There he is. Looks like we were typing at the same time. When I ordered my 30N I emailed and requested a stock with some nice figure. They replied that they would and it was nicely figure but rather gray as I and others have stated. Really like it had no finish. I tried some walnut oil but that did not seem to be filling/sealing the grain so switched to BLO. The walnut oil when wet brought out color, and BLO seems to have preserved it.
I didn’t. I just wiped it down with a soft cloth to remove dust. I actually removed a little bit of saw dust that was still on the wood. Then I just began applying light coats of walnut oil. My stock was really dry and began soaking in the walnut oil right away. At first I was applying a coat every few hours. Then once a day. it’s been about two weeks now. I’m following the footsteps of another member here who told me what he did. He’s a few weeks ahead of me in his process. He told me that he finished off with boiled linseed oil, but I’m not there yet. After just the first few coats of walnut oil my stock lost that grey look and I could see the figure in the wood. I do know that some people finish off the process with a bit of wax. I need to research that still. So you don’t need to sand / strip original finish?
Nice, you need a 777 to complete the collection.
