Airforce  New Talon SS Classic Bottle question

So I bought an airforce talon ss blem directly from airforce on sale for a good price. I have a condor and texan so I'm familiar with the platform. The only thing throwing me for a loop is it says it's a classic series. It says traditional trigger guard and grip but mentions nothing else. The pictures show it without a gauge and make no mention of the spin loc tank. Anyone know the scoop? Thanks

FX  FX liner lock nut (jam nut) sanity check -- how tight?

I know the answer to the question "how tight should my jam nut be" is going to depend on liner length, caliber, fpe at the muzzle, whether the rifle is using o-rings as spacers between the liner and the barrel housing or a carbon fiber spacer instead. There are probably a lot of other things to take into consideration that I'm not even thinking of. And I know that a lot of the answers are going to be given in terms of how many turns after hand tight rather than torque specs -- either one is fine with me. I just need a sanity check.

I've got an fx maverick 30 cal sniper with a 1:18 twist liner and a carbon fiber spacer between the liner and the barrel housing. I'm shooting nsa 54.5 grain slugs at about 950 fps, but might go to 980 fps. Either way that's in the 109 fpe to 116 fpe range. The liner is trying to spin the slug to the right, but if the jam nut is too loose, then the liner will slip (spin) to the left. I want the jam nut to be tight enough to prevent the liner from slipping, but I don't want to bend my liner. I can't really tell if the liner is slipping or not and there doesn't seem to be any way to know for sure.

Currently I'm tightening my jam nut 1/16th of a turn after fully hand tightening, but I'm wondering if that's really enough -- is 1/8th of a turn OK without bending the liner?

The FX motto "not too tight -- not too loose" causes irreversible insanity.

AEA  First pcp air rifle 50 caliber .495

Just got a new pump action pcp air rifle. 50 cal , I actually ordered a 45 cal but someone screwed up and sent a 50. Waiting for it to arrive was torture, so I elected not to go through that part again. They offered to trade it out with a 457 that I actually ordered. I declined. I would like any advice in general about these airguns . Specifically I would like to know a few good slugs for that caliber if anyone knows of any. Now I’m waiting on slugs the place I got the gun is sending me for free, I did get 50 dollars worth of free ammo out of the whole thing. I would like to find something for now, I was considering 50 cal lead balls just so I can shoot this thing. lol it’s killing me I want to shoot it. Thanks for any advice.

  • Question
N/A  Spring compressed

Nitro-piston rifles can stay cocked for some time without damaging the ram. Now a spring being
compressed longer will get damaged. When out hunting, do owners of a springgun wait for the
time to shoot and then load?? Oportunities may not last., cocking the gun makes noise.
Just wondering :)

LCS SK-19 trigger system

Hello Folks, I'm having a problem regarding the LCS SK-19 which I had bought about 9 months ago while visiting the U.S, but I had to dismantle it in order to transport it back home. I can reassemble it otherwise, but there's a part from the trigger system specifically that I can't seem to remember where it goes and in all of the videos that I've checked online, I don't see it in any of them. I reached out to a few companies for help and got nothing, I even reached out to LCS via email and haven't gotten a response yet. I recently reached out to a Youtuber and he suggested that I try out this forum for answers, so please, please any help would be appreciated. I'm practically begging at this point, because it's a brand new gun and I haven't gotten to use it yet. The part that is giving me trouble is No.1 in the picture below. I know where the parts under No. 2 goes, it's Just No. 1 that's the issue.

USFT  Sought guidance on USFT FPS spread - Tim's recommendation worked!

I shoot an unregulated USFT (Hunter #150) in 25 meter heavy varmint (20 FPE max) benchrest.

I can regularly shoot 247+ cards but occasionally I’ll get shots that are 2 to 3 mm high or low which prevent scoring a 250. I’ve traced the problem to variations in muzzle velocity. The POI on the y-axis on average goes up/down 0.17 mm for each FPS swing in muzzle velocity. (This is in line with predictions by Strelok and Chairgun.) Even with tethering to keep reservoir pressure constant, across 60 shots, I can often see an extreme spread of 35 FPS (with SD of 8-10) which implies a y-axis range of 6 mm which is not good for scores.

I’ve tried changing poppets and hammer springs, but I don’t get much change in FPS spread. I wonder if the issue is friction in the trigger mechanism or Hammer spring guide.

This leads me to several questions:

1) What sort of ES and SDs do USFT owners get with their guns, regulated and unregulated/tethered?
2) What ideas do you have for reducing spread?
3) If this involves dissembling and reassembling the trigger section, can you provide any procedure for doing this, or at least any “watchouts” for this? I have not tried to remove the pins holding the trigger assembly in the gun for fear of not being able to reassemble it.

Hoping some of you USFT folks can provide guidance on this problem.

Follow-up: Tim McMurray got back to me. To minimize ES, he recommends maximizing hammer spring tension and using the transfer port restrictor to adjust to desired muzzle velocity. Less hammer spring travel reduces the effect of drag which can vary from shot to shot.

I followed his guidance and based on tethered shot strings of 100+ shots, the standard deviation of muzzle velocity fell from 8.1 FPS with the hammer spring adjuster set 6 turns back from max and no transfer port restrictor, to 4.6 FPS with the hammer spring adjuster set 1 turn from max and the transfer port restrictor closed enough to achieve target velocity. Spreads have tightened significantly as a result of more consistent muzzle velocities.

Airguns with crappy factory mags

What airguns out there would you all like to see some good aftermarket mags for? I'm currently working on the AEA HP/SF lines in all 3 calibers and a couple sizes, but after that I'm looking for my next big project.

If you can't think of mag ideas I'm open to other 3d printed accessory ideas.

So far on my research further list
Hatsan Jet 1/2 and 3 if its compatable with the others
Air Venturi Avenger
JTS Airacuda specifically single shot tray
Red Panda
Macavity MA2
AEA Challenger
Air Arms S410/S510

If I ever see a mag for it in the wild I'll attempt
Bantan Brocock XR
Daystate Revere

  • Question
N/A  Do any PCP rifles have a bleed valve on the plenum to relieve excess pressure?

Are there any PCP rifles that come with a plenum bleed valve (knob or whatever) that would allow the shooter to bleed off excess plenum pressure for those times when the plenum pressure is above the reg setting?

You guys know how the plenum pressure goes up when the ambient temperature goes up -- like you take a shot when it's 60 degrees F and a few hours later you want to take a shot, but the plenum pressure is above your set regulator pressure because the outside temp is now 75 degrees F and the sun came out. You know your shot is going to be low FPS because of the high plenum pressure. So what do you do? If there was a bleed valve on the plenum, you could let a small amount of air out of the plenum and let the regulator bring the plenum pressure back up to normal and then take the shot.

So back to the main question -- are there any PCP rifles that come with a plenum bleed valve?
