Events  Some thoughts for match directors or clubs trying to Grow Field Target

Having become long-distance friends (assuming I'm not flattering myself to think so), I put much value in your posts, E. Even more in your opinions and judgement.

And as a tenacious promoter of Field Target since discovering it a couple decades ago, I find your quote above not only quite interesting, but an excellent example of why/how Field Target isn't more popular than it is. That's not a criticism, just an observation.

I've always encouraged the FT-curious to at least attend a match; better yet ENTER one. In either case it seems most that do (either) find what I've described as an old-guys party. I'd say guys-party, was it not for so few younger folks participating.

Regardless, Cavedweller is an excellent example of the kind of fun, spirit, camaraderie and quality human more often than not typical at Field Target events. I'd certainly love to read your post after attending an FT match, E. Consider this an open invitation.

I'll close by taking this opportunity to commend and thank you and Cavedeweller for your contributions to the AGN forum specifically, and airgunning more generally. You guys are gentlemen of the highest order.

Respect,
Ron & Maggyy

P.S.- Maggyy loves the treats you brought her, CD. Consider the TEXtreme match director duly bribed. (y)(y)

Ron, Thanks for the kind words.... it's wisdom keepers like you, who also work the work and walk the walk that make this airgun stuff so much fun!

Thomas Air  Damaged skirts, does it really matter?

Sorry, English is not my native language and I use Google Translate.
The internet is full of videos of people attempting to demonstrate how pellet deformations affect accuracy; few videos actually perform the test scientifically. These are trash videos that just waste your time, or a lifeline for lazy shooters who want the easy way out and want others to give them information that, by pure logic, they can't or don't want.
A pellet only needs to have:
Consistent weight.
Perfect concentricity between the head and the skirt.
The head size should be as identical as possible.
The alloy should be neither too hard nor too soft, so that it can conform to and replicate the rifling of the barrel.
And the skirts shouldn't be terribly damaged. A perfect fit between the pellet head and the barrel is more important than a damaged skirt. The fit of the head will copy and guide the pellet through the barrel, exiting in a straight line. Its concentricity will make it fly in a straight line, and its skirt will seal the air passage to the barrel and provide the exit thrust. If the lead is too hard and the skirt is badly damaged, it won't yield to the air jet and won't seal properly. On the other hand, if the lead is relatively softer, it will yield to the air jet and seal better. It's pure logic; there's no need to beat around the bush. Now, if sorting the pellets one by one and discarding the ones you don't like for whatever reason gives you confidence, go ahead. Here's a video shot in a lab, using low power and probably at 10 meters. The results at that distance are very clear. The greater the distance, the greater the impact aperture.

Thank you your comments and posting that video. It was very interesting to watch.

What pistol did you shoot today

My new range isn't done yet but I sat out there and shot the HW40 with a dot sight yesterday evening.

I shot from here about 18 yards in. I'm hoping for 100 yards when it finished
I dropped a couple vine sprouts, killed 2 wasp, and clipped the wings off of one, religating him to ground troops. My aim at that stuff was about an inch and a quarter hold over.
I set up a can but it was close for the sight setting (30 yards) as I had to aim low for good hits. So I moved it out till I had to aim a tad high, shooting about an inch low.
I got about thirty hits before I was getting board and the mosquitos were packing me off. Dinner was ready anyway.

My trigger is not up to par on the HW40. It is very light and the spring disengages after you pull the first stage. If at that point you don't get a shot it doesn't return the first stage.
Anyone familiar with that issue on the HW40 trigger?

Build yourself a KYL target , you can move it to any distance . challenging target .

HW97 UPDATE

Hw77.. long .. im jealous..😢. Maybe one day .. yes one day ..lol

I personally think that 77 is the better gun in under levers. (Opinion)
77 long is a heavy rifle , the lefty i have (used slightly ) is in .22 and a greenish laminate stock . IF it was .20 i would have it tuned down a bit . Had it for sale @ Midwest show , no takers .

