Hogs on Camera

Well My friend is back in Hawaii, he took his Hatsan Flash .22 and his Ruger 10-22 powder burner, Looks like the Hatsan is not powerful enough, it just gave the hogs a bad head ache..... literally.... he switched to the 10-22 and killed 9 hogs so far, he said a .25 or bigger would be needed for air gun hog kill to be effective, so far all the hogs have been 50 to 150 lbs, still more on the property, he's been there for a week, one more week left to his stay.
BTW the Neighbor won't call the cops, he's been using a 30-06 to kill pigs on his property.... so he doesn't mind.;)

Athlon rangecraft pro chronograph p

Is this personal experience? Others report the opposite... that they've had no issues with it picking up other shooters' shots.
Yes, this is MY PERSONAL experience using the Athlon crono during a N50 match @reiffra945 was on the bench next to me and it picked up his rifle as well as mine.

Field Target is an arms race.

On that note, why do we limit distance to 55yds? We have shot out to 75yds with accuracy on FT targets. Again, club level thing I get it. BUt if you wanted to make things harder for experienced shooters, go longer. Length and offhand are the challenge in this game.
Field Target started in the UK where they shoot out to 50 meters or 55 yards to us Colonials. Keeping the different games somewhat similar in format increases the availability of scopes, pellets, and rifles available from manufacturers worldwide.

Instead of going longer, you can just make KZ's smaller. That is the easiest way to increase difficulty, but per AAFTA rules there are limits that you violate. Limits are in place to insure everyone in the US can play by the same rules, but MD's can violate them for local matches.

MINI REVIEW: Huma Mod 40 Avalanche Moderator (Problem Solved?)

Thanks to Robert for the felt suggestion, which has led to significant improvements, which I also discuss in the second edit of my initial post. It seems the felt allows for a gradual cushioning of the Sig's airflow through the cans, whereas before it was just so much turbulence.

The Sig has no shroud and the barrel is very secure, no whip. I'll be getting more felt and experimenting, thanks for all the advice from everyone here.
Sweet glad it helped. The original Huma were Kevlar wrapped sections and way better in my opinion. Definitely way quieter. Wish they still offered those.
I might do some more experimenting with materials on the inside of mine. I used some super shammy material I found in garage. In my head thought it would work good haha. It for sure seemed to soften the sound. No clue how well it’ll hold up. Might have to add some wire mesh.

Utah Airguns

I love Utah Airguns. I've ordered many things from them and always get great customer service. Now that I'm retired I hope to have the time to make a trip there during one of the competition shoots. It would be an awesome trip on the Can Am Spyder with the trailer in tow.

PCP Rifle  WTS HW 100 KTL .22

I have a 2016 HW 100 KTL ,it is tuned at 21fpe with JSB 18s and is laser accurate. It had the small air cylinder, in 2022 I bought the large one from AOA. It comes with both cylinders, 4 mags, degasser, complete reseal kit, and gauge and fittings to adjust the regulator. The scope and mounts are not included.
The gun gets 4 mags per charge ( 56 shots ) on the lg cylinder and 3 on the small and is changeable in field.
Both tanks have marks where I changed the gauges from one to the other but are pretty much covered ( see pic ) and one spot on cheek rest. Other than that it is flawless, holds air great, and extremely accurate, and whisper quiet. Asking 950 shipped . Having trouble downloading pics .Let me know and I can provide what you need. Shipped in hard case
Thanks
Chuck

Karma  Red Panda Air Gauges

I had no issues with the replacement threads on the Sekhmet gauges. For me, the #2 regulator gauge is the most important of the 3 gauges.
Thanks. I used to feel that way when I was tuning (fighting) an FX M3 but now, once tuned I consider it to be "set and forget" with my main concern being the level of the main fill tank so I don't shoot down below the reg.

N/A  Digital/Electronic PCPs - Brands besides Daystate and Skout?

I want to concur with Trucker here and add a couple of things. The velocity can be selected and will work pretty well but there are some limitations without adjusting the reg. Once you get the hang of degassing to adjust the reg, it's not much time to make changes. I have 177, 20, 22, 25, and 30 cal barrels amd probes and going from one caliber to another is a few minutes depending on if you need to move the shroud and changing pellet weight is half a minute or so.
I very much disagree with Steve-I but he can have his opinion. When you first work with a pellet, you might need to spend a little time finding the best velocity but after that, it's just a matter of selecting it. The barrels are fairly heavy and well supported, so harmonics are less of an issue than on some other airguns. They will still be there, just not as dramatic.
The DW is far from perfect, but still pretty darned good if you like the form and especially if experimenting or changing ammo much.
Bob
Thanks. Pretty remarkable - as with most things, there are tradeoffs. The pros on these electronic system are remarkable.

