Yong Heng heating up too fast

Hi all,

I know I’ve been posting a lot, it’s because I’m kinda new to this compressor and the fancy PCP stuff, but anyways, my coalescing filter came in the mail today, and it works great, but it takes my YH compressor ages to fully pressurize the line and filter. I’ve gotten it to 2000 psi on my BSA superten’s bottle before having to purge the air because the compressor is getting to 50C in under 45 seconds. I have a 5 gal bucket filled half way with cool water, and I know the water cooler is working well, because the compressor cools down from 50C to 20C in about a minute.
Any help or suggestions on how to help keep my YH cool would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, PlinkForFun

I just got my YH yesterday & have filled a 30 minute & 60 minute SCBA tank to 4200psi. Works like a charm BUT I have an aquarium pump that has better gpm (gallons per minute) output than the pump that came with the YH and I have a full size floor fan on HI speed blowing on the compressor also. I do add 4 frozen bottles of water to chill the water in my 5 gal bucket & when I'm done just put them back in the freezer for next time. Going to add antifreeze & water wetter in the next couple days too. All advice I've gotten says to do everything we can to keep it running cool as possible.

You might want to check for leaks. I got my $298.00 dollar Yong Heng a few days ago, and I also purchased that big gold coalescing filter as well. When I turn on the compressor it takes no longer than 4 minutes to pressurize the coalescing filter up to 150 bar. Might be closer to 3 minutes actually. The first time I used the compressor, once my bottle got to approx 200 bar, it really did not move pass that point. As it turned out, I had a small leak in one of my fittings. Also, I use a 5 gallon Lowes bucket, half full of water, then I put a gallon milk bottle with frozen water inside the bucket, along with some ice from the fridge icemaker. I ran the compressor for 20 minutes today, it never got above 52C. I also went to HomeDepot and got the Ridgid water pump (its located in the tile section of home depot), it was 27 bucks, and pushes 50 gallons per hour.

edited - i actually got the RIDGID #AC11306 pump (not the Ryobi). It is rated for 50gpm and is twice the size of the Yong Heng pump, and it has a grounded plug, safer. Also, there is no chance of the plastic tube fitting coming loose or falling off while in use.

I actually had a leak on one of the fittings which I fixed, but it’s still pretty slow. For me, the compressor will pressurize the line to 2000 psi in about a minute, but around there it’s at about 55C. I was actually thinking about a bigger water pump. Does it make a huge difference? If so I’ll have to go get one.

It can't hurt but I do not believe it is needed. I've used the pump that came with the YH for a long time. Ice added to the water and a good high volume air flow across the cylinders do more for cooling, IMO. I do have my return line above water reservoir surface so I can see with a glance that it is flowing. With the above conditions mine never got above upper 40's.

Antifreeze is NOT a good heat conductor. It will actually reduce the cooling effect. Its job is to prevent corrosion Water Wetter does help. It is a water softening additive and may also prevent corrosion.

I blow the lines free of water each time I use the pump and use highly filtered water in the bucket.
