I'm just curious… who was the first person to look at a split open oyster and think "what a nice piece of snot! I'll bet that tastes delicious!"?

Not sure but I'd bet there was a Mom yelling
"Put that down! Oh My God!!! Did you just eat that?"

Was anyone else in the line of totality today? Pretty neat experience.

I was right in the path of totality and we had cloudless skies up here in Maine last week. Pretty cool experience. People are still talking about it.
IMG_20240407_152114.jpg I'm just so happy today for good weather 👍 Getting 50: yards Zero s and chronograph. Crutches are better for bench shooting.. Hopefully get brushog to other property..200 yard range coming soon 🙂 Handicap shooting rig for Texan... lol

I came here totally open-minded and hoping to learn from others with vastly more experience than I have. I have gotten great advice from some folks, and I have found many things that were a great read. What is very disappointing to me is how some brands can be bashed, kicked and driven into the ground to no end and with other brands it is inappropriate to find any fault with them at all. That tends to make me feel like I cannot really trust or believe in much of anything, kind of like politics and politicians. I find it fascinating that when new people to Airgunning come on and ask about guns they can reasonably afford, there will always be people completely ignoring what they said and telling them to buy the most expensive guns made. It's okay, they probably really don't need a scope, ammo or any way to fill it, so sure by all means spend twice as much money as you have on a gun so you can hang it on your wall and enjoy looking at it every day and totally enjoy the fact that it will never break. Well, that's not really true, is it? The Savage 110E wasn't the prettiest gun like Browning, but it would bring home the deer. The cancel culture is totally alive and well and by the way, mine is better than yours and you better believe it.;)

Hello @Chief55

I am sorry that you did not find the "overall" help very friendly and Informative. I am a member of several forums and on all of them, there are those few folks that do not READ a post, but do seems to have the best answer, ..... , even if their answer does not apply. As soon as I start to read a "negative" or "off the topic" reply, I simply go to the next reply 😁 .

There are some products ( guns ) that are not worth buying and it is helpful to get reviews from members. However there are a number of ways to "review" a product and it does not need to be an all out bashing. I personally have had a very bad experience with one particular manufacture ( not the dealer ) and their product which has a serious design flaw.

The "latest and greatest" and or the "most expensive" product is surely not the answer to an individual's personal needs, so it is a matter of simply reading through all of the replies and then deciding what item is best for you.

I have found most of the folks here on this forum to be really nice, friendly and very helpful.

Have a great day,
ThomasT

Airgun s are different from powder burners..even at that 20 years ago you take a savage with a $300.00 benchrest barrel to any match you want..So good barrels apply to airgun s also... My $1100.00 Texan has had multiple failures and required modifications to shoot accurately. My $230.00 Umarex Airsaber will shoot good groups at a 100 yards no modifications... That said I shoot my Texan more... Less steps no arrow removal... Airgun s initial investment high.. Glad to have you here😀

Like all things in life, "just separate the wheat from the chaff". I don't mind a little advice I can't really use or apply for a whole lot of advice that has been helpful & FREE. Thanks to AGN for a Great Airgun Forum.
I was afraid it would end like this.
It seem like this site are not strong enough to carry my presence, and in spite of me greatly improving ( if i have to say so myself ) in the past few decades on other fora, it seem like some of my flaws are pushing rules or peoples or admins buttons too hard.
So after several warnings now and post deletions lately it is probably best if i take my leave.

So i will log out now, and only come here as a reader in the future so as not to aggravate anyone.

Best wishes - lead and wind everyone.

The tone of this board has become one of run scared to say anything lest it offend someone, some agency, or some group. I am close to bailing myself. Lately there isn't much of any value here. Mostly crap about show me yours and I'll show you mine.
boresnake
Its a typical gun site . Best to visit when you need info and then only believe about 20% what's being said. Kinda like gun shops seen too all have a know-it-all they let hang out.

Gents, why take it all so seriously…? Its a hobby to the majority and AGN is a privately owned site. For me, personally? AGN is an escape from the “real world” bullpoop afflicted on the US Citizen by a corrupt Federal Guvmint. Airguns, plinking and pesting help me escape, temporarily that crap…
It is generally not easy to really impress me ( in a good way ) as a person, and i absolutely do not have too high thoughts about my own people in their current state.

BUT ! Some times i am forced to bow my head in respect, for instance to a guy like Asbjørn Bruun.
The guy just finished as the first ever on ski the Iditarod Trail Invitational.

There are people with a team of dogs pulling them that do not finish that race.

Danish guy: Dogs ???? we dont need no stinking dogs.
Peashooter
I have wondered if this guy is one of the Sirius patrol guys, these are the guys that run around northern Greenland summer and winter to put Danish boots on our island in the north.
Where as Americans and Russians might ram their sub up thru the ice, look around and go hell no / Blyiat and then leave again.
you may have been army and been to northern Norway on winter drills, but northern Norway is like a little refrigerator where northern Greenland is like a huge freezer.
And if you have lost your buddy,,,,,, for sure no one will hear you scream, not even if you run around screaming for a few weeks.

The new Danish king he also did Sirius Patrol,,,,, aside for him also being a full blow frogman with the call sign Pingo, so in that way i can respect the guy, CUZ very - very few make it thru Frogman school here.

