail will interfere with my scope. The edgun and valkyrie guards are a little more than I want to spend. If anyone has any links to a guard that will fit my budget, it would be greatly appreciated.

Testing AA Field Heavy 10.3 at 50-yards with TX200

Here is the video of my 50-yard test of AA Field Heavy 10.3 grain 4.52mm head sorted at 10.4 grains. I rebuilt the TX200 after about 15,000 rounds. These have typically been one of its favorites. It seems they still are on the list. I posted the target yesterday. Just so folks can see the excitement of shooting paper!

  • Question
long range avenger shooting

just wondering if anyone has a suggestion to stretch out the range of my American tactical liberty nova 22.. I can get 2 inch groups at 160 yards but if I go back to 170 yards I pretty much miss a 24 inch target and it's all over the place.. the liberty nova is a prerunner of the avenger but it only has the tank gauge and the port adjustment like the average x.. so I have tried several different pellets, all similar results.. haven't tried lead rounds yet and I was thinking about trying lead slugs but I don't want to buy a box of ammo that I can't shoot.. does anyone have any suggestions on the caliber for the slugs? any other ideas.. I can easily hit the target with 22 rimfire at 1/4 mile but I really want to stretch out the airgun.. or am I just at it's limit?

Best rifle around $300-400 for hunting squirrels and rabbits?

I've heard about the Weihrauch HW50S and Gamo Urban, but I'm not sure if these are the only options. I'd want something somewhat quiet but effective. Also, what's the best type of air rifle for hunting (i.e. PCP or break barrel)? Sorry, I'm completely new to this type of stuff.
