Tuning Your M3 Tunes Here

I may have posted this twice and if I did, I apologize. Still getting used to posting on the forum:

Shooting with the .25 caliber FX Impact M3 600mm barrel. For all three of the following pellets, the first reg is at 150, the second reg is at 110 and the front valve is at 11.4 mm (whatever that means).

JSB Standard (25.39 gr)

  • Macro wheel: 8
  • Micro wheel: 3

Averaging 945 fps with a SD of 4.63 (95% CI = 941.79 – 948.41) and precision of 0.35%. Nickel-size groups at 50 yards.

WIth the JSB Heavy (33.95 grain):

  • Macro wheel: 16
  • Micro wheel: 4.5

Averaging 862.80 fps with a SD of 11.56 (95% CI = 854.53 – 871.07) and precision of 0.96%. Quarter-size groups at 50 yards.

WIth the H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme (28.24 gr)

  • Macro wheel: 12
  • Micro wheel: 3

Averaging 899.10 fps with a SD of 6.45 (95% CI = 893.27 – 904.61) and precision of 0..5%. Quarter-size groups at 50 yards

Note that the JSB pellets hit in the exact same spot (center bullseye), while the H&N Baracuda hits 2 clicks to the left (but same elevation).

I would appreciate any and all feedback. I am certainly open to suggestions.

FX Impact M3 tune for .177 pellets (don't see many of these calibers out there).

Standard 600 mm barrel and liner, no mods (straight factory setup).

JSB Exact 10.34gr -

Reg. 1: 145 Bar

Reg 2: 55 Bar

Macro: 14

Micro: 1.5

Valve: 4 Lines (as set from factory)

FPS: 860

ES: 3.0 over 125 shots

JSB Monster Regular 13.43gr (Not Redesigned) -

Reg. 1: 145 Bar

Reg 2: 85 Bar

Macro: 16

Micro: 1.5

Valve: 4 Lines (as set from factory)

FPS: 870

ES: 5.0 over 60 shots

JSB Monster Redesigned 13.43gr -

Reg. 1: 150 Bar

Reg 2: 85 Bar

Macro: 16

Micro: 3

Valve: 4 Lines (as set from factory)

FPS: 891

ES: 1.9 over 50 shots

Hope you have the same results as I did. A little tweak might be needed individually but this is a solid starting point. Good Luck.

scratchcoobster, thanks! I got a .177 M3 w/ a 600mm barrel about a month ago. My only variation is that I have the carbon fiber sleeve and the FX DonnyFL moderator. I mainly shoot JSB/Air Arms/FX 10.34 pellets (4.52). Your ES for the 10.34 @ 17 FPE is impressive and I will give that a try! Although I may not mess with the 1st regulator. I asked Ken @ SPAW Weapons to set mine up for 12 and 20 FPE for 10.34 JSB and asked him to do what he could to keep it as quiet as possible for my backyard target shooting. This is how he set it up for me, but my ES's are not nearly close to yours. More around 12 - 20 over 38 shots. I use a FX radar and in my hands and set up on the barrel, I dont get very tight ES values on any of my air guns (Redwolf, M3, Regulated Huntsman, Regulated Marauders), so perhaps it is my shooting environment or my FX radar. Ken reported ES's similar to what you observe.

12 FPE

1st Reg 110

2nd Reg 80

Valve 8.2mm

Macro 1

Micro 1.5

FPS 748, 750, 749, 749, 746

20FPE

1st Reg 110

2nd Reg 80

Valve 8.6mm

Macro 16

Micro 3

FPS 900, 905, 904, 905, 906

I've found that shooting around 15FPE works well for me in terms of group size and stealth.

Greetings from Sweden!

In a few days my new gun is finally arriving to me, M3 600mm .22

Have anyone of you with the same specs found any tunes that you are satisfied with?

Initially im planning to try out the FX Hybrid slugs?

I thought i would find more tunes on the internet but it seems that 700mm barrel and 25/18gr pellets is more common. I guess the tunes is about the same for the 700mm barrel but it would be interresting to hear from you all.

/K

Hello Everyone,

After much tinkering (3+ weeks) I wanted to finally share what I have for:

25 cal 700MM barrel with the standard liner with port set to slug ( more airflow)- standard pellet probe

JSB Diablo Exact King 25.39g

R1 - 150

R2 - 90

Macro = 16

Micro = 4.5

Valve = 0.3600mm

fps = 880

Before adjusting the valve I set it 4+ rings out with initial velocity at 970 fps. After slowly adjusting and what seemed like eternity, the groups went from 1+in @25y to what is now a single hole, I checked once more the velocity to find it @880 (+ or - 5fps).

If I may offer advice to a new M3 owner (like myself)-- persevere. It may take hundreds or even thousands of shots to get exactly what you want (mine did) but keep on keeping on as I promise you'll find it-- just when you're about to throw in the towel - you'll hear that heavenly choir sing "ahhhhhhh".

@kcchayes Thanks, are you saying that you kept the factory settings for the Regulators, Macro and Micro and only adjusted the valve? Mine came with Macro set to 16, Micro 4.5 and Valve at 4. I'd like to tighten up my groups, obviously, so should I work on the valve setting for now?

Hey @scratchcoobster, That's a great question! I played so much with my regs and settings that I couldn't tell you what they were when I started. After so much tinkering, I had to search and find that only the front reg "should" remain at factory settings (150 bar) so that's where I went back too. The manual showed the second reg for pellets should be on or at 90 bar. At first I said to myself that "I can do better than 90" and began creeping from 90 o 100 then 110 and 120-- all that to find that the manual had it right to start with (90 bar) IF that's a BIG IF- you are interested in precision and accuracy. As for the Macro and Micro, play with these to ensure that you're tuned to the "knee" of the power curve. It just so happened that my "knee" was at 16/ 4.5... There are a few great references on this site regarding the idea of the "knee". In a nutshell it is where maximum fps can be attained at any particular regulator setting before it starts to go down. The "knee" is the term used to describe a point in a graph (the apex) as its shape resembles (you guessed it) a knee. Once you have verified the knee of your projectile using a chrony, that's the settings you should use. If you decide to change any regulator pressure, you'll need to find that knee once more.

With these settings in place back your valve adjuster out past line 4 at a minimum (line 4 is usually a solid reference and the reason it is used - no other reason). Once these are in place begin to sling lead at a cadence of 3-5 shot groups. Between each group turn that valve adjuster small increments (say 1/10 of a rotation) in the direction that would "tighten" it (so you would be going from line 4 to 3 to 2 etc but in small steps). It will take some time and a LOT of shot groups but eventually you'll notice the groups going from 1inch + to smaller and smaller...Ultimately you'll see a 5 shot group in a single hole.

To be completely honest, I think that the valve adjuster has more impact on group size than any other adjustment you can make. If you're not finding that single hole group and you've worked the valve from 4+ down to 1 or less, the next step is to increase the second reg 10 bar and do it all over again (back out the valve to 4+/ find the knee/ work the valve inward in small increments). It is no doubt a time consuming process but that's part of the fun and making the rifle yours.

Hope this helps-

Guys please correct me if I'm wrong