This is our old boy Jasper, he’s a mix terrier. Unfortunately he doesn’t like the air rifles so he doesn’t participate with Jetty.

Man he is just like my Lilly..She is terrified of.guns also...But she will tolerate a well moderated air rifle..I picked her up.as a stray when I lived in Southern WV...The locals told me she was a fiest cur mix..25 lbs...She is the best hunting dog I ever had..Squirrel, rabbits, mice, moles, and when she young she even ran bears with her mixed breed companion.. Also can ride quad, kayak, tractor, and loader...Airgun s made Lilly happy and I have a hunting companion. I'm sure she was discarded for being gun shy...In the region they pay top dollar for hunting dogs...But the fate of gun shy dogs is a reality...
I'm just so.thankful for the support and kindness of members from this forum. Since joining the forum I've had various health problems.. The days when I'm not good I'm the forum.. It's means A lot to me to able help someone fix there problem.. The support here has really helped me.. So hopefully god willing I might get a 250 yard airgun range done this year....Ill be able to do a little more technical shooting... 😁

Hello @RM.510bigbore
Please keep us up to date on your new range.

My other hobby which I’ve neglected a bit since getting into PCPs. As you can see I need more practice, 12 yards, bare bow, no sights. In the rain, sent a few flu flu arrows with Judo points at an old soccer ball for fun… enjoyed getting reacquainted.

Please replace my previous 40yd Masters Class submission with this one.

Wind conditions were mild ranging from near calm to possibly 3 or 4 mph ranging between 9 - 1 o'clock. Biggest issue was waiting for all three wind-flags to point in the same general direction before each shot.

Wrong place to post this?
Can someone please steer me in the right direction?
I have gone through 3 air pistols as I'm constantly adjusting the sights. They seem to move after shooting a few times. I could just scream! Isn't there a pistol that doesn't need so many adjustments? Help? 😭
rsfrid
I think you'll get answers if you post in the correct forum. Hardly anyone checks this one. Try "General".
beerthief
how can you "go through" a pistol just by adjusting the sights ?

later edit : i get it doh!
HogKiller
It's not the sights, it's the gun. You don't state what range you're shooting at. Break barrels, IMHO, only work when both sights are on the moving part, that moving part required PRECISE alignment each and every time, you aren't getting it. Every moving part, especially the hinge needs to be snug enough to hold alignment but not to much that you can't move it, lubrication helps...A LOT, I'd use a light synthetic or Tri-flow, just a drop on that pivot point. I'm going to assume you rested the gun when sighting in to assure maximum stability. Check the rear sight for play, if it moves well there is part of your issue.

I’ve owned quite a few different brands and types and don’t mind helping if you have questions about airguns.

Well, it's been 2 months into my health effort. Glad to say blood work got cleaned up. Sugar and triglycerides are back down to normal. Lost 50 pounds so far. Thank god for Dr. Berry and the carnivore diet. We'll see how far this journey goes. Hoping to take off another 50!
L.Leon
Good for you, definitely drop the weight… My goal is to die skinny…🤓
Peashooter
Carnivore diet sound alluring, i need to / should really drop like 40 kilos. / 88 pounds.
Blood pressure now as good as it can get, was astronomical.
Cholesterol is being fought with pills as i type, but since i started on those no new blood tests, that will happen in April.

Lying down now, no splitting headaches and no nosebleed.

Outstanding! Congrats on the progress.......
Happy birthday to me. Bought myself a new carry knife — a Protech Godson with Olive wood trim and 154CM steel. I put my own polished edge on it with my Wicked Edge sharpener.

154 cm is a great steel above avg edge retention
Button lock?? or a liner lock?

Happy Birthday…
Finished up a small bowl this weekend and documented it through the process.
Started out with a section of spalted maple that was near too soft to turn.
Inlay1.jpg

Knocked off the corners a bit on the band saw before chucking it up on the lathe and started working to smooth out the bottom a bit.Inlay3.jpg

Inlay4.jpg

After getting the bottom flat, could start to work on the sides.

Inlay5.jpg

Made a tenon...

Inlay6.jpg
and after some clean up to resolve some tear out, turned it around and chucked in the 4 jaw to begin work on hollowing it out

Inlay7.jpg

Inlay9.jpg
Lathered on some sanding sealer quite thick and let it cure for a bit... ended up with a fair amount of free mulch

Inlay8.jpg

Used a parting tool to cut out a channel for an inlay...
Inlay11.jpg

Filled with crushed abalone shells and CA glue.
inlay done.JPG

Did another one as well, but wont bore with the step by step... just the before and after. I still need to do another layer of shell in this one, so it's not completely done.

Need to work on some knives as I'm behind, but wanted to get this wood used before it got too far gone. I have two smaller bowls left from this maple and I'm done with it. This same tree ended up giving me some really nice wood. Here is a couple bowls that came from the same tree I did later last year.

look for a large Canning pressure cooker ,garage sale . turn it into a vac chamber ?
Greenarrow
Well done! I really like those two previous bowls just because of the amazing wood. It’s like finding hidden treasure in woodturning. I enjoy a small Delta MIDI lathe to turn on.

The square bowl was the last project I turned. The other bowl was the first bowl my 11 year old son Sean turned. He really loves wood turning now.
