You're buying two rifles: FX Streamline and FX Wildcat MkII. Calibers?

I think I'd like to wind up with one of each of these two rifles, FX Streamline and FX Wildcat MkII.

One I will use occasionally for pest control and for that, I want .25 caliber.

The other, I will use for plinking, reactive targets, paper targets in the back yard, out to 50 yards. This one I want to be especially quiet. I'm thinking probably .177?

So, which of these two rifles would be the better choice in.25, and which one should be in .177?

I have been thinking the same thing for a long time. Ended up with an Impact X instead with 25 and 22 barrels. Two different guns would be a great setup though I think. I always thought a 25 Wildcat for heavy hitting hunting and a Streamline in 22 for everything else. My old gun was a Royale in 22 and the power wheel is awesome (same as the streamline) massive shot count on low or medium and heaps of power on high. From what I have read the fx guns shine a lot better with 22 and above for some reason. Along with the 22 being a better all round calibre IMO.

I would love to be in your shoes if those two guns were in your near future.

Hi James... thanks for your input. From what you're saying, it sounds like you would go with FX Wildcat in .25 and FX Streamline in .22.

I'd sure be ok with that, if I could get the FX Streamline .22 to be relatively "quiet" as far as not calling too much attention from neighbors. Perhaps .177 isn't a necessary route to "get quiet".

Unless you just really want a .177, I would get them both in .25. I have the Streamline and a Bobcat MK2 in .25 and enjoy them both. Makes it nice to be able to use the same pellets with both and don't have to worry about stocking two calibers. I really like the Bobcat (realize it's not a wildcat) for bench shooting and my streamline is very accurate and a nice gun to carry in the woods, weight wise. The streamline is going to seem long compared to your wildcat, both are pretty light weight as compared to the Bobcat. So you could really use the Wildcat for both functions if you like.

Noise level of my streamline .25 with a donnyFL Sumo is so quiet you think there is just no power to it....OH boy is there! 900+fps on 25.4gr.

Just my 2 cents.

Good dilema to have ? I have had the Streamline in both .25 and .22 and have really enjoyed both. I sold the .25 because it was too long to carry around comfortably. It is the same length as my Maurader but with the 6” Donny Sumo it pushed it over. I have shot hundreds of starlings at night with the .22 at the dairy. When you put it on med/low power with a Sumo, the cows didn’t even know I took a shot until they heard the pellet smack the bird.

I traded a .22 Wildcat to get the Streamline. It had a Huggett on the end that made it sound broken. There was virtually no sound at all. I really liked it but it was just too hard to tell when I was out of pellets in the dark. It was also too much power for pesting at the dairy. I really like my .22 guns to have adjustable power so I can use them in the barns in the winter and crank them up for ground squirrels in the summer.

I think a .25 wildcat compact “warcat” for hunting and a .22 Streamline for backyard fun would be a great combo. I too am awaiting the Dreamline for the adjustable Wildcat version. I just hope its not going to feel gimicky with all the changable stuff. Good luck in your quest. To me that is half the fun.

Depends on what you are hunting. If it's just small stuff birds, chipmunks, squirrels I would go with the Wildcat in .22 with heavy pellets and 30 ftlbs that will take care of small pest. If you are hunting raccoons and groundhogs etc. then I would go .25 on the Wildcat but I personally would buy the compact as the .25 Wildcat is less woods friendly in size. Then the Streamline in .177 for plinking. Though I've never shot one and I don't know how quiet or backyard friendly they are, I would be tempted at a pair of Wildcats myself in different calibers as they don't cost much more than a Streamline and you'll never have a problem reselling a Wildcat if you change your mind. I don't own one but I have shot them and as soon as I can recover from my Impact purchase the Wildcat is on the list.

I’ve owned a .22 Streamline with Hugget, .22 Royal, .22 S510, .25 Crown, and now a .22 WC with A DonnyFL. I’d buy either of your choices in .22 first with a Donny, and I bet it will meet all your needs. My .22 streamline laid waste to everything up to groundhogs just fine, and was about as loud as a stapler. .22 WC is same, and I really don’t miss the power wheel - just more trajectory variables to keep track of. The .25 crown with shroud unextended felt like a Howitzer by comparison, in both sound and power, in my suburban neighborhood.

I have a .22 Streamline with a Weihrauch moderator. It's very quiet, definitely backyard friendly. I like this moderator because it not overly big and looks to be good quality at a reasonable price of around $100. The .22 pellets are a bit bigger than the .177 and are easier to load with old fingers. .177 pellets are a bit cheaper. Both calibers in a SL will have very similar velocity and trajectory so that's not an issue. The .22 will be affected by wind a bit less. If you wanted to sell the SL at some point, .22 would probably be more popular than .177.

I think I’m ready to let go of the idea of .177.

A Streamline .22 with a good moderator can probably get quiet enough fo my backyard needs. And can also offer enough power for humane dispatches of prairie dogs and rabbits.

I’m wondering about moderators now. With the Streamline being a relatively long rifle, I would hope to get a fairly short moderator.

What are known to be the most effective moderators? I read a lot of comments about DonnyL moderators. How would they compare to Trident (which is the only moderator I have any experience with - on my Bantam .25)?
