Yong Heng #2 got a new rod and it's happy again.

Well the piston set arrived for Yong Heng #2. This is the one with bad QC from the factory and I had to replace the 2nd stage piston on it, as it disintegrated, after only two months of use. Then I fergot to put oil in it and filled my Impact with it with no oil in the crankcase. After that I put the oil in and it ran fine for a year or so. It was getting noisy so I purchased a new piston set, then stole the rod off of it and put it in yesterday. The old rod was a bit loose but not too bad and most of the noise was still there when I fired it up after the repair. Guess I fergot to tighten the top cover screws down as most were loose. (embarrassed emoji) The one leak it now had, after the repair, only required me to tighten up one of the stainless lines and it stopped immediately. So, new rod and tightened screws so no more horrible noise and it's good to go again.

In the meantime, for the two weeks I waited on the piston and gaskets from the Land of the Virus, I managed to find the last leak in the good deeds compressor, a name the evil thing really does not deserve, so I fixed it and used it to fill my tanks and guns.

Interestingly I seized the piston rod as well back in November in the same way running the YH way too long w/o oil.

That was my first service on the compressor. I replaced the entire compressor head (kit) to a new state, and when I turn it on for first time it had big friction between parts (piston-cylinder) and it was kicking out the breakers in my basement. I had to cheat the 110V from two breakers and finally make a proper burn-in, after some ten minutes I could even hear the noise has changed and started running smoother.

Right next day snowfall and busy schedules and a mix all the way to NewYear, and ended up just sitting in my basement cannot go shooting probably until April. This just reminded me to order a new kit from ali, just to make sure....

Yup, we is both bad evil men mistreating the poor innocent Yong Hengs in this way. ;^)

Caught mine before it seized though it did start to labor a bit and that is when I figured out that I forgot the oil. Caught it just in time. I was really surprised it ran after I added the oil. Only the slightest wear on the crank but I still would have replaced it if I could have found one.

Next time I will just replace the whole upper compressor unit, like you did, as it would be easier than fighting with all of the leaks.

No shooting for several months? Ouch! I got many pistols in the basement they keep me sane, but just barely, when I don't get out enough.

This last weekend it was -30C, next day -4C and we got about 35cm snow, today back to -24C again. The Temp fluctuates a lot but all subzero with nasty winds.

Right after NewYear I was working in my heated garage cutting laminates for my basement flooring project and I didn't even feel the cold right away but ended up in emergency over weekend with bad bleeding. I learned in worst possible way to be afraid of a cold with 62 yo ;( Now I am locked in a house - doing absolutely nothing no lifting no running up and down stairs, just sitting or laying until I heal the lower ubd....this the price not caring on time.

You know what I find funny here. Not poking fun at you guys in any way, so don,t take it that way. But I hear over & over from all forms how good YH compressors are.

But on average we are talking 2 years before a rebuild, depending on how much a guy shoots. We are programed to think that is a good thing. Now I know $300 compressor

is cheap by todays standard . I also know the parts are not that costly. But in the future will low cost compressors be better quality & we will look back & think what was I thinking

back then. I hope so. I remember when a car made it to 100000 miles we thought wow. Now we think what junk. What brought me to thinking about I was on YouTube reading

all the things people are doing to make these compressors more reliable. Then I come here & read your post. I think you guy know where I,m coming from on this topic.

You know....these YHs are so easy to repair and rebuild. The parts are plentiful and cheap to do so. The compressor itself is cheap in comparison to many other alternatives out there. So the way I figure it, if you need to rebuild or repair every couple of years or so it's still a really good deal from a financial stand point. I have already ordered numerous spare parts for mine so that when the situation arises and it's time to over haul or repair I'll be ready and not down.

I know I'm working on one my self as we speak. But to enjoy this hobby you must be willing to work on this kind a thing. I,m a retired tool @ die maker @ enjoy

fixing and making stuff. My point this hobby is not for every one. I,m still learning & having a ball doing this.I ,m looking forward for warm weather for I want to

tune my 357 AEA big bore challenger. I,m also making a motorized hand pump. Oh well just rambling. Maybe one of you can tell me how to post pic,s of my

Motorized hand pump I m going to start on this weekend. I will gladly post pi c,s.

Yup we is baaa...d boys alright. Ya posed to put oil in the crankcase before you fill your tanks. And on top of that you are also posed to turn the water pump on so they don't smoke and burn up. ;^)

I am really surprised mine lasted for a year after I mistreated it so badly. The overheats, I subjected my first one to, were really over the top but once again it lasted a full year and then some after the punishment I gave it. Actually it was still running just fine when I retired it cause it was an early model with a weak piston and I figured I was running on borrowed time.