What pistol did you shoot today

Had a go with the Steyr LP50 Compact with MatchDot shootin the JSB 7.33 Match pellets. 25 yards standing offhand with 2 hand hold. Trying to unsee that 6 🫣

I shoot the longer barrel HP version at the maximum 35 yard range in my backyard with a red dot and I’m always amazed with the bench rest accuracy of these pistols.

N/A  Will a gas piston trash a scope like a springer?

Athlon =
when i was into PB's i bought an Athlon scope used and broken turrets ($40 ) thought i would use it as a spotting scope .
i had never heard of Athlon . Got home from the gun show and googled Athlon , saw the lifetime warrantee and that it was in Kansas city so i sent it in on a Monday. the following thursday i got an Email saying my scope was shipped .
Friday i got a brand new scope . I looked it up and to my surprise it is a$550. scope i am still useing that scope on my HW97 springer (4 years now)
Stan in KY .

EaZy Trigger Fill for PCPs

Mike

All my fill whips are Microbore. Have two 39” hoses from Joe B and/or AoA. Air Tanks Plus makes custom lengths up to six feet if needed. All are high quality and pricey, which I don’t mind because it’s HPA.

For my range set up, I need the longer hoses from the shooting bench. Without the eZaY fill trigger, and topping off my guns 8-10 times on average, bleeding the tank that much wastes a lot of air. Both Ed (epg) and I marvel at how much air is saved by using this thing ‘when’ it works. I know because my intervals of having to go to my Dive Shop are longer now using the eZaY.

I agree with others that quality can be much better, especially for $150. I do see your point if I could use a 12” hose, but I need 36-39” at the range. My tank stands up beside my bench.

If it breaks again, I’ll say ‘Uncle’ and put the next $30 towards my 1st new compressor.
save for a compressor ..i just got an Omega air charger ..an old model, but very easy to work on
I didn't know you had to travel 90 min round trip to fill up...as much as we shoot..a compressor is a valid purchase
this is the whip i have for the bench

JTS  Anyone having a moderator clipping problem on Airacuda Max .30 ?

Needless to say, free advice is usually worth what you pay for it. But that said, in my opinion, you should not modify a DONNYFL product. Donnie knows what he's doing and don't think you know more about it than he does. That said, my only experience with three. Airacuda Maxs, and reports from numerous others the crown on those guns is usually defective, and or the alignment of the barrel in the shroud is not correct. Defective guns should be returned to the manufacturer for warranty replacement. If you want to Fat Boy, which I really liked because it's adaptable easily to multi caliber out of the box and it's very effective on most of my guns. If you're interested in buying the fat boy, send me a private message or call me at 646 450 1515

Thomas Air  Damaged skirts, does it really matter?

From my experiences the difference in accuracy from a deformed pellet is negligible. I am sure if you are shooting competitively there could be sufficient variance to cause issues. Then again if you are shooting competitively I am reasonably certain we be having this convo, you would use perfectly formed pellets just for peace of mind.

N/A  Will a gas piston trash a scope like a springer?

Some gas piston guns are harder than their spring counter parts. I think the piston mass might be more important than propulsion method. At 15 fpe an Airmax should be fine. I have like seven or eight of them. So far they're the most durable springer scopes I've found. I've had them survive my RX1 gas gun at 24 fpe.

New to air guns

I am new to Air Rifles. I would like your feed back on recommended first gun. I would like to semi auto used for target practice or hunting. I have been told FX would be the way to go, but no semi auto. I am looking to more of a tactical style. I would appreciate input.
Good advice from all. I'll add IF , you are dead set on a semi, don't discount the Evanix line . The triggers on most semi guns are what they are , "semi triggers".
Veradium Airguns offers guns with adjustable triggers now & they are good people . My AirSpeed is plenty accurate & has a good shot count, but the trigger is
not what I want, someday I'll send it to Brian at V A to have it updated. And, the GX compressors are top notch. I carry a hand pump with me as a field backup.

HW/Weihrauch  I have my HW50 tuned great,at first I hated it because it did not perform the way people were bragging about it.