Do you use the factory presents or advanced personal presets? Advanced seem to give better ES once set based on a post I came across.

Karma  Red Panda Air Gauges

Thanks! With a 200cc plenum I know refresh rates are damn quick! Question - when you pulled the stock Karma gauge did it have short threads? My interest is in the other side of the gun replacing the fill gauge. When I degassed and pulled it I noticed the threads were a good 1/8" shorter than other standard gauges.

Coolant leak on on Air Venturi compressor

Bayward, Thanks. I'll do a 50/50 mixture when I refill the coolant tank.
Slicknick, I did a JB Weld repair so we will see how that works. Like you said there is no real water pressure. Air Venturi did reply to my support email and gave me a link to where I can buy the replacement shroud in case the repair does not work.

Now I need to do a Goggle search and see if I can find the torque specs for the cylinder head screws.

Also, do yourself a favor and notice how many seconds it takes for each shot to refresh. You might be in for a big surprise!

Anyone else guilty of tracking a package you've SENT?

I usually track my packages or orders. Sometimes it feels like a watched pot refusing to boil.

It took the USPS 19 days to go from Georgia to Michigan via Florida and Colorado and Indiana a few times.

Pure incompetence.

They really need to privatize the USPS.
I hear ya

New York to Ohio VIA Mobile Alabama last week......

And they wonder why they lose money

Good Riddance

I do not know everyone’s feeling regarding the dreaded windmills.
I do know that thousand of birds are killed everyday.
I do not need them and I hope you don’t.
This one WAS in Solano County, California U-S-A:

They are a blight on the land. They do far more harm than good to the environment

Spring piston rifle scope not holding zero

Loctite everything on a springer and torque to specs with a proper torque wrench. Unfourtunately, what you are seeing can be fairly normal hold sensitivity for a cheap springer.
Got it, thanks! I don’t mind spending the time and learning the discipline. I got this rifle as a tool and at the time couldn’t justify spending much more than the budget I set. That said, I’m starting to wonder if this might turn into a hobby as I keep eyeing these hw77/97 rifles…

FX  Wildcat consistency problems

Well, the saga continues.
Today I tried pellets again, and the extreme spreads went from a low of 16fps for 6 shots, to over 100fps for 15 shots, most were in the 35-50 fps for es???

I'm really losing this battle. I have the hammer screw all the way in, and running it on 5, 6&7. with velocity in the 845fps for setting 5, 880fps for 6 and 900 for 7. I know it's not tuned, but my Impact was very tolerant of being de-tuned. It would be way off tune and shoot a string with an es of 4fps.

When I get time, I'm going to pull the liner and put a different one in. I have another liner for my Crown, that I know shoots very good. The liner in there now, when clean and I push a pellet through it, it is tight at the breech, then very loose in the middle, then of course the choke is tight. My Crown liner seems very consistent until you hit the choke, obviously. We shall see.

Also, next up is to remove the hammer and clean and make sure it's dry and not hanging up on anything.

I ordered a regular pellet probe, so we'll see what that does.

I checked the probe alignment, but a pin probe would seem to be more forgiving in that there is no hole to line up, you simply are ok if it is in far enough to seal on the barrel's breech oring, correct?

I will try the tune, when and if I can get the strange spreads below say 50-60 fps. With the wild spreads I'm getting, there doesn't seem to be much use in trying to tune. I mean, I've had two Impacts, a M3 and an M2 (X), and I had three or four Dreamlines, still have one, and I have a Crown, they are easy as all get out to tune. Heck most of the time, they shoot a bad tune well. Go firgure?

I'm using the standard 11.4gr hammer. HOWEVER, the previous owner had a Huma power tune hammer etc in the gun. I'm wondering if it has the extra power srping in it and that is simply overpowering the whole thing. Still it seems at minimum that it would still shoot more consistent that I'm seeing. I measured the spring and it is 56mm long, 1.4mm wire, 9.87 od and 6.96 id.
I had an issue with the sear scoring the hammer(not the hammer weight!). I was getting wild swings like yours. I spoke with a tech at Utah AG and he advised that this scoring made irregular releases of the hammer and weight. Look closely at the area where the sear touches the hammer.
This issue caused FX to change the hammer to a harder metal so the scoring would be reduced.
