I’ve been thinking about going the slug route but I have an older Gen. 1 Impact .25 w/ a 600 mm barrel. In its present config it probably wouldn’t get slugs up to their preferred speed

As I see it there are a couple of options.

So what would you do?

Buy a Huma high pressure regulator, buy a 700 mm slug liner, get a heavier hammer and spring and get an after market larger plenum?

OR.....

sell the Gen 1 and get a Gen. 2 with the slug liner?

I do have a 600 mm pellet liner for the Gen. 1 which would allow me to switch back and forth to pellets but what I’ve heard is the slug liner also shoots pellets quite well.

I’d be interested in another opinion as I seem to be having a difficult time making up my mind.

Thanks

Hi Kp. I started with one of the very first batch of Impacts and just kept updating. I even updated the trigger block when the X came out with the new reg. Now it’s changed again since then.

Im happy to have done it that way. Have a few more updates planned with the new larger plenum. I’ve found FX are very reasonable with the price of parts to update. It my be worth making a list of the parts you need to get to full Mk11 specification and compare to what it will cost to sell and buy new.

The huma regulator may mean you don’t both with the trigger block but see what that might cost. You might be surprised.

What velocity are you getting with the 33.95 JSB’s? I tested a lot of slugs in the 600mm slug liner. They range in weight from 25.4gr on up past 45gr. in .25 caliber. It really depends on what kind of power you get with your gun and what slugs you want to shoot. The slugs that I got shooting best with the 600mm liner were the 30.5gr, 31.5gr, 32.8gr, and the 34.0gr. When my 700mm liner I’m going to try those but go quite a bit heavier too. Buy a slug liner in the length you want, I’d recommend 700mm and try shooting them before you spend money retrofitting your gun. If you decide to upgrade your gun for more power, you’ll already have the slug liner.

So if you shot the 30.5, 31.5 or 32.8 grain you’d be getting over 900fps. You could turn your reg. up to 150BAR and get even more velocity. I have all the numbers written down at home... the velocities of all the slugs with my reg. set at both 140 and 150BAR shooting the Crown with the 600mm liner. If you want, I can shoot them to you this evening. Like I said, I’m not sure what weights you want to shoot or if you’ll want the 600mm or 700mm liner. With the 700mm liner and a slug like the 32.8gr at 150BAR, I’d guess you could get it shooting around 925+ fps. And you’d benefit from a BC of .071 or so.

Stoti,

Sorry I was tied up the other night. Just now able to check the site. I’d like to see the numbers so if you’d like to message them to me that would be great.

Not sure yet but I probably should invest in the 700 mm setup. I could sell the 600 mm pellet liner but it is really shooting good.

Will give this some thought and take my time. Glad I waited because apparently according to Matt Dubbers slug video they tweaked the slug line to shoot better

Thanks for the input

John, I think a lot of people are getting good results in the 900’s. But I’ll probably test a lot of speeds when I get there.