I've only had mine a couple weeks. Been shooting the 30s since last August. It sure is a lot more work like every has said. Now to make up my mind on a 95 or 97
Also mine is spot on open sights at 10-out to 15 meters. Got lucky maybe but the 30 was too. The FP AG rear sight by Williams works on both.
I have both the 95 and 97. I actually have four 95 family guns and nine other Weihrauchs. My 97K is my least used rifle. It's porky weight and clunky loading keep it in it's case. I shoot seated at a table and maneuvering it's weight to load every shot is less endearing than my lighter rifles.

The accuracy on my 177 97 is excellent but then again so is the accuracy on my 177 95. They flip flop being the 50 yard top dog. It really comes down to which one has a better working tin of pellets.

Thomas Air  Damaged skirts, does it really matter?

AirMaks Arms  Katran Compact in .22 - oh Yeah!

Happy, so happy to share - Katran Compact in .22, oh Yeah! Will try to make this short. I'm down to just one pcp, the L2 350mm in .22. So, I convinced the wife to go from a HW30 springer to the PCP world. Watched the AN classifieds and picked up a fine excellent example of the Katran. Finally, between work, storms, neighbors, and mosquitoes ... just zeroed in with CPHPs. Oh my, this thing is on par if not better than my first pcp, Taipan Veteran 1 Compact in .22. Honestly, I passed really early on when looking at the Katran for my first PCP - odd looking tadpole thing with a potentially wobbly folding stock. I have come away with the same girlish giggly experience I had with my past Vet. I was practically stacking pellets! Now, can't wait for the wife to get out of bed and try out HER first pcp. The Katran Compact with the Optisan scope ... potent combo. I try to do most of my PCP outfitting and research right here on AN and buy in the classifieds for many reasons. Thank you AN community! Norm PS I want it for myself.

EaZy Trigger Fill for PCPs

Hold up...
Did I read that right? Did they recommend to bleed it off after filling the gun? Do they mean bleed the whip between the tank and the EZ? If so, would that not defeat the purpose of the dang thing in the first place?
I must admit... I was one that got suckered into buying an original for $180. If I'm in that big of a hurry to refill the gun and continue shooting I'll just leave the tank tethered. :censored:
As for wasting air... that's why I own compressors. ;)

Maybe I should offer mine up in the classifieds.
No, please read my very first post.

I connect the EZaY fill from my GW and can fill the same gun ( or several others also) as many times as I want “without“ bleeding it after each fill. Here’s an example:

So, I connect my fill hose with EZaY from GW to foster male on my gun. Fill 6-8 times from my regulator setting or higher to desired max fill range. At end of session, I bleed GW ONE time.

Just like in Steve’s AEAC video.

Does that clarify?

N/A  GK1 slow leak

I filled my Gk1 to 32 mpa and let it sit for four days it leaked to 28 mpa. I did the same thing with my other Gk1, it has held at 32mpa. I checked the brass screw underneath the loading gate and there doesn’t appear to be leaking there. Where else should I check?
Buy a can of aerosol leak checker and start spraying around the ends of air tubes, fill points, and if those show nothing put a balloon on the barrel.

Official Thread - Alkin owners - check in!

Question about wiring: the wire from the “control box” has three wires: blue, brown and yellow with green stripe. Blue and brown connected directly to double pole 30 amp breaker in panel. The yellow wire? Does it connect to the white wire (in panel) (neutral)or direct to earth ground?
I just updated my sub panel in my house with 3 conductors and ground wire. Neutral and earth ground are separated in my sub panel but are connected at meter box outside 40’ away.

HW97 UPDATE

Seem like super nice guns. Did they stop making it in the blue laminate stock ? Don’t seem to be able to find that version anywhere.
The HW97k is one of my favorite Weihrauch rifles. Highly recommended. I have seen the laminate stock models offered occasionally at different vendors. Krale and Mundilar will have them in stock, set an email notification. I think I received three or four notifications on different models last year.

Another route is Custom Stocks UK.
