it was shooting a little high, so the next lowest cross hatch under each group was the aim point. I like to shoot two 5 shot groups instead of one 10 shot group so that the wind will have less chance of blowing a group up.where was your aim point in the last picture .
I've thought about it, but I would probably be shooting the same weight of slugs in .25, so I'm not sure there's any point in changing right now. The BCs are the same, and I don't want to go through another round of slug testing.@scotton I like how this write up is coming together. It seems that you’re now invested in .22 however, I wanted to ask - have you looked into a .25 bolt kit and barrel for caliber conversion? As I understand it, the HM1000x .25 caliber conversion kit (barrel and probe assembly) costs around $500 including shipping.
Well, that’s awesome. What are you using to lubricate your slugs.Ohhh okay cool. I didn’t think it was an issue but I wanted to make sure…
The reg is funny. I got the 45gr slugs in and basically the every I nudged the reg up to like 2500psi it would drop down little by little with each shot. Then I’d nudge it back up and it would drop down but not to the same level. Long story short it took awhile to settle but now it’s at 2450psi… shooting 45gr franco slugs at 960fps.
That’s correct just think about it like the barber adjustment on an FXThat's the plenum-to-valve body connection. There's an O-ring in there, so if it isn't leaking, there's no immediate issue.
The other side of the holey part (the valve body) is where my gap was. That is how you coarse-adjust power...controls how far the poppet valve stem sticks out.
What is a DAQ, and Brigand.375 ?Id go with pretty much any DAQ. They're overbuilt, simple to take down and reseal, have a lower fill pressure and hold air forever. I've got a lot of springers, MSPs and pcps but if the stuff hit the fan I'd take the Brigand.375 and a DAQ XL in .22.
Very interesting, but that was the point that I think you were trying to make and that I refer the yes have a little bit too much spraying from the factory, but of course with use it’ll settle down a little bit and then we’ll have more adjustment. Maybe you should try again with a little bit lower pressure on the Reg. Maybe 1600 psi would do it.Tested a lighter Hammer Spring tonight...

Left is the original, right is same dia (5/8" ID) and length (2.75") wire diameter is 0.055". The original is 0.080".
Unfortunately, the new one is also stainless steel, which adds another layer of softness.
I installed the new one and it certainly proved a point...velocity dropped out the bottom, not registering on my chrono with it at its lowest setting. Cranking about halfway up the range finally got me on the chrono @ 450fps (33g pellet). At the highest tension, it topped out at 550fps.
This was all performed with a reg setting of 1900psi, which, with the original spring (at min), ran 870fps with the same pellet.
So...back to hunting a spring that is somewhere in between. If I can match the size, maybe a wire dia ~0.07" would get it done...and not stainless.
Of course, I can install a second spring inside the new one...back to the McMaster-Carr website!
this is 30 yards yesterday , bench TX200 .177 12.25 FPE just playing with a new target i pasted upJonnes may yet prove his position that springers are just as accurate as PCPs but he posted two 200s with PCPs and a 185 he shot with a nice springer. I do not truly know one way or the other but the fact that the scores for springers are not on the 30 yard challenge thread or, to my knowledge, elsewhere suggests PCPs have an advantage when shot from a bench rest. That would not mean springers are not great airguns. I would be happy to be proved wrong but at this point I don't think springers are as accurate from a bench.
Just plain jane UTG high airgun scope mounts. I did put a 0.015 inch shim under the rear ring. Not a perfect set up, but it works. Thanks for the photo. what mount is that and is it adjustable for elevation?

Should springer shooters be shooting the same scores as the pcp shooters in field target?Should? No, why? Could? When you have the balls, yes! Is it fun to outshoot those "lazy" PCP shooters, see those jaws drop when you outshoot them, and feel like an actual boss when you do? HELL YEAH!
According to the postal service, my new shooting bags will arrive today. In the coming days I'll mount the SideWinder to my HW97K and do the last target to see what it does with a better reticle and larger magnification. To be continued...
That's my experience also.
And that my friend, is what shooting springers makes such a s..t load of fun! But springers outshooting PCP's can be done, if and when the shooter plays it's part well. I.e., when the shooter knows how to shoot. That's why I always say; learn (kids) to shoot with a springer, if they can handle that, they can handle practically any type of weapon. From a "lazy" zero-recoil PCP, to a large caliber center fire rifle. Especially now (here in Europe), that might come in handy when those damned Ruskies try to cross our border.
That man is a legend! I've haven't had the privilege yet. Most of us can learn a lot from that man.![]()
