Other  Beginner 10m Air Pistol Men

Hi!

I’m new to the sport but would like to get started on the 10m air pistol. Just moved to the Kansas City area. I don’t think there’s an air pistol range around us.

Dreams of competing in the Olympics.

1. Where can I buy used air pistols? If I wanted to practice at home, is there a pistol that converts between air and electronic?
2. Where can I buy items to set up a home electronic range?
3. How do I look into competitions for mens 10m Air pistol?

Any and all advice would be welcome!

Spring piston rifle scope not holding zero

If a friend showed up with the OP's complains of a moving POI where the airgun had previously demonstrated that it had good accuracy. And assuming that all the hardware is correctly torqued, ammunition is reasonably consistent, the scope parallax is properly set and turrets are not adjusted beyond its range (and "floating" the erector tube), I would assume that the shooter is in consistent in hold or triggering.

Some airguns, particularly springers are very sensitive to hold. Try paying close attention to where and how you grip the rifle and how tight/loosely you hold it. You mentioned a heavy trigger - be sure that you are contacting the trigger the same way each time and that the pull-force is straight back. Follow through on the shot, stay on target until the pellet hits.

Good luck and have fun sorting things out!

Cheers!

Karma  What country manufactures the karma red panda ?

They are made in China, and the outer cardboard box is labeled as such. Karma has been open about where they are made and have mentioned this in some of their videos.

I'm a big fan of manufacturing in the USA and go out of my way to "Buy American", but if you haven't been paying attention, the rest of the world has caught up, and in many ways has surpassed our domestic capabilities. I purchased my Red Panda knowing full well where it was made and have been very satisfied with it to this point. I also own BSA airguns made in England, a Taipan made in Czechoslovakia, a few German made RWS springers, and a RAW, a Benjamin Marauder, and some vintage Crosmans, all made in the USA.

FX  DRS Tactical Tuning Issue

Awesome.

yes, try using much less spring. Theoretically if you go by fx's claim of 78ft lbs max for the 600/25 you should be topping out at 1176 with 25.39 pellets.
I guess I need to back off the hammer, set regulator to 110 or 120bar then adjust the the hammer to get 900fps, hopefully not having a heavier hammer than I do now. There’s only about 15 clicks left before I reach max. I wish I knew the stock plenum pressure on the DRS Tactical, it’s probably lower than the Classic DRS because of the larger plenum volume.

IMO 1-2” @ 35yds is not really “grouping”.

Well then, Annie Oakley, what would you call putting 30 rounds into a hole 2" across? Please deign to tell us. That is if you're not too busy stacking pellets and giving buzz cuts to mosquitos. 😉

Hold-Over or Dial? …Scope Turret Labels - DYI

With a second focal plane scope, as long as you're dialing the turret the magnification doesn't matter. With a SFP scope, holdover WILL change with scope power though.

With a first focal plane scope, holdover AND dialing the turret agree, and that's at any magnification the scope is cable of being turned to.
Wowza.... i learn something new everyday here! Thanks @Franklink Until just now, i thought both clicks and holdovers were affected by magnification in a SFP.
This explains why i was having trouble with my holdovers the other day but when i shifted to clicking i hit the targets... wasn't until many targets into the day i realized my magnification level was on 20 vice 16; of course my holdover dope was created on 16X. Thanks again....

Field Target & 10 Meter Offhand & Risk/Reward Silhouette - Delaware County PA Field & Stream - Sun. 6/29

Yes, the Risk/Reward Silhouette animals are 1/10th scale.

We chose to not set a time limit for the first time doing Risk/Reward Silhouette, to evaluate the actual time used. Five minutes for ten shots seems reasonable.

Mine actually has an exposed wheel on the left side that adjusts the hex head that you’re showing.

MINI REVIEW: Huma Mod 40 Avalanche Moderator (Problem Solved?)

Thanks to Robert for the felt suggestion, which has led to significant improvements, which I also discuss in the second edit of my initial post. It seems the felt allows for a gradual cushioning of the Sig's airflow through the cans, whereas before it was just so much turbulence.

The Sig has no shroud and the barrel is very secure, no whip. I'll be getting more felt and experimenting, thanks for all the advice from everyone here.

Field Target is an arms race.

Sounds like we might need to add some rules to the low price point equipment class. Maybe no competitors with over 2 or maybe 3 years of experience allowed?
What else would make it work to make it easier to enter the game and keep them coming back?
I have 2 ideas, but unfortunately, they're more about changing parts of the game than it is just adding classes - and sadly the cost of which ends up at the club level.

Last time I got into threads like this, I did some (admittedly basic somewhat anecdotal) market research. Between classifieds, and airgun marketplaces that cater to the general airgun community - there are more .22 options available in multiple price tiers than there are in sub-20 (generally .177). Given other posts about increasing popularity of some other higher power sports, and American general 'more power' sentiment - I'd suspect that the vast majority of mid-tier non-Walmart style break-barrel rifles sold are above 20fpe, likely .22. If you just got your new rifle from Pyramyd and want to check out a fun game -- there's a good chance you're over the FPE limit and can't play without buying another gun.

Option 1 is the targets change to meet the needs of the American market. That means replacing a bunch of targets made with metal not designed to get pulverized by high powered rifles. I think there can/should still be an upper limit so people arent out there with an Airforce Texan. That's a cost that is (very understandably) hard to toss out there to a club...probably a few thousand dollars. I dont have the engineering background, but I'd also assume those new targets would end up too heavy and cause some issues with WFTF sub-12 not able to knock em down, so it's a consideration as to why it's not a 'great' idea, but it is AN idea.

Option 2 is setting out a few more easier targets (how many I dont know) just for newer shooters. Lets face it - as high end guns are becoming laser beams, MDs have to keep stretching the limits of the rules on KZ sizes, distances, and positioning to keep the great shooters from consistently cleaning courses and being bored and not showing up to matches. The harder it is for a 15 year pro with a Thomas, the EXPONENTIALLY harder it will ever be for a second year shooter with an Avenger. To keep the golf analogy going - there's ladies/kids tee boxes to make it a little easier. They're not competing in the same class as men's pro. On a lane with a stupid high troyer target, toss in a very reasonable one that noob class replaces that shot with. They're not competing with the experts. Yes, it means clubs have to buy some additional targes AND have to think about course design and manpower with setup. Not an ideal solution, but having 5-8 extra targets in the rotation is a far bit cheaper than replacing 30 or 40 with better steel.

I'm not saying I have the perfect (or even correct) idea. I do think, if we want to get people in, we need to it more accessible to the average person. We need it to be FUN to participate - and ultimately that means the thrill of knocking down enough targets to make it feel like you had a good time on the course, got your money's worth of fun, and didnt waste a day missing 95% of the shots. What that number is - probably need some time and research. Either way, whatever means a good experience for new shooters without making it too boring and easy for the hardcore competitors.

WHat we dont need is people who already own the kit pulling the ladder up behind them and telling new people to pony up a mortgage payment or two or 'learn to suffer through the bad scores' until they can play with the big kids.
