Anyone NOT run their Yong Heng for a short period unloaded before using it to pressurize anything?  If so, was there any known or perceived negative effect so far.

I put synthetic oil into mine and went straight to filling a Daystate 460CC bottle.  I simply didn't think about a break in period and so far after numerous fills and oil changes, it seems to be just fine.

There are two schools of thought on break in periods for piston devices.  One is slow and easy and the other is "like you stole it."

I recall a model of Suzuki motorcycles that had oil bypass and compression problems here in the U.S. but not so much in Europe.  They found the reason was that most U.S. owned bikes were broken in soft.  In Europe, most were wheeled out of the showroom and ran hard from that point on.  The pistons on those bikes mated as they should with the cylinder walls and didn't leak.

A topic like this could inspire some interesting debate.

I never really "broke" mine in running it unloaded. I just started using it but I only use it to fill my airguns directly, so it only runs for about 1-3 minutes max at a time depending on the rifle. The only thing I did was change the oil after the first 20 minutes, then again after another 20 minutes, now about 40 to 60 minutes run time interval. Mine is running like a champ for it's intended purpose.

I broke mine in, but also had a light tight spot. I think it is a good idea on these compressors as we know china QC is not what ours is.