It looks to me like they be good, for the average user, for about three years if treated properly, so really about the least expensive air you can get.

I did plenty to make mine more reliable as well.

How I am looking at this, $300 for YH plus a pocket change maybe $100 extra for spare parts readily available is a good value project compressor, and if brakes down we fix it in a half a day, or let it be one day with some coffee brakes and a six pack. I am not a person to sit in front of the TV, I feel better tossing things around in my garage or basement mans cave, and ..... furthest possible from Boss ;) she always trying to give me things to do that I don't enjoy much :) .

You have one of those also, Geeezz I thought I was the only one. Something I did not know when I first got married was after a while they think of there self as they

were your mother. You must ask them can I go here or there? Next, what time will you be back? Then what air gun toys can I buy? On,& on.

You need to take care of yourself. Looks like the boss needs to keep a closer eye on you?? ;^)

;( she is working from home two days a week, omg my head hurts ... good thing I had a best training years ago with my car GPS, I set the voice to a sexy Scandinavian girl,,,,she was telling me go "now you turn right" or left or where else and I was challenging here quiet often .... forcing here to "recalculate" :) :) :)

biohazardman....look like you not alone with leaking problem.

I rebuilt my YH back in Nov (I guess) and didn't need it until today.

First it started kicking out the 10A breaker, I managed that connecting the compressor to the washer plug (20A), drawing 17.5A consistent.

Started running it, smooth. Looking for possible leaks and found it. I never had a leak with the factory built YH but now looks like this my diy rebuilt is leaking from the gasket below the first stage cylinder head . So far it is building the pressure, I got it from 200 bar to 280 on my scba in 2x15 minutes run (cooling it now, will be back to top it up as much I can). Looks like the new piston rings doesn't seal yet, or maybe never will ???

YH leaking.1643044530.jpg

Also I noticed something new....I never saw this before that I shot down the compressor and the pressure still coming back from this hole. I thought that is only a oil tank de-gasser :).

So far less then an hour running time since rebuilt, maybe this back blow will disappear maybe not

Put a six or eight inch fan blowing on the original fan it will really cool the unit down quite a bit. Shouldn't be any pressure coming out of crankcase breather after it is off. Probly some blow-by from the first stage piston rings not sealing well yet maybe it will wear in but hard to say.

Both of mine are running well now although YH#1 gives a bit slower fill than YH#2. YH#1 got a new piston set and #2 only a rod so likely #1 needs some time to wear in the new rings to the old cylinders?

Edit;

Oh, and I doubled the gasket you had trouble with as the new ones were thinner than the old and I did not want the 2nd stage piston banging on the head like it did when I originally replaced it.

I got the itch to buy a digital unit that I have been fighting off. Not sure how much longer I can continue doing so. I'm probly OK so long as I keep spending the big $$$ on the duplex remodel but after that? ;^)

I wish you luck with your YH.

I got the itch to buy a digital unit that I have been fighting off. ...

I am also tinkering to get a second=backup compressor vs buying spare parts for YH.

Some of those dual head units looks soo good on pictures but I just can't justify spending more over the YH cost ;)

$550 CAD = 430 USD for YH (at my place) is a good value spread over 2-3 years.

I am refilling a 14 liter tank from 180 bars to 300 in 45 minutes total run time is kind a OK doing it every 2-3 weeks with YH, wondering the dual head units would cut it for same money?

By "duplex" and "dual head" are you referring to the Tuxing models? I've been researching different models in prep for buying one. Tuxing has their own site at https://www.tuxingcn.com, in addition to at least 3 AliExpress stores: "Official," "Specialty," and "Authorized." When I discovered that today, the Specialty store had a little lower price on one or two models, while the couple I checked were the same between the Official and Authorized. Amazon has also occasionally had different prices for the same model under different product numbers. Also, if you surf the web via a VPN, the Tuxing's web site may not load, as the Chinese government blocks a lot of VPNs. Since AliExpress loads fine on a VPN, that means that either their servers are not in China, and/or the government doesn't block VPNs to their site.

The note for the inlet filter on TXEDT032 is the unit comes with molecular sieve, which is useless as the input.

I would think that forty-five minutes would be a looong time to run the YH for sure even if you have the temperature stable. Speaking from experience though I really don't know what to expect from them once they no longer heat up.

I missed to explain in detail, 3x 15 minutes run time and cooling down in between runs, totalling 45 minutes run time. The Temp never reach 50C .... My recent rebuild was a result of me abusing the machine and literally I bake the rod, I promised myself I will take better care of the YH.
